GOOD FOR TAKE OUT ONLY: This restaurant serves good food, but the customer service is awful. Im not from the area, so maybe there are not many Thai restaurants in this area because I cannot fathom why this place is highly rated. Due to the customer service, I would never come here with friends or on a date. I do recommend this restaurant for takeout. Here is my experience: I came with a couple of friends to this restaurant around 8pm on a Saturday night in mid-January 2017. When we got there, there was ample parking available, and literally one other table of customers. It made us wonder, on a Saturday night, if we had made a mistake. I felt a tickle in my throat, so I opted for hot green tea and some hot soup. We had a male waiter, and whenever we asked about the dishes, he basically said he didnt know how anything really tasted because he just started. There was an Asian lady sweeping up (which makes for a really uncomfortable atmosphere while youre eating, because it makes it seem like she wants to close up soon), and she came near the table but stayed about 5 feet away, talking loudly at us, and asked us if everything is ok. I asked her what is the difference in size between a cup and a bowl for the soups, and she could not describe it well. I said I have a taste for a Thai tea, but I have a cold, so I didnt want it cold. Could they pop it in the microwave and give me a hot version of that. She was a bit confused about this request, but brought it out. When it got to the table, she hands it to me and proceeds to tell me that this is the last time they will do a hot Thai tea, because the chef had to stand at the microwave and watch the tea being made so it wouldnt spill. Thai tea is normally premade, and they just pour it in a glass. I was shocked that she is telling me all this WHILE GIVING ME MY TEA, and my friends and I were staring at this lady like she was just crazy. The hot version of Thai tea is amazing and delicious. Her attitude, however, made me not enjoy this tea. Additionally, the fact that someone could not put something in the microwave despite what they charge for a Thai tea blew me away. Finally, youve never seen me or my friends before, so why are you talking to us like were coming back and WARNING us not to order this again? You could just have said that IF we tried to order it AGAIN. It was strange. So, without a response from us, she went away and continued sweeping. 3 minutes later, without any instigation from us, from about 10 feet away, she loudly started talking about WHY she cannot offer hot Thai tea again. My dining partner was like, is this lady crazy. I tried to change the subject so we could actually enjoy our meal. When I got my hot pot of soup, they also brought tiny bowls and Asian soup spoons to eat with. The problem with the soup was there were these GIANT wedges of tomato in there, and those wedges could not FIT on the soup spoon. Additionally, I got shrimp in my soup, and the tails were left on. When youre eating a soup, does it make sense to have the tail on? I had to use my fingers in between eating this soup, and again, this is not really great when youre in a restaurant dining with others. Smaller vegetable pieces and shrimp with tails cut off would have been improvements on the soup. I would have told the restaurant lady this feedback directly, but I didnt want to have her defensively shouting across the restaurant at me. A gentleman in our group took the bill, and because he believes everyone should have a living wage, he tipped well. If that lady is reading this, here are a few tips: Dont start sweeping until 10 minutes before closing. When speaking to customers, go to the table and speak so only that table can hear you. Dont complain about going the extra mile with service when there are less than 10 customers in your entire restaurant on a Saturday night. I wont be coming back to this restaurant EVER, but hopefully there are a few good takeaways from this review to make this restaurant better.

Decor: 4/5 -Decent amount of seating and definitely not as busy on a weekday lunch -Lots of Thai decor and signs of their current food specials Service: 4/5 -standard table service. Server strangely placed our soups an arm lengths away. -food came out quick from the kitchen Food: 4/5 -Tom Yum Shrimp $5.95 came with about 3 shrimps. The broth was the sweetest Ive ever had. Being a sweet tooth, this was a bit too sweet for me. I also got this in mild and it definitely was mild (3/5) -Famous Pad Thai Beef $10.95 is enough to feed two. The beef dish came with tofu cubes. Protein wasnt as generous as other places. Flavor was on point. (4/5) -Thai Iced Tea $2.50 is as standard as Thai Iced Teas go. Not too sweet, it was just right. Would recommend (5/5) I would return to try their soft shell crab entrees.

Food: 4 Decor: 3 Service: 4 3.5 stars. As one of my bookmarks in Dallas, I finally decided to drop by here for dinner. 1. Pineapple curry with chicken (mild), 10 After perusing through some of the reviews, I opted for this. Their mild is still reasonably spicy, so keep that in mind if you cant handle spicy food. Portions were smaller than the last Thai restaurant I went to, but there was plenty of pineapple and the ingredients tasted fresh. 2. FBI (Fried Banana with Coconut Ice Cream), 6 Okay, but wouldnt order it again. Just wasnt my cup of tea. It was also a bit hard to eat this with just a spoon. They do have quite a few choices on their menu, many of which sound quite good, so Im sure Ill drop by again in the near future. Total was around $20 after tax/tip.

Stopped in for lunch at around noon and the place was near full occupancy so I knew it had to be good. I went for the lunch special Panang curry with chicken, 5 spicy, and steamed rice. The soup of the day was Hot & Sour and it was tasty. Not a fan of tofu in soup but it did not hinder the experience in any way. The curry had an excellent flavor to it along with a very generous amount of chicken. The crispy spring roll they put on the plate was a little over-fried to my liking, maybe it was just that batch, but still had good flavor to it. Service was great as well. I will definitely be going back to Orchid Thai

Fabulous little local restaurant--the kind that locals know and love but doesnt ever make the big review sites. The food is exceptional and nicely presented, the decor changes with the season, and prices are moderate. Ive never had anything I didnt like. Our favorite is the Ginger Fish Filet (fried). They can also cater to milder palates, so we bring the kids who go for the corn patties and clear noodle soup, along with B.O. flat noodles. (Its completely MSG-free, which I adore because Ive had too many MSG headaches at places that dont add MSG, but use commercial sauces.) BYOB.

HIDDEN GEM! Not only is the food absolutely amazing (each dinner comes with a real flower on the plate!), but atmosphere is just so cool and hip. The walls are covered with huge paintings and there are tiny Christmas lights throughout the dining room that create a romantic ambiance. I definitely dont feel like Im in Irving when Im at Bangkok Orchid. There is a great selection of food (my favorite is pineapple fried rice with tofu and vegetables) and prices are more than reasonable. The service is always great, too. I cant say enough great things about this restaurant.
