First of all, I have tried all the four main Thai restaurants in Corpus Christi, TX. Bangkok Star is one of the closest authentic Thai foods, because they using the closest available ingredients for their dishes on the menu. If you had been to Thailand, you will know the differences between street foods and restaurant foods or family owned restaurant. Bangkok Star is a family owned restaurant with family atmosphere. The small strip mall is old, and the owner is planning to relocate in the future with grander vision of Thai style house and atmosphere. Oh, you can order off menu here if the ingredients are available. The chef is one of the owner and a formal Thai boxer in Bangkok. This is the only Thai restaurant in C.C. with real Rama Basil/Red Holy Basil from their own garden. After the chef shown me the fresh red holy basil from their kitchen, I decided to order Pad Krapao Chopped Beef/Stir Fry Beef Holy Basil over Thai Jasmin Rice with crispy sunny side-up egg on topping. I asked for chopped chili in fish sauce as side condiment. The chef will prepare more in the future in Thai version as chili and garlic pickled in fish sauce. After chatting with the chef about their homemade Pad Thai sauce, I decided to test their Pad Thai shrimp. I was surprised with authentic Pad Thai with fresh ingredients like fresh bean sprouts and green onion and their homemade sauce. The chef will adjust their recipe a little to reflect the authentic Thai style by cooking the crispy country style sheet of scramble eggs first for topping or as wrap; you will have to specify. The roasted crushed red chili paper and the crushed freshly roasted peanuts were available as side condiment side a slid of lime. I was disappointed when the chef told me that the kitchen ran out of the green papaya. I was looking forward to try their Thai Green Papaya Salad/Som Tum Thai. The Thai food connoisseurs will know that there are different version of Som Tums, but Som Tum Thai is the most popular. I will call ahead next time when Im in town again.

We tried this place bc it seemed like they would have good gluten free and vegan options. Like another reviewer mentioned, it seems like their AC was out when we went... It wasnt so bad when we first arrived, but it became almost unbearably hot in there by the time we were ready to leave after dinner. The menus were really very worn out and contained a lot of typos. The menu was interesting, and we liked what we got. However, I was very put off by the fact that we received two of our dishes, which were supposed to be tofu and vegetable dishes, with one big piece of chicken in them each. We took it out and went on about our dinner, but that level of cross contamination is worrisome to me, as a person with a lot of food allergies. (2/3 of our dishes had errors/cross contamination issues, for perspective) The food was flavorful, but I felt like it was expensive for what we got (compared to other local Thai places we have tried). Between that and the contaminated food, I dont think well go here again.

From the outside, this place definitely looks like a bit of a dive, and the inside doesnt look much better. The floor was fairly dirty. Not sure if we just came at a bad time, but their A/C wasnt working too well, so it was quite warm the whole time. Service was okay, our waiter seemed quite new to the job and a bit awkward. The food, however, was good. I got the pad Thai and it did strike me as odd that they didnt use actual pad Thai noodles. That being said, the flavor was definitely there, although nothing to write home about. Overall I think there are probably better options out there. I can see this being an okay place to grab some Thai food for those living on the Island who dont want to drive all the way into town. The atmosphere will probably keep me from coming back though.

Horribly understaffed, our server was good for the number of tables she had, but the restaurant was full and there were only two servers in the place. The kitchen messed up our orders and made my curry super spicy (which I could not eat due to GERD) and my husbands super bland (which he was bored with). We decided to give them another chance by ordering takeout a couple weeks later, and they sent us home with the wrong order. They called us halfway home and we had to go back and get the right food. In both cases they never offered us anything (coupons, etc) to make it right. The reason it gets three stars at all is because the food is good and good thai is hard to find around here. The atmosphere of the restaurant is nice, and if they had enough servers, they would be better.

The food here is incredible! We absolutely loved everything we tried. The place looks like a little dive restaurant in a strip mall, but what it lacks in looks, it completely makes up for in taste. Great place after a day on the beach. The wife and I shared the Green Curry with chicken and Pad Ti with chicken. The Green Curry was really spicy, I loved it, but the wife couldnt handle it, but both were excellent. My oldest daughter had sushi, California Roll and Texas Longhorn Roll, and they were delicious. My son had sweet and sour chicken and 3 year daughter had the kids sesame chicken. Overall all great experience and very good food.

We got Tom Kha Gai soup, pineapple fried rice and Eathan sushi. The food was good but a bit too salty. The sushi was riceless, an option we appreciated. Service could improve: we spilled the soup (clumsy us) and the wait staff did not offer replacement napkins and we had to specifically ask to get help to clean up the spill. Finally, the sushi missed the caviar on top, it was corrected when we asked about it. Good eat out overall, but a bit pricey in our opinion.

Absolutely adore this place! Have been coming for years, and the food is always stellar. The owner, Tiya, is also amazing. Their Pad Thai and Curries are a must try, and their sushi is also really good. If you like Thai food, this place is a must; its easily the best Thai restaurant in town by far. Food is always flavorful, authentic, and delicious.

Yes they may need better management but this Thai food is AMAZING! & if ur not into Thai try the pineapple fried rice. Unbelievably good! & I dont blame them not being able to find good reliable server staff. I also own a business here & its close to impossible to find good employees. This place rocks & I hope they never close! !!!!!!!¡

Ive been eating here since it opened years ago, and its been great seeing the place grow/change. The owner is from Thailand, and is very hands on with everything involving her restaurant. The food is amazing! I have yet to have any bad meals there, and the flavors are great, especially the currys!

Oh boy, what flavorful food they have here. I ordered the Hot and Sour soup and Pad Thai, and they were both just delicious! The soup had a very interesting and unique flavor that Ive never witnessed before. The Pad Thai was just a very tasty and filling dish. 11/10 would come back here again!
