RACIAL PROFILING OF AFRICAN-AMERICAN WOMEN: ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!! IT IS 2017 AND AFRICAN AMERICAN WOMEN ARE STILL BEING NEGATIVELY PROFILED IN ESTABLISHMENTS IN HOUSTON!!! IF YOU ARE AFRICAN-AMERICAN OR A PERSON OF COLOR OR A WELL DRESSED WOMAN WHO GOES OUT ALONE DO NOT GO TO LE COLONIAL RESTAURANT. THEY WILL PROFILE YOU NEGATIVELY!!! LE COLONIAL CASE: On July 12, 2017 between 10pm and 11pm, I entered the door of the Le Colonial Restaurant. I am an African-American Jewish woman who was immediately approached by a white male who stated “I am the manager and we do not serve prostitutes here." I stated "Well thats not a problem because I am not a prostitute." He continued by saying "I know who you are" and refused me entry into the restaurant. I told him that he just made a huge mistake and I left. This is clearly a case of racism, profiling, and defamation that needs to be addressed. I called Le Colonial Restaurant today [7/13/2017] and spoke to a Martin Thiese, Director of Operations, to find out the name of the manager from last night. He stated that a customer must have impersonated a manager and made that statement. He clearly did not take my situation seriously. As a matter of fact, he could have been the manager on duty last night. He then asked for a description of the manager and I told him that he was a tall white male. I also told him to look at the footage from any video surveillance to see who the manager was. I then called the River Oaks District Office to inform them about this situation today since Le Colonial is on their property. I spoke with Kristina Okport who asked me what did Le Colonial offer to remedy the situation. I told her that Martin Thiese stated that he would investigate the matter and that was it. She took my information and stated she would forward this to her managers for further review. I want THE ACLU OF TEXAS to investigate this case because I was profiled, defamed, and discriminated against based on being an African-American woman who is well-dressed, alone, attending an Upscale majority white establishment in River Oaks District. No one regardless of race, religion, gender, nationality, etc. should go through what I experienced. I am an educated, articulate individual who was degraded, defamed, insulted, and denied entry into Le Colonial Restaurant of the River Oaks District!!! And that is not right and needs to be addressed. Houston maybe diverse, but there are still establishments that incorrectly profile, label and treat people differently because of the color of their skin. If nothing is done about this situation, then Houston is saying that being treated this way is acceptable and encourages its continuance. It is time to address the elephant in the room.

I agree with the other folks that food is just ok, nothing special to rave about (5 of us in the group, we all eat Vietnamese food at least once a week, one ladys husband is a Vietnamese. We have a lot of Vietnamese food experience!!). Vietnamese restaurants in Chinatown have equally tasty and authentic dishes. Green papaya salad was not freshly made, nothing was crispy, the rice stick on top was hard and chewy like rubber. I was there last night for dinner, our round table was right next to the beverage corner, so there was a lot of traffic behind our chairs. Everyones chair was being bumped at every 5 minutes. The restaurant is very pretty which we enjoy, but very crowded and noisy. Its hard to hear your friends talking even though we are on a small round table. Prime location, elegant and beautiful interior decoration, average food quality, high price (big portion goes to rent)! Will not go back in a while!

Dont believe the hype. Mediocre interpretations of Viet food, though there are some good dishes. The rice we were served was a brick of rice that had obviously sat for a while--any dive cafe would have thrown that rice away or just made it right. Maybe we got the wrong section or something, but it took almost 30 minutes from when we got there to when we got a drink...You know, you get seated and then 4 minutes later someone brings you water, then another 5 minutes you get a drink menu, then 8 minutes after that you give your drink order, then 10 awkward minutes later, at nearly 9pm, you get your drink. This place is all glitter with no substance. But hey, if it is important to be seen around the right people, then go eat the chewy ribs here.

This place is located in River Oaks District When you come in from Westhimer Rd its sitting to the right. Garage (free), metered, and valet parking is available. So when you walk in, the host stand is to the right. And the stairwell is to the left. That leads up to the bar and restrooms. The ambiance is high end France. It absolutely stunning. I love the decor here. Its a lot of plants and trees and dim lighting. They also have outdoor seating as well. This particular evening was too hot to sit out. The food was just okay. I posted photos I dont remember what the things were called. Lol Would I return? Maybe for appetizers and cocktails or something like that.

I would recommend customers wait till they get it down. I however will wait forever before I return. We Went for dinner and waited 1 1/2 hours and never got our dinner. The waiter offered to give us a drink. I said dont want a drink, I want my dinner. Different waiters and even the manager promised multiple times that dinner was coming. Dinner never came. We ended up leaving and went to Ambassador Chinese Restaurant on Richmond. Told the owner Wendy that we were hungry and they got dinner served rapidly and it was great as always.

The food is just ok, nothing special. You can get better quality food for half the price elsewhere. The service did not meet my expectations since they want you to leave the place as soon as you finish your meal. The waiter brought the check without being asked to do so and kept returning to the table with a rude attitude every 2 minutes wanting to take my credit card. We were chatting at the table after dinner but due to that situation we felt uncomfortable and left. I will not come back to this place again.

Ame el lugar desde el comienzo, para un vegetariano o vegano es una opción fantástica, todo es súper rico y abundante. La atención es excelente y ambiente cautivador y etnico. Volvería!

The ambiance at River Oaks itself is enough to pull you in. Sit outside on the patio and enjoy the opulence. Once you order though... nothing to special. I paid $24 for chicken/basil chili that I swear I could get for $12 somewhere else. It was tasty but "Zagat" rated? Nothing to rave about and an entree and glass of vino cost me $40. Thank god for corporate credit card!

Top pick for Houston. We are upstairs, outside on a patio. The weather was perfect, the music sublime--we thought we were listening to a recording of the Gipsy Kings at first then realized it was a band--and the service was impeccable. Loved this place. Delicious food. We had a couple of spring rolls, coconut chicken soup, whole salmon and chocolate mousse. Get some.
