Tokyo is one of the most exquisite restaurant that Ive ever been to. When you go inside the restaurant you have a welcomed and a happy feeling when you go inside. The waiters their greet you nicely and give you a happy smile. You have a choice to sit either in the sushi area, wich is a small area mostly for couples to eat in that area, or you can eat at the grill table and thats more of a family zone. The cool thing about that part, is that they make the food infront of you. But either way there both a great place to sit!!! But the food there is soo apetizing!! even though the words in the menu, some of the words are hard to pronunce but the waiters or waitress that work their would be happy to tell you how to pronounce them, and they also tell what the food comes with. The workers there are so friendly and nice. Its also a great environment to be in, as in they dont have those dim lights that some of the other restaurants typically have instead, they have mild-bright lights because if you pick to eat at the grill table they dont use too much lights because the chef that makes your food infront of you, uses some kind of cookin oil and when he does, the cool thing is when he lights it up and the fire is so bright that it gives you a mild chiken skin. Its also a realaxed place to be because they play a realaxing and soothin music in the background when your eating. The best part about tokyo is when they cook the food infront of you, the chefs their, do some cool tric. For example like they get an egg and they put it in a spatula and begin to spin it on top of it and they through it in the air, but before you realized it its broken, but thats the whole point it and its really cool how they do it. I really recommend tokyo for a date, a family reunion or even for a party, because I had a party at their and all my friends really liked the restaurant, and they also had a great time and enjoyed the food too!!

There may be an issue with google’s placement of this restaurant. I went to this location in a strip mall behind Jim N’ Nick’s Bar-BQ on 3/7/12 and there is a place called Asuka Hibachi & Buffet with a sign that says “now open.” I figured it must be “Tokyo Japanese Steak House” under new management and the name changed. I have a $75/day budget for food when on business trips, so I always look forward to going out for some nice dinners. Unfortunately, Asuka is a $10 buffet and it’s about as good as you could expect a $10 buffet to be. That is, not that good. As is common in buffets, some of the food sits around for quite a while before anyone eats it, so it’s not necessarily fresh when you get it. They don’t seem to have a menu other than the buffet. I was looking for a Japanese steakhouse with hibachi grills, but their one Hibachi grill does not have seating around it. You just pick ingredients from a buffet and they cook it for you while you wait and serve it up on a plate to take back to your table. The hibachi food was by far the best I had there as it was genuinely freshly cooked. Of course if you’re looking for a cheap buffet this might be the place for you but I was looking for something much more upscale and was quite disappointed. I’m still not sure if “Tokyo Japanese Steak House” is an extant restaurant in another location or if Asuka is now operating where “Tokyo Japanese Steak House” used to be. I uploaded some photos of Asuka.

They have gluten free options!!!!! My family used to go to Tokyo about twice a month until I found out that I have an allergy to wheat gluten. My family was disappointed that we could no longer go there and felt guilty for going without me. They missed it and so did I. During this time, I was part owner of an Italian restaurant (Massimos La Tavola Restaurant - also has GF) when one day the owner of Tokyo came in to pick up her favorite item on the menu. She instantly recognized me and asked why I had not been back for a while. I explained my gluten allergy to her and she began to ask question after question about what I could and could not eat. After she had obviously done a considerable amount of research on the GF diet, she invited me to eat there again. I was very skeptical at first as to whether or not the food would be prepared safely but I gave it a shot - and I am so glad I did. To my complete joy I was able to eat my beloved hibachi dinner once again!!! And it is good!!!!! In fact, it is REALLY GOOD!!!! They are very careful to cook my meal in the kitchen instead of the hibachi grill and I have never once gotten sick from gluten there (over a years time). I can have the ginger dressing, yum yum sauce, fried rice, steak, chicken and shrimp. The only thing I cannot currently eat is the soup. My family and I now enjoy dinner at Tokyo together again thanks to Jenny:-D. You and your family are wonderful!!

Honestly, over rated? When the ratings here are average at best? I have been here 3 times and each time it was the same. Which is what I look for, no major changes or surprises. They are less than a year old in this location. This is not the best Japanese/steak house/sushi bar I have ever been to but it is the best I have found in this area. The prices are reasonable, the service fine and the kids enjoyed it. You can grab a corner for a little romance with the dinner or join the hibachi grills in the back for the show crowd. Only once was I alone at the bar and the chef was kind, well spoken and gracious. Not to mention from Japan. The Mexican roll has kept me coming back! The fish is fresh and not bad what so ever. Nice soups and salads. I have had much worse food and experiences in the southern Nash/Murf area as well as in each city when it came to sushi/Japanese fare. This is a great place to go if you live near by and even if you dont. Its Nashville, were 3 or more states away from an ocean. There is less than a handful of very, very good sushi places in the 615 that can compete with a decent place in New York or the Bay area. This one is fine. Above average for the 615.

I am a retired Chef from Orlando, Florida and would like to present views and response. I commend the owner and family (staff) of their Japanese Restaurant. The decor and interior decorations remine me of the Okonomiyako Japenese restaurant in Japan. The Service and Quality of Food was excellent and similar to the Sapporo-shi restaurant in Hokkaido, Japan. My wife and I have visited this restaurant many times since including one trip from St. Louis, Mo. with overnight stay in Smyrna, Tn. for dining. The prices are extremely low compared to the Service and Quality other Japenese restaurants. Based upon my 45 yrs as a retired Cusine Chef and International Dining experience, the Tokoyo Japenese Steakhouse in Smyrna, Tn is rated high upon the list of Quality and Graded to be a Mobil Five-Star Restaurant. Thank you, W. Gambill
