This is my favorite Indian restaurant in Nashville, if not my favorite restaurant in Nashville period. Ive only ordered from the menu once, but what really makes Taj stand out is the lunch buffet. Its $13, which may sound like a lot for a buffet, but its worth it. Ive been to other Indian buffets, and the selection isnt nearly as vast. The buffet includes regional cuisines from all over India. Theres Kashmiri options (the dum aloo is creamy and delicious), Hyderabadi options (the chicken biryani is awesome, but they switch out the meat options every week between chicken, goat, and lamb), Indo-Chinese options (they switch between chilli fish and chilli chicken), and always two or three delectable desserts. The staff is great here as well. My weekly routine on Sundays is to come here after church for the lunch buffet and stock up for work. If you get the buffet to go, theyll give you a standard to-go box, plus two plastic bowls, AND a huge naan bread. This is enough for 2-3 meals, so I dont have to bring lunch to work until Tuesday usually! The wait staff knows me as a regular, so as soon as I walk in the door, theyve already got my box and bowls ready for me and naan fresh out of the oven. Its super easy to get in, get out, and get to work. The only downside of the buffet is that you cant control the heat level like you can if ordering off the menu. By default, the food at the buffet is pretty mild. The spiciest thing Ive had is the sambhar, and thats just because I always scoop a red chilli into there. Anyway, if youre looking for a huge variety of authentic Indian food along with great customer service, Taj is where you want to go! You wont be disappointed.

As a well seasoned indian food conosouir, I unfortunately have to rate this as the worst (of 6) indian restaurant. This is a comparison out of bombay palace, sitar India, woodlands, masala and ale house and dosa hut [in no particular order]. I recently on 5.29.16 went for buffet. I went at 1pm. The cost is 13 per person. Food was of adequate variety and flavors. But it was an underwhelming experience. Out of a few curries, the main flavor was garam masala (a heavy hand at that). The tandoori chicken was dry. The chaat was very soggy. The Naan was cold and hard, until new Naan was requested. The pani poori was good though. Worst of the experience, Food rating is plain. Not a fantasma of the great Indian flavors the Indian culture is known for. The kheer was sour (most likely made with old milk). I told the manager and he said "yes its bad." "This is problem. " upon him saying this. He simply closed the door. This is extremely poor service and management. Aside from the food safety aspect, an apology and some explanation is required. A discounted buffet would have been also warranted. Bottom line. There are many more indian restaurants, this one was subpar.

Writing this review right from the restaurant. We ( I and my finace) were visiting Nashville on our way to Smoky mountains from Chicago, IL. I saw great reviews and decided to dine in. We ordered appetizers and it tasted great but from then on everything went south. Servers put our order on the table and walked away, we were not even served dishes to eat our food. We waited for a server to stop by our table for more than half hour With no response. We finished our appetizers and devided we would take out main course to the hotel and eat there as we fed up by the worst service in my life. However, my finace asked to give them one more chance and we ordered dessert that was never served but we were charged for it. One of the worst thing is when we asked for a cheque, they didnt even do that. Seemed liked they did not care at all. They broke record of the worst service ever by not giving us water to drink even after asking three times. I WOULD GIVE THEM NEGATIVE STARS IF I COULD. PLEASE DO NOT DINE IN THIS RESTAURANT.

Taj has some of the best, if not the best, budget Indian food in the city. They are primarily focused on North Indian fare. So no dosas/vada/sambar here. But what they do they do well. They have an impressive tandoor that pumps out some of the fluffiest naans this side of the Atlantic. They have a large selection of items for vegetarians, and meat eaters are equally well serviced. For vegetarians, I highly recommend their samosas for the appetizers and the daal makhani for the entrée. The tandoori paneer served on a sizzling plate all red and tangy is quite a delight too. While their beer selection is paltry, they do have Taj Mahal and Kingfisher, the Bud Lite and Miller Lite from India. Nothing to write home about, but it goes well to take the edge off some of the spicy foods.

Delicious food with an authentic feel. Service was very good. No wait for water and papadum, accompanied by various sauces. The goat vindaloo had superb flavor, but was difficult to eat as it was more bone than meat, with bits of jagged bone swimming in the sauce. Delicious but challenging to consume, and would have appreciated a bit more substance. The chicken tikka masala was also great, with nice, succulent chunks. Waiter refilled our rice halfway through, which was nice. A bit of a wait between when the papadum was taken away and when the entrée arrived, but proved worth the wait. Not cheap food - $10-15 per dish, but definitely not bad for the quality. Takes a minute to prepare, so get an appetizer if youre starving!

The wait staff is rude. At least five tables who arrived much later than us were served well before us. Weve been there three times and this happened each time. We thought that might be part of the growing pains of a new establishment, but this is a continuing pattern. Each time we were on the verge of leaving when we were finally served. Maybe its because theyre racist about us being an interracial couple??? The foods good, but no better than Sitar or Bombay Palace. If you like Indian food and you dont fit into their predetermined acceptable racial profile, you will want to save yourself the grief and go to Sitar or Bombay Palace. The wait staff at those establishments are not an assemblage of miserable, inept louts.

Im a regular patron, and it only keeps getting better and better! Renovated decor makes for a lovely visual, and even when busy, theres no wait for a table. Servers are more often than not very shy, quiet people, so it can be a little challenging sometimes if youre used to the typical extroverted American server. The buffet is a little cramped, but always spectacular food. The spicing can fluctuate some, but with a full selection of chutney, you can cool off no problem. Chicken Mankini, Methi mali mutter, and saag paneer are AMAZING. Fresh, hot naan served to your table, but can take a minute to get out to you. The mango lassi is thick and positively delicious!

We have been here many times and ordered catering dinner for my sons birthday party for close to 100 people and the food was awesomely delicious and fresh. My friends and relatives still talk about the food at the party and it is almost 6 months now. The next day, I took some leftovers to work and shared with people at work and they have been asking me to bring the Chicken 65 again. I am about to place an order for Christmas holiday party at work today. I really recommend their Buffet it is the best in town. Service has improved a lot since they first open. I truly recomend everyone to try this restaurant at least once. Mack
