Damn shame I used to like this place. They had RAW Salmon in 6 containers out in warm temperature for over 2 hours and right above it was a sign that said "Our fish is kept at 42 degrees for freshness". Well they didnt follow their own sign. They were also uncovered and there were flies around landing in food. I was sitting at the bar and told one of the sushi chefs a fly landed on the food and even pointed at it. He didnt do anything but say "Oh ok". They also had a large amount of cooked tempura food piled on top of each other in different bowls that looked like it had been there for days and also some on top of ripped aluminum foil, next to the sushi chefs drinks, cups they were taking toppings out of and putting on food. Damn shame this place has gotten nasty. With that many employees you would think they would keep the restaurant clean. The sad part is the Manager/Owner is right there next to all of it and didnt do anything. The place wasnt even packed at 4pm and the wait staff was standing around gossiping and the service wasnt like it use to be. Its gone down hill. Even more odd is that the good reviews seem to be of people not really opening their eyes and see all the old food just sitting out behind the sushi chefs. I was going their a few times a week and thought it was an isolated issue but obviously not when seeing the same thing so many times. WHAT A SHAME!!! MAYBE THEY WILL WAKE UP AND CLEAN THE PLACE AND STORE FISH CORRECTLY!

**READ FOR WARNING** I have been going to Oiishis for several years now and it has always been the best Sushi restaurant Ive been to. They have pretty reasonably priced food and their wait staff is amazing. They are all really nice and positive and have always been like that. Things to consider: 1. Parking is tight. There are a few spots in front of the restaurant and a small lot beside the restaurant that has its own driveway. 2. Its usually packed so plan ahead and come early. They open at 11am. By 12 there is hardly any place to park, let alone sit in the restaurant without a delay. 3. If you have a shellfish allergy be careful. I developed one two years ago and it of course seriously limited what I could eat there. I have had the Chicken Tempura Rolls regularly for the past year and a half and it has always been amazing. **However, yesterday after I ate the Chicken Tempura Rolls I immediately went into anaphylactic shock. I guess they fried the chicken in the same oil as shrimp.** So... As much as I love Oishiis I probably will never go back. The risk is too great at this point. If you dont have anything like this to worry about then I promise you, youll love this place and come back for more.

I was introduced to Oishii by a friend of mine from Japan. Its a nice family run business with good prices and amazing happy hour deals. The sushi here is excellent! Definitely my favorite place for sushi in Houston. The Houston roll is great for those who would like more american tastes and the New Orleans roll is full of flavors. Their fries are pretty good, and they serve sashimi right. The parking and capacity of Oishii is the only negative things about Oishii. The parking lot is extremely small for such a great restaurant which is almost always near its limit in seating patrons. There is an additional parking lot next door but it is also small and getting out of the parking lot is a hassle. If you are trying to seat more than 6 people, I strongly advise that you call ahead. If you dont there will be a long wait for your table. My favorite Japanese place in Houston. Very authentic! :D

This is easily my favorite spot for sushi in Houston. I have very simple tastes for sushi. I love salmon and escolar sashimi (I could eat them all day). This place has great sushi at a very great price. Their happy hour is also nice as well with buy one appetizer and get another free. One issue Ive always had is that service is very slow. The waiters often are not paying attention and just standing around, rather than taking orders or bringing by the check. This extremely slow service knocks this would-be-five-star review to four. One more thing to consider is that this is definitely not a place that will blow your mind and you probably wont walk out thinking that it was the best sushi of your life. The main appeal to me is that it is pretty good despite being vastly less expensive than some other places that are only marginally better.

Wow! This place was my best sushi experience ever! It was my wifes birthday and she wanted sushi so I searched around for a new place to go. We have a toddler and only one income so we dont make it out often so anytime we do its a big deal to us and a bad experience at a restaurant robs us of one of our precious few outings. We had even tried to come here before but it was for lunch and we were early so the parking lot was empty except for a haggard car and occupant at the convenience store next door and it looked shady so we split. Our mistake. This place is a dive in all the best ways. If youre looking for a too expensive decor and house music this isnt the place for you. If youre looking for phenomenal Japanese food and service at reasonable prices then this is the place. Well be back again and again!

We were in Houston for the summer and on a budget. So we were in desperate need for some good happy hour Sushi specials! We chanced on Oishii and honestly I was surprised it took me that long to find it in the list of the best Sushi places in Houston. Needless to say it became an absolute favorite for us. For $30, you can easily have multiple beers AND a ton of sushi. We would order only the sushi/sashimi and not the specialty rolls because the fish was so fresh and made it worth it. I was not the biggest fan of their specialty rolls, because I have had so much better. But for the price and the freshness of the rolls, this place is a must during Happy Hour. Its very cheap even otherwise. But do keep in mind, no matter when you show up, there will probably always be a wait. Worth the money and the wait.

Ive tried many sushi places, and this Ive is the cheapest one with sushi comparable to that of other much pricier restaurants. Theres a reason the line can be long and the place is popular. Also, I highly recommend the ika tempura. So why 4 stars? They serve Escolar (Also someones called fatty tuna among other names). This fish is not actually edible as it contains an indigestible (by humans and most other mammels) oil in its whole body that is also mildly toxic, which will essentially give you bathroom issues later if you eat it. Many sushi places serve it since its a cheap fish since America is one of the few nations that doesnt ban it. No restaurant that serves that fish will ever get 5 starts from me, even if everything else is perfect.

4 year customer here. considering other sushi spots ive been to, this is by far the best for the price. ive never been during happy hour so i cant take advantage of price cuts but im a serious diner so i dont mind paying for quality. parking sucks and so does the line. when i do go im not in a hurry so i dont mind waiting. but it does pay to make reservations if you dont want to wait. for those of you who dont know what good fish taste like, its almost like water. other than the unagi(eel), all the sushi taste like this. very good thing. as busy as this place stays and considering their hours of service, always expect a long wait for food. stay away from the appetizers. just a waste of space for hot sake and sushi :) trust me, im a fatboy
