City Search 2013 said this was the best seafood in the city, so I went there. I, however, was disappointed in the food. Nevertheless, their service was absolutely incredible! They went to any length to make sure we were well attended to, any question answered, and even gave us generous samples of items we hadnt tried before. Incredible service. The wife ordered campechana de mariscos (sort of like ceviche but with crab and shrimp) and thought it was excellent: fresh and full of flavor. She also ordered the stuffed whole flounder with a cream sauce and crispy fried onion strings along with the seafood rice. She thought it was a pretty good piece of fish and fresh, but nothing absolutely spectacular. The garlic bread that accompanies the meal was extremely tasty with generous butter and fresh garlic on the well-toasted bread. I ordered the grilled red snapper. To me, all I tasted was the char from the grilling. In very few bites did I taste any other flavor. The red beans and rice were fine, but Ive had far better. Further, I learned that they marinate all the fish in the same marinade and either fry them or grill them. I dont think thats the best way to prepare seafood. Each filet needs a different touch or technique and especially a variety of seasonings and sauces. Not a fan of that, to say the least. Next came dessert which is made by a commissary. I should have refrained from ordering then and there; however, I got the pecan pie and bread pudding. Both were subpar especially relative to this being a higher end restaurant. I expect desserts made from scratch. In short, while Goode Seafood Co. is fairly good, it is not excellent when it comes to seafood. This is a shame since its so close to the coast and has a high reputation. However, Wildfish in San Antonio is far better.

I love this place. Ive been going here since it was opened... whenever that was. The shrimp campechana is a must have. I was diagnosed with multiple food allergies about a year ago, but I went here with my family recently, and the waiter was very accomodating. I have a soy allergy, so that can be difficult to negotiate, but they did a great job and I felt great afterwards. Their oysters rockefeller isnt the best - it was a bit rich for my taste (too much salt and too huge a plop of hollaindaise.. and I love hollandaise. I tend to order this appetizer in restaurants a lot). I wouldnt go there for that, but in general their oysters are wonderfully fresh and their food is always tasty and well-priced. Id reccomend the gumbo, baked crab, and shrimp campechana. (Ive only eaten the shrimp campechana post-allergies). My mother makes fabulous gumbo, and this is the only restaurant where I would get gumbo from. Its more creole than cajun style. My family has been coming here for random occasions for years, and we always leave full, pleased, and happy.

Apparently Goode Company is an institution in Houston, well their BBQ at least. I came here with family to try out their seafood and thought that overall it was decent, but nothing to warrant the hype of the name. The portions here are Texan-sized and our waiter was very friendly and chatty. Its nice that they give us a sample of their ceviche as a complimentary starter and it appeared to work as we ordered some more for our meal. Their flounder was of course a behemoth of a meal so only order it if youve got the appetite to match. I ordered their fried platter and while I enjoyed the variety that came on the plate, it was difficult to taste the different seafood due to the thick heavy breading. Id say this is a good place to go for quality seafood, but I wouldnt expect the stars in terms of flavor.

I was excited after reading many of the 5-star reviews and had high expectations. Unfortunately my dinner companion and I were extremely disappointed. I ordered the yellow tuna cooked medium. Alas the kitchen delivered a nice size piece of fish that appeared to be cooked well but was cooked well short of medium and was barely warm at the center. My dinner companion ordered the crab cakes and stated that it tasted like school lunch quality and both dense and doughy. She also said that it was her worst meal in a long time and that she had had a jack in the box meal for lunch. Our waiter did not ask us how our meal was after it was served so there was no opportunity to express our disappointment. Rest assured we will not be returning nor will we be recommending this establishment to our friends.

This is a photo of a seafood tamale wrapped in a banana leaf at Goode Co Seafood. It was a novelty for me, and I recommend it as an appetizer if you never tried one, although I think I would prefer pork tamales. The presentation alone deserves five stars. Chowder not as good as Legals, but Legals doesnt operate in Texas yet; chowder was good enough. The main dish, crab cakes, was the highlight and Im glad I ordered it. Delicious. Service was good. The bill was high, but at least we ate quality, tasty food. The tables were spaced adequately from one another, so its a decent venue for light business discussion. The atmosphere was positively subdued, not noisy, hyped and cheapened. Good experience.

Ive worked in and been around the hospitality industry my whole life. Managed a restaurant in the French Quarter, New Orleans. I ordered take home, picked it up, got home and 20 minutes later got a call that they gave me someone elses order. Apologized but asked me to bring the other food back when I came back to get MY ORDER, and offered me a piece of pie for the mistake. I used that in gas to go drive there twice?!! The food may be tasty but at $62 and one of two to go orders... just a sign of bad management. Will not eat there again. Hire competent people or bad service can negate good food. Major pain on a rainy night. They handled it poorly, reflection of management and hiring practice.

Although the decor and overall atmosphere were nice, they in no way made up for the poorly prepared and painfully uninspired food. I ordered the seafood kabob which the waiter described as grilled shrimp, salmon, yellowfin tuna, and catfish. Unfortunately, besides two shrimp, the rest of the dish was just soggy grilled catfish. My fiancee ordered the trout almondine which sounded fantastic. Sadly, her dish was a poor excuse for trout almondine. Instead, it was essentially a grilled trout fillet with a bunch of uncooked and unseasoned almonds on top. Houston has several very nice seafood restaurants. Unfortunately, Goode Co Seafood Restaurant is not one of them.

We ordered the shrimp gumbo, fried green tomatoes, and the fried catfish with shrimp dinner. The gumbo was OK, but did not come with any real amount of rice as traditional gumbo should. The fried green tomatoes were awful! The fried catfish was disgusting and I am not sure what type of fish it really was!! The fried shrimp actually tasted great, but that one thing doesnt make up for the rest. Besides all of this the waiter was fantastic, probably the best service I have had in Houston in years. Overall, I can not recommend this restaurant and I will never eat there again. It is way too expensive to be serving poorly prepared food.
