Visited from NY with our 6 year old child AND 7 year old pit bull. We were staying in a dog friendly hotel, but our dog was having none of staying solo, so we had no choice but to look for a place to eat where we could eat outside and keep our pooch with us. The place was packed, but because the weather wasnt great no one was dining outdoors. We asked the host if we could be seated out doors with our dog, and he fetched the manager who accommodated us. In an instant, not only our table, but all of the outdoor tables were wiped clean and we had our drinks and an appetizer for our son in moments. I loved that I could order "a glass and a half" of wine from the reasonably priced wine list that had lots of selections. Once we got our meals. It started to rain. We thought it was a wash, but the manager moved our table under the main door under the awning (there was still room for people to exit). We never felt rushed or unwelcome because of our dog. Our food was fabulous. I ordered the salmon with brussels sprouts that was fantastic. I loved how it was plenty of food, but not loaded with heavy carbs. My husband had the meatloaf and said it was awesome. Son had the pizza for one, which was fresh and tasty. The staff kept checking on us despite being filled to the brim inside. As hipster as the crowd was, no hipster service here! A+ all the way. You wont be disappointed.

Really, really disappointed on my most recent visit. They were out of EVERYTHING - it kind of became funny, Id order something, theyd say they were out, Id order something else....you get the picture. Went through at least 5 rounds of that. Also, I ordered the guac because I wasnt super hungry, and I kid you not, they brought me about a half cup of guac, a half cup of salsa, and a decent sized pile of stale chips. Im sorry, but if youre going to list a dish as "Guacamole" on the menu and charge $6, you should probably serve more than half an avocados worth of it. I never, ever complain at restaurants, but seeing that teensy serving of guac, I did. The waitress, however, was awesome. Im pretty sure I left 20% because none of the problems were her fault, and she did a great job taking care of us. Too bad the rest of the dining experience wasnt as great as she was.

Commissary was a delight. Local food sourcing and sustainablity that not only is incorporated in their food, but in their business practice as well. Their sustainable values are on display next to the glass view into the kitchen. Our server unprompted asked if we had any allergies which is a good sign of their concern for patrons health. When asked about how they qualify their sustainability for fish our server didnt know, but jumped on the chance to find out from their chef to ensure my curiosity was fulfilled. Overall a great environment for a date, family and friends, or just drinks. Will definitly return here again and recommend it highly to anyone looking for delicious food or something reasonably priced and sourcing locally and sustainably.

I will absolutely give this place high marks! I had a full English breakfast today - by which I do mean eggs, rashers, bangers, beans& tomato confit, black pudding, mushrooms & rye. Was it good? Uh-yeah!!! Didnt you read what I just laid down? The blood sausage was impeccable and, as I understand, sourced from "Eatwell farms" (or something like that - its associated with "Pig" (another connected local restaurant)). I had difficulties exercising restraint, this I will admit. This was a party of 7 - and around the table, there was one other full English breakfast ordered - along with pancakes and omelettes (boring). I got the winner. Come to Commissary and get the proper English breakfast. Live a little...

Great bunch experience here. We had a reservation, but still had to wait a few minutes during a busy saturday brunch rush, but the bartender took care of us while we waited and the staff didnt mind our 2 yr old bouncing around in the corner. We were originally seated outside under the umbrellas, and even though it was busy, they had the foresight to hold some tables inside because it was about to rain. When it did start to pour, they moved us inside with no hassle, and were very accommodating with our 2 yr old. Food was great, I had the breakfast tacos, and the bartender knew what a greyhound was and made it for me at nearly half the price of most other brunch spots. Will definitely be back.

The food was good and the prices are what I expected. My rating fell due to service. It was busy but not overly crowded. There were at least a handful of empty tables. Once seated several servers walked past me but didnt stop at the table. I sat for about 8 minutes before anyone came over. Once my server came, she wasnt very friendly, she seemed put out to answer my questions, and she didnt check on me at all between when I ordered and when I received my check, which I had to flag her down to get after Id been done eating for about ten minutes. Ultimately, I probably wont ever go back. Unfortunate for such a DC mainstay.

Ive been here several times for brunch, and Im always satisfied, but its never really a WOW factor. Theyre good for groups if you call ahead and they have a dog friendly patio which is nice. The food itself is good, typical brunch fare. I will say the bacon is particularly delish. The only down side which is a huge obstacle in DC is their drinks are pricey. Also its a pretty long wait if you go for Sunday brunch, but thats not very unusual for DC since we love our brunches. Overall good place and I would say give it a shot if you want somewhere for a brunch with the pups!

The food was average at most, the service was pretty lackluster. Came on a Thursday morning when it wasnt very crowded at all and the service was pretty slow. Ordered a latte and it came lukewarm. Ordered the potato pancake with salmon and parts were good but honestly my toasted English muffin with butter was the highlight. The waiters were friendly, the ambience was nice and the music was good. Would probably prefer to come here again just for a beer at the bar with a friend, but probably better off getting something for breakfast at the Whole Foods across the street.

Had a problem with the person who greeted us at the door, actually he never did... we asked for a table for 2, and there were clearly tables available, but he instead made us wait. finally i went up to him to ask for a table, probably im not a guy and not pretty enough for him, asked me to wait with an attitude. The food was okay. Just the water cup filled with floating objects and the waiter was never around. The side of corn was an awkward mix of some fusion Mexican influenced with black beans, pepper and tomato. The fried fish taco is worth a try though.

Came here for Sunday brunch with three others. We had a BELT, breakfast taco, bagel, open-faced sourdough, french toast sticks and fresh juice of the day. Everything was good, except service can be lacking. My husband asked for his bagel to come with butter, but it still arrived out with cream cheese. He had to ask three separate times, before he got his butter. At that point, his bagel was cold. He was also charged full price of $4, for a regular bagel with butter. We especially loved the french toast sticks and would highly recommend that!
