One thing Hopdoddy really excels at is service. The line was long but they moved through it quickly (The first person was slow, but turned out just to be a slow customer..everyone else ordered quickly). You are assigned a table while in line and then a server will bring you your food and later your check and will help you with anything else you might need such as refills or ketchup. The only problem with all this is that I dont need all that when ordering a burger. Hey, I get why they do it. Its a bar. If I want to go out to eat and catch up with my friends or perhaps show out-of-towners a burger joint then I might take them here. However, if I just want to get a burger then the last thing I want is to pay extra for all this service. Yesterday I had liberty burger and spent $10 for a spicy burger with fries. Today I spent $14 at Hopdoddy for a spicy burger and fries. $2 of that is higher prices, and $2 is because I felt obligated to tip at Hopdoddy but not at Liberty Burger. Price alone is going to keep me going back to Liberty on a regular basis. I ordered the El Diablo burger. They offered it Medium to Medium Well and I asked if they could do Medium Rare and they obliged. The patty wasnt thin, but I prefer a thicker patty so that you can really see the contrast between the pink inside and cooked outside. This burger was definitely medium rare, as evidenced by the juices that drenched my plate and bun. Still, I believe due to the thickness of the burger it didnt look medium rare...i would have preferred the inside pinker and the outside darker (more cooked). The bun was ok, but the bottom of the bun was soaked in grease so it didnt hold up that great. The toppings of the El Diablo burger were good but not mind blowing. I liked that they offered a more traditional spicy burger than what LIberty Burger offers (libertys unfortunately has bbq sauce in it). Still, if you were to compare this to the HMF at Blues Burger or even the Hot Bastard at Rodeo Goat, El Diablo falls a bit short. I wish the spiciness was more consistent throughout and wish the peppers were more fully cooked. Still a good burger though. The fries were well seasoned, perhaps a bit too much at the end but overall were quite good. Anyways, I think Hopdoddy provides a quality product and outstanding service. It is generally not what I am looking for in a burger place, but for those of you looking for a place to have a few drinks with your burger, this is a great option. BTW, there are several pictures on the wall. I assume they are of people from Austin but tbh the only person I recognized in any picture was Willie Nelson.

Man, I dont really know where to go with this review. The food was really good. I got a classic cheeseburger and fries. Nothing fancy, but the quality was fantastic. The fries were also pretty good, and they have Maine Root sodas, which is always a plus in my book. Heres where it gets weird. The whole flow of the experience was just strange. We walked in and told the host we had a party of 3. I expected to be seated and then handed a menu. Instead, we were directed to the counter where we had to take a minute to figure out what we wanted to order. I gave the clerk my order and then got my card out to pay. He handed me my drink cup as he told me that we would pay after the meal and says booth 25 is ready for us. I filled my drink, grabbed some ketchup, some silverware, and some napkins, then headed for booth 25. A few minutes later some guy named Edwin came over and said hed be taking care of us today. Having placed my own order, filled my own drink, and taken care of everything else I had to wonder what exactly he might be able to do for us. Some other guy brought our food about 7-8 minutes later, and then Edwin came back. Asked if he could get us anything. Still no. He came back at least 2 more times during our meal, and again to bring us our checks. The three of us actually talked about whether or not we should leave a tip and finally decided against it. None of us could justify tipping for service that we didnt need and never really wanted. The atmosphere was also kind of weird. Aesthetically it was great, for the most part, except that there were weird pictures of Willie Nelson, Miranda Lambert, and some other country artists I didnt recognize hanging up on the walls. They also had some weird mid-80s dance pop playing on the radio throughout the restaurant, which didnt exactly pair well with the neo-urban-hipster vibe of the restaurant or the pictures of the country artists on the walls. I definitely recommend this place for the food, but everything else is kind of a mess. I guess if you go in with those expectations you might enjoy it more than I did.

i stumbled upon this place on accident as I was attempting to go to a different restaurant down the way but that place was closed. And I must say I was not disappointed in the least bit. Burgers should really never be "gourmet" in my opinion. But that doesnt mean that it cant have a little class! Hopdoddy does it well. You pretty much can build your own burger, from the bun type, meat type, toppings and sauces. The great thing about this place... well one of the many great things is that they grind their own meats, bake their own buns, and shop from local farmers. They also have a vast selection of local beers from local breweries too! In my past two visits ive had the El Diablo and the Goodnight burger (with a fried egg) and both just hit the spot. Its not necessarily the biggest baddest burger out there - but its so full and filling. Tons of flavor and texture in every bite. With most burgers sitting a little over $8.25 per burger its not the cheapest in town but you can taste the quality of these burgers and you get what you pay for. Thus with a higher priced burger you get much higher quality and justifiable with a much higher taste. If one burger isnt enough to satisfy your needs, you MUST get the parmesean truffle fries. The perfect partner in crime with a taste burger - then wash it down with a local brew and theres really nothing to complain about.

I am on a Burger Hunt, and so far this place has the best in Dallas. Even if I find a better one though, this place is a solid 5 to me. I found this place because of the burgers, but apparently they have amazing shakes as well! Came here with my sister and while we waited we got shakes - she got the Nutella shake and I got the Salt/Caramel shake. Now usually Nutella does it for me, but the Sal/Caramel was so good that I have award it the win.... It was such a unique flavor, so incredibly sweet like caramel should be, yet the bits of coarse salt would hit and throw your taste buds for a loop every time. Delicious. For my burger, I had the Goodnight, which had cheddar, hickory BBQ, caramelized onions and Sassy Sauce(?). I dont know what Sassy Sauce is, BUT I WANT IT NOW. It combined very well with the BBQ sauce and the caramelized onions, and yet still didnt overpower the flavor of the meat, which was sublime. Cooked medium, tender, thick, and juicy. And good quality meat - they dont mess around. I think Ill try the Buffalo Bill next time.... because obviously there will be a next time.
