I dont know of another place in Houston with quite the comparable style of European cuisine. Chef Johann Schuster was born in Transylvania, Romania, and his wife is from Germany, so there are many different European influences in their offerings. My favorite time to go is lunch, and on Mondays for their lunch special of Vienna-style meatloaf with pan fried quail egg, sautéed green beans & mashed potatoes. Their daily lunch special is just $9.99, with soup and a main course. They also offer a Business Lunch special for $15.50, consisting of a salad, main course and dessert.

There are some seriously respectable skills in this kitchen. Its kind of old-fashioned but you can tell they know what theyre doing. I had some beautiful little blinis with caviar, seared foie gras, a delightful beef consomme with herb pancakes and the weiner schnitzel (a safe boring choice but very well executed nonetheless). The service was a bit slow but there was a large (30+) Xmas party in the room at the same time so Ill give them a pass this time. One of the better meals higher end meals Ive had in Houston, if not the best.

We took our neighbor today. Yes on Christmas day. The duck was excellent, lobster bisque some of the best ever. Service was fantastic. Thank you to all at Charivari Restaurant for helping make our Christmas a Christmas to remember with such excellent food. We were all very full when we left, and two of us are Texas size. Food portions were plenty. Even had some left overs to bring home.Service was friendly and fast, and we were not rushed out after we finished our meal.

By far the best dinner in Houston (that weve tried so far)! Formal, yet casual I spends months fantasizing about the wild boar served each fall/winter season. (Update: wild boar chop just added to the permanent menu!!) This is one of those places where the chef creates a new menu every few weeks and youll spend the entire meal with your eyes closed as your tongue takes you on an incredible journey. This is my happy place for sure!

Delicious dinner on Christmas Day. We have had dinner at Charivari each Christmas Eve or Christmas Day for the past few years, and we always enjoy our experience. Despite the challenges of serving a busy dining room on a holiday, the hardworking staff always delivers a great meal. In fact, the fish we have at Charivari is among the best in Houston -- freshness, temperature and taste are just right! Highly recommend.

A French restaurant in midtown with very upscale service. The food is fantastic. We went twice during restaurant weeks. The first time I had the hangar steak. It was so well cooked and tender. The second time I had the chicken dish. Moist and tender is an understatement. The chef is friendly and enjoys talking with his guests. I recommend this restaurant for any time. You wont be disappointed.

This place is the best resaurant in houston. It has great healthy and fresh foods, a beautiful setting, has great service, kid friendly, and the owners are very passionate about what they do. They are fast on their feet and we got our food very fast. Especially great for buisness lunches. The best food ever. Will definitely be coming back!!!

Service was super slow and the food was okay. We were a big party, but it was definitely not supposed to take just under 3.5 hours. There was ONE waitress servicing 3 big parties. It was a disaster. Also, I ordered a chocolate pana cotta and instead I got chocolate pudding. So disappointing. Definitely not coming here again.

We love Chef Johan and all the amazing food and service at Charivari. We only go once or twice a year because its so special and amazing that we dont want it to become a mainstream experience (which it isnt). We love the European experience there and appreciate all the authentic Euro dishes. This place makes us very happy.

Charivari definitely adds culture to Houston. It has a nice, magnetic atmosphere. The manager/ owner was a delight. The food was outstanding, taste was magnificent. The portion size is smaller than what most are used to in Texas, but by no means did I leave feeling hungry. I was actually surprised at how stuffed I was.

Saturday night the place was empty, should of been my first clue. The food and ambience was confusing. The food was a hodgepodge of ingredients put together and the theme of the menu made no sense. The ambience with the dated decor had nothing to offer. Disappointing place.

"This is a somewhat tricky restaurant to rate. Good food based on very good quality ingredients, well prepared...but definitely lacking the magic I associate with a rating of 28 or higher. I would highly recommend it as a good meal and a good value but I """

The owner of this restaurant assaulted me because I was walking out of his business to slow, after video surveillance showed he assaulted me the owner was charged with Class A Assault and taken to jail. Pitiful owners who are filled with anger.

This restaurant is my go-to for business meetings. The food is outstanding and Chef Johann has mountains of knowledge when it comes to food and ingredients. If you have an opportunity, you should ask him to tell you the story behind your meal.

YES. Is the answer to whether or not you should eat here. We each ordered four different things plus a couple appetizers and everything was crazy good. I even liked the snails. Im not a snails sort of person, but I want to eat more of those.

Chef Johann has impeccable taste, and all the dishes are incredible. The wine selection is hand picked and goes incredible with almost every dish they have, just be sure to ask what is recommended with each dish. I cannot wait to come back.

The food has been excellent I had the shrimp scampi. The server has been so so. The kitchen seemed very slow and resulted in us getting a few extra fillers. Over all though I would come back. Good food abd a nice quiet atmosphere .

Slow service. Saturday night but still it shouldnt take 1 hr 45 min. to get an entree. Manager was unresponsive when we complained about the slow service. Response was, "Oh, well." Food was fair. We wont be coming back.

Excellent food and ambiance for my wife and I on our date night. The waiters were great and very helpful in answering questions about the menu. We had a great time and look forward to coming back again sometime.

Owners are awesome and very accommodating. Food is upscale German, but their traditional German dishes are great! We will be back! Next time we will call ahead and have them prepare some plum dumplings for us!

This remains my favorite restaurant in Houston proper. The food is always top notch. The atmosphere is quiet and perfect for dates. I love the chef, he always makes sure that youre very well taken care of.

The food and service were excellent, and both the chef/owner and his wife personally visited our table on several occasions to ensure that everything was going wonderfully. I will surely be going back
