Very disappointed with my food here today. Id love to go in depth, but Ill just give the bullet points: Iced tea is excellent Coleslaw is excellent French bread is excellent The "bbq" shrimp is essentially a roux made entirely of black pepper and butter, and is so spicy its unpleasant -and with 5 small shrimp, its quite a pricey dish for $14.50. The gumbo - MAN, I wanted to like it - is just poorly seasoned. The base of the gumbo is tasty, but the seafood inside is gummy and bland - except for the overpowering "fishy" taste that lingers on the palate. The hush puppies, which are my favorite staple of southern creole cooking, here were just grease-soaked sponges. There was a hint of good flavor, and I could tell that if the frying had been executed just slightly better, they would have been delicious. My sandwiches - 3 mini portions of the fried shrimp, fried oysters, and crab - left very much to be desired. These sample portions of the larger plates, were more bread than substance, and Im talking the straight-out-of-the-package, slightly chilled mini hamburger buns you use for an impromptu kids birthday party. Overall, I think this place has a quaint and friendly atmosphere, but desperately needs an update to some outdated menu items. Give it a try, support this local business, and decide for yourself.

Disgusting. Went on Friday night. I was so friendly to my server. We ordered the spicy shrimp dip and hush puppies. The server brought out the dip but didnt give us anything to dip it with! So we assumed we had to use the saltines on the table. It tasted like flavored mayonnaise. Im sure if we actually ordered entrees the quality of the food would have been better. My issue with this place was the servers attitude. I asked for my boyfriend and my portion of the tab and he looked at us and went "I didnt know you wanted separate checks." Then my boyfriend asked if we could pay with a separate credit card and he goes "Well youre going to have to calculate it yourself." Seriously???????? I am a server and I wouldnt dare speak to a customer in that manor. A simple "Im sorry, restaurant policy is no separate checks." Oh and when we tried to "calculate it ourselves." None of the prices were listed on the check. If youre gonna be that lazy, at least bring us a menu with the prices listed so we can do your job for you.

S&D is a consistently good experience. Ive been dining there for over 15 years. I personally enjoy their broiled red snapper. My friends like being able to make their own cocktail sauce from the ingredients on the table. The menu is simple, mostly seafood and a hamburger option. I like that it is in a historic building, but its somewhat difficult to see the old charm since their lovely renovation has taken place. The staff and servers are attentive and efficient. I give it 3 stars due to the fact that their food is good, but not great, their prices are a bit expensive, their staff is a little older, and the atmosphere is staid. However, their lemon pie is to die for.

Well I am a bit if a restaurant fanatic and have tried many great expensive places that are well WORTH the money. The user that deemed this place as an over-priced Long John Silvers, hit the nail on the head. What the he'll is it with these "I'm fabulous because I pay way too much" Uptown restaurants? If the food/decor were to stack up to the price tag, that's one thing but this place doesn't. 20 bucks for a dozen fried oysters? Seriously? Absurd. Typical Uptown price gouge. Thats sad.

Without question the best shrimp Ive ever had, fried or broiled. Also check out their coleslaw (theirs is the only coleslaw that I like), shrimp dip, and oysters. Waitstaff is always prompt, professional, and courteous. If I had any complaints at all I would say that the main dinning area up front can get pretty loud when it is busy. Ask for the back room by the bar or the outside patio if its not too hot outside.

Old-school ambiance and amazing gulf oysters. Had a great night here with a group of friends. We sat on the lovely back patio and put away probably six dozen oysters on the half shell with several carafes of the house Pinot Grigio and a few orders of fried things to share. The oysters are on the large side, but mild, meaty, and very fresh. Even the oyster doubters in the group enjoyed them. The service was impeccable.

Got the fish sandwich (grouper)- assumed it wouldnt be fried, my mistake for not asking. Was pretty marginal for a $13 sandwich, tiny thin strips of grouper, deep fried. Lot more bread than fish, may be the point with a New Orleans style Po boy but I feel like its a very poor value and wasnt that good (felt more like that fried catfish place down the street). Setting and ambience are nice though.

This place is a Dallas classic, and I cant remember a time when S&D wasnt here! Nothing about this place has ever changed, from its modest interior to the staffs bow tie clad uniforms. The food here is what makes it stand out, as it is excellent. Their seafood is always fresh, but their burger is one of the best in town. Overall, S&D is a great place, and I highly recommend checking it out.

Best fried shrimp and oysters on the planet for the past 40 years! ... Make that 41! Ive been eating here since I was 10 years old and have frequented the best seafood restaurants from coast to coast. I dont know how S&D manages to consistently create the best tasting seafood anywhere in landlocked Dallas, but they do! If I dont make it in at least twice a month, I go into withdrawals!

S&D has the best oysters in the DFW area! However, theyve gone up in price and at $14+ per dozen now theyre starting to price themselves out of my budget. Youll never have to wait on them, though. The rest of the menu is fairly solid and surely simple. I once tried the shrimp salad and it was not worth it.

Just average fried seafood here. My fried snapper was acceptable but not seasoned particularly well. My french fries were cold and mushy, and the hush puppies were Sysco frozen pre-prepared items. Perhaps Dallas peeps are impressed with S & D but as a New Orleans native I was disappointed.

S & D is by far the BEST place to get fresh oysters!!!! the hand-made table-side cocktail sauce is AMAZING!!! yes, they are busy, but once you sit down at your table, youre taken care of......dont forget, if a place is NOT busy, you probably shouldnt eat there. ❤❤❤ S & D Oyster Company

Perhaps not for everybody, but perfect in every way. Limited, but consistently good menu (shrimp dip, $4 hamburger, and lemon meringue pie are good bets), reliably classy waitstaff, great outdoor dining in the back ... and a front dining room that hasnt changed in 40 years.

What a wonderful place. My waiter was the epitome of a gentleman. They had more waiters then I have ever seen in one room but they were very attentive. Very good oysters and the best bread pudding I have ever ever tasted! I definitely will be returning very soon!

The food was excellent as always this last visit (fried oysters, shrimp loaf, crab loaf, Cole slaw, fries, rice...), but our server seemed new (which is unusual for S&D) and wasnt the best. The service was slow and somewhat discombobulated.
