Im not sure if theyve lost their chef or just quit caring. We were there for hamburgers the other day and it was just disappointing. The only flavor that came through was bitter. The hamburgers are served on standard food service whole wheat buns, not what we were expecting from previous reviews. Whole wheat breads tend to lean to the bitter side already, and thats fine, but then they threw it on the grill and got dark grill marks on it. All we could taste was the char. They would have been better served to butter that bad boy up and throw it on the flat top. It had a large piece of white cheese on it, but I really cant tell you what type, because I couldnt taste it. There was a house-made pickle spear served on top of the patty, but it tasted spoiled. I love all types and varieties of pickled vegetables, and this was just wrong tasting. The patty wasnt bad. We both ordered medium rare and it was more medium than medium rare, but still remained juicy. The meat was under seasoned, but decent. The house made chips werent very good either. Having home made chips from Pops Deli for the first time last week really made me appreciate what a chip can be. The chips at SOB were bitter, bendy, and chew. The ones that were cut thin enough to crunch up werent as bad. The best thing we had was the house made ketchup. It was a little sweet, a little salty, and all tomatoey. If everything were as good as the ketchup, this place would be ballin. The service was great, but there were only two tables in the place and the server was the owner. So theyve got that going for them.

Id heard great things and I was greatly disappointed. We went on trolley night so downtown was crowded, but when we walked in the inside was nearly empty, but they couldnt seat us because all of those were reserved. Theyd probably do more business by not doing reservations on trolley night; its not the class of restaurant youd expect to have reservations anyway. We sat outside which was fine as it was a beautiful night. I liked the popcorn, but thats about the only thing I liked. I had the burger as did one of my friends. When the food came out my friend pointed out that the fries were a bit dark, but the waitress was dismissive of them being burnt. Our waitress then disappeared for a very long time. Upon coming back she asked if "everyone was still alive" thats a rather low bar to live up to. My friend sent her fries back as they were burnt. Id eaten about half of my fries and the waitress asked if mine were ok. They were ok, but again thats a low service standard. The burger was also overdone. There were three things I could taste on the burger: char, way too much seasoning, and the most overpowering pickles Ive ever tasted. I love pickles, but these werent good pickles. I dont typically write reviews, but it was just such a poor experience I had to share.

S.O.B. Son-Ova-B this place is legit. First trip back to the M in awhile. Glad I got my southern strut back in this place. We walked by South of Beale initially, but the SOB sign called me back! Location is super convenient to the heart of downtown/Beale. But after stopping in for lunch with muh old lady, I think we would have driven 30 minutes out to visit. Great relaxed vibe, great local beers on tap, very attentive staff. The old lady ordered the duck fried rice, we loved it. Went great with the Ghost River Golden Ale and the MM Fireside Amber. We will be back, bet.

I arrived on Sunday for a late brunch/early dinner and sat at the bar. This was my first stop after arriving at the airport on a business trip. My last visit was two years ago and my memory did not play tricks on me. Both visits featured great service, knowledgeable staff, and good food. On both visits I had salmon...last time the entree, this time with the arugula salad. In either case, fresh ingredients in generous amounts. As for a beverage...Im a beer girl, and while the selection was well beyond the BMC family, it wasnt anything spectacular. Overall, a great time.

I will definitely be back. We come to Memphis a couple times a year so it will take a while to work through the whole menu, but I definitely will! Everyone at my table got something different just about and every single thing was fantastic, even the chicken and waffles which I expected to be just okay was actually above expectations. I dont see how you couldnt like this place. Make reservations or expect to wait a half hour for a table, especially for more than four people.

They didnt even speak when we came in. I guess you have to be white or look like you have upper class $ for them to be friendly. We spend over $100 and left a $15 tip for not so good customer service. I had to keep asking for refills on my water because my waiter was MIA! Too many times all 4 glasses at our table were EMPTY!!! However, the waitress that assisted us when we could not find our waiter was awesome!

from the 3 good observations above it went straight downhill. food was not good at all. drink was watery. shelled out 50+ bucks and walked away very disappointed. im using my real name and i welcome a reply from SOB. this aint my first time at the rodeo visiting a DDD recommended place. psssst. some salt and a little ground cayenne will do wonders for the BLAND gumbo.

Amazing brunch spot in a great location! Several of us sat on the outdoor patio and shared several plates - trust me when I tell you that you cant find a bad thing on the menu! They utilize their homemade, Siracha-based recipe for the Blood Marys that my wife couldnt get enough of. Staff is also friendly and accommodating. I plan to return during my next trip to Memphis!

Popcorn (although free) was barely seasoned and not very fresh. Fried deviled eggs lacked flavor. Hummus and cheese on the sample platter was good. Waffles on the chicken and waffles sliders had a bad texture and tasted fried. Duck patty melt was decent but contained large chunks of fat that were unappetizing. Best part of the meal was the Mac and cheese. Pricy drinks.

Your first time wont be your last!! I absolutely loved the food. Its a small restaurant but they offer outdoor seating which was great because the weather was lovely every time I visited. The salmon was #AMAZING and it came with maple Brussels sprouts!! Im a veggie girl so I love when something other than green beans or asparagus is offered. #GreatFood

Very disappointed in thus establishments food! The catfish was VERY bland, they have their own ketchup that was very sweet (hated it sprinkled with cinnamon), and uses Siracha for hot sauce(Asian). This was very disappointing to come to the south and be served food as such. On the flip side our waitress was awesome!!!

SOB has a great location on South Main and has a great feel inside, but the prices are high, and theyre definitely limiting their crowd with their menu. Could stand to take a look at the Bardog business model and mimic it. A few simple menu choices and an old standby on tap would get more of my business.
