I have been coming here since I was a small child, and I must say that I love their food. I have dined at about every Indian restaurant in Nashville, and surrounding areas, and I have yet to find one that is half as good. I’ve taken many friends, that don’t usually like food like that, and they adored it. It doesn’t look like much on the outside, and the parking is a bit difficult to get to, but when you walk inside you are greeted by one of the wonderful Indian staff. One half of the restaurant is kind of dim, but the other has more light. There is a mural on one of the walls, and the remainder of the décor is pretty simple. Neutral colors and a cute elephant trim around the walls really pull the look of India together. The menu is huge and explains everything thoroughly. During the lunch hours they serve a buffet, which I have not personally experienced. Be careful when ordering, because even if you like spicy food, I wouldn’t go above medium on your first time. They always make sure to keep your water glass full, and you get unlimited rice to go with your meal. They offer a lot of vegetarian choices, but their meat dishes are just as good. I usually get the Malai Kofta. It’s a traditional, vegetarian dish that is composed of balls of Indian cheese, with assorted vegetables and almond slivers, in a sauce with the perfect mixture of spices. I know it doesn’t sound too good, but it is phenomenal. They offer assorted wines and beers from India, but they also have simple fountain drinks. I love their Mango Lassis. It’s an old favorite made of mango juice, yogurt, and rose water. It’s really sweet, and good for putting out the heat of the food. They are very filling though, so don’t drink it all before your meal comes. After you leave you’re left with the memory of a one of a kind dining experience that makes you want to come back again and again. I highly recommend this place to anyone and everyone.

After reading some of the negative reviews on this site, the only thing I can figure is that those people are Nashville natives who have never had real Indian food. If you dont like authentic Indian food, go to Indian Cuisine on 21st Ave. If you want the real thing, come to Sitar. After moving here 6 months ago and becoming thoroughly depressed over the lack of good ethnic cuisine, I was relieved and surprised to find Sitar. Every time Ive been there (6 times so far) the place has been packed, and the majority of the customers are Indian. I think this has to be a good sign. The buffet is a great deal and the food is just as good as the food ordered off the menu for dinner. I have always found the service efficient and friendly. Some favorite dishes: The "chicken chilli fry" is an interesting dish combining the heat of Indian food with the salty tang of Chinese flavors, and the chicken makhani is rich and creamy, with just enough tomato. The vegetable samosa appetizer was one of the best Ive ever had (even better than in San Francisco and New York) and the pakoras are always fresh and crispy. Vegetarians will love this place- there are plenty of options without meat. The various aloo (potato) dishes remind you that Indians really know what to do with this root vegetable, and the curries and other sauces lend incredible complexity and general deliciousness to everything they touch. Try the buffet if you want the most bang for your buck or if you want an intro to Indian food. They also make a mean kheer (rice pudding) and always have desserts at the buffet. If you dont like this restaurants food, then you wouldnt know good Indian food if it bit you on the butt.

I have lived in Nashville for 16 years and yes, this is a great Indian restaurant with authentic eats and vibes. Alas, I cannot give a 5 star because every time I go I notice the difference in care that the staff provides to different ethnic groups. Perfect service for Europeans/and really below average lack luster service for any darker skin patrons(Hispanics and blacks). Every time. Today... I ordered chai tea. 20 minutes later, I asked again for the chai...the waiter was... He felt disturbed by my asking again and when he finally brought it out with much sarcastic fanfare placed it at the table. It was Luke warm already. Nearly cold. I was audio disappointed. I didnt drink it. They didnt ask why, I didnt care to argue(because the owner loves to argue over petty cash as my experience last year showed me), I paid for my meal and untouched tea and left. Ill stick with TAJ Indian restaurant from now on. So if you are a minority(non Indian And non Caucasian), set your mind to focus on the great food, for the owner and waiters are not there to service you.

WORST Restaurant ever I had in any Indian Cuisine. They will give better service to NON Indian, because most of the American didnt know how much they over charge and the quality of food which is just frozen and more added artificial color. Waiter itself didnt even know how to serve and how to give service and how to take order. owner and manager itself, he brought papad which has someone left over biryani on it, when we called to inform that, owner-manager take with him and never apologize and never brought back other papad. BEWARE of this RESTAURANT, they charge more, and they only give good service if you are RICH. SORRY TO SAY, BUT MOST OF THE AMERICAN HERE DIDNT KNOW HOW TO PREPARE FOOD JUST TO MAKE MONEY. YOU ALL GETTING FOOD WHICH IS LEFT OVER FROM YESTERDAY AND JUST MIX THAT WITH FRESH CURRY. PLEASE PEOPLE, BEWARE BEFORE GOING THERE. MAKE SURE YOU YOUTUBE RECIPE OF PARTICULAR DISH TO MATCH HOW IT TURN OUT TO BE.

I have always enjoyed my food there until I ordered online. Our order was missing 2 orders of Papadum $2, only gave 1 rice for 2 meals $?, the goat dish was almost all bone/barely any meat so I paid $15.95 for sauce and bones, I called and asked the delivery service (DoorstepDelivery-driver barely stuck around long enough to hand me the food or should I say missing/over priced food....$9.99 delivery fee, $3.55 processing fee, tip for driver, $20.95 priced above order online/pick-up/missing food/all bones) why they charged me $2 extra for 2 of the meals and $1 extra for 1, and taxes on all this...their reply was that Sitar tells them to mark up certain meals, I called but nobody answered the phone so I left a VM with my name and number... They never returned my call. So I ended up paying $77.23...$44.49 of this was wasted money. Fool me once, shame on you...but fool me twice, shame on me.

I had the chicken vindaloo, lamb korma, garlic naan, mango lassi. One of these gave me a really bad stomach ache and luckily my mother provided me some pepto. The chicken vindaloo was ok. Ive had better. Chicken should be moist and tender, not dry. Wasnt as spicy as they claimed it to be even though Ive asked for it to be spicy. Ive never tried lamb before and decided to take a chance with the lamb korma. To my dismay, I didnt enjoy the texture at all. I had to stop midway during my meal because my tummy didnt like one of the ingredients in the meals. I love Indian food and Im still trying to figure out what is causing that because Ive never had that problem before. Nevertheless, I wont be coming back to this place. Im sure there are better entrees that are delicious but Im a big chicken vindaloo and curry fan and this place wasnt cutting it for me.
