I love this place so much I dont even consider it a restaurant. To me it is a haven. A place where they serve my favorite foods, decorate to my taste, and never fail to surprise me with something new. They have every amenity I could ever ask for from the chew-able ice to the wi-fi,the excellent music to food network on the tv, I feel like home when I am here. Then there is the food. The biscuits and gravy are to die for. As a southern woman who prides my self on my cooking, I struggle to find gravy that I cant out-do. Now, I will never make that claim again. For lunch you cant go wrong with the jalapeño soup and any of the tacos(Ive had shrimp and pico, tilapia and spinach, and fried shrimp w/tabasco butter.) Finish up with a cupcake or cookie. Im particularly infatuated with the pecan cupcake, but the red velvet does the job nicely as well. The only negative thing about any trip to 5th Street is the parking. You might have to park down a bit and walk a block. However, I promise it is worth it. Do yourself and your friends a favor, just try this darling cafe. The staff is top notch and youll never leave disappointed.

They describe their location as "tucked away just south of Main Street" and thats very apt. The place looks to be a converted home at the corner of 5th and Ash. The dividing line between a residential and downtown business districts. It seems quaint, even when its at peak occupancy, which is frequent. This is really good food, usually with a slight twist that makes the experience unique. One thing is for sure, the owners love breakfast. I can hardly do justice to the offerings. They have everything from classic cheddar grits or biscuits and gravy to a Cajun Crawfish scramble or Captain Crunch French toast. And, of course, an a la carte menu. They also offer salads, some pasta and a large selection of sandwiches that are excellent. Last time I visited, they had introduced an "After 4:00" menu that offered larger dinner plates. Since this isnt on their website, I dont know if this was a permanent or limited time addition, but if you can still get it, try the chicken fried steak!

We love trying new places and we check reveiws before we go so we knew we could expect a wait, and thats okay. But damn, it was hot and crowded and plenty of tables that were empty but dirty. After waiting probably 20 minutes, just to get to the counter to order, we sat down and waited another 10-15 for our food. Well, they forgot my boyfriends order and my was burnt and cold. We had to go find our own condiments and silverware, which was scarce. We decided this was the first time we tried a new breakfast place that failed miserably. If only someone who worked there wouldve stopped by our table at any point, we could have explained our grievances instead of having to leave this review. Oh well, hopefully itll help someone else out and save them the $$$ of cold, burnt food. Oh! And their bathrooms were covered in toilet paper, smelled like urine and the toilet was clogged/overflowing.

Food has always been good... customer service, facility, policies seriously lacking.. 5th Street Café has become arrogant with their success... which is primarily based on the food. That success has lead to poor customer service and policies. I came in to the café with a party of 6. Some of which were young children. The line to order was already running out the door. Rather than clog up the line with six people standing in line... we had the family go sit at a table while I went to make a order. We were told we could not sit at a table until after we had placed an order... BOTTOM LINE... Great food, too small, HORRIBLE POLICIES AND CUSTOMER SERVICE. THEY DONT NEED YOUR BUSINESS. THEIR ATTITUDE IS YES, NO, OR NEXT. You are just another number at this place. They are very comfortable that they have plenty of business.

The inside was hot and crowded when we got here. They did not have a good layout for people waiting in like. I ordered the Country Biscuit Breakfast and was very disappointed. The eggs were the only part of the meal that had any gravy on them, so the biscuits were just dry. Most of the coffee pots were empty, and it took a ridiculous amount of time to get the one I asked for refilled. Several of the coffee flavors were very watered down as well. The silverware and napkins were also very low, and not refilled. We decided to sit outside since it was loud and crowded inside, and the table was so dirty that wiping it with a dry napkin left the napkin covered in dirt. I have been here before and been pleased with the food, service, and atmosphere, but I will not be returning anytime in the near future.

Horrible service worst experience i have ever had in a restaurant they need to get their act together and figure out a much better system in bringing out the food, ordered the cajun scramble, biscuits and gravy, cheddar cheese grits and captain crunch french toast. I got the scramble and biscuits. I waited until my food got cold to see if my wife would get her half since the guy said we will bring out the other two soon. After it was cold i told my wife to eat some of my food so i didnt have to eat while she sat there. She never got her food and i never got to finish mine since while was speaking to the manager i got up to get coffee and when i got back my food was gone. She ate half my food and i lost about a third of mine for getting more coffee. Sad sad story but true story

Normally very good, but our last visit our order got completely skipped over and we were waiting for over 30 minutes just thought they were busy. Did bring out our order but it was the wrong food. Ordered 2 of the country biscuits and gravy with eggs and potatoes and just got biscuits and gravy, but we were just happy to have food at that point and it was good but still not what we ordered. The person at the register offered a dessert for the trouble and got a brownie with marshmallows on top and it was gross if I paid for it Id ask for my money back. Chalking it up to an off morning for the because Ive had good experiences here but they can get overwhelmed during busy times and have trouble recovering?

My family and I ate breakfast here last weekend. The food was very good, although I agree that the kids menu prices are a bit high. There was an extremely long wait for the food, but it was a lively atmosphere and we enjoyed it. We also noticed that there arent many tables and many people left not wanting to wait for one so they are losing business there. We stopped and got a cinnamon roll, cookie and red velvet cupcake on our way out the door for special treats later and the cinnamon roll and cookie were average, but the red velvet cupcake was unbelievable! And it was only $2 versus the Cupcakery and Dimples prices!
