Although this restaurant serves a mix of asian dishes, my favorite by far is their shrimp pad thai. It is not at all the typical pad thai I have had and believe me Ive had many. However you wont have a better one in Memphis. Their shrimp are always perfectly succulent tasting fresh out of the ocean and the pad thai sauce they use is the perfect blend of spicy and savory. Its not to too fancy and they dont add a lot of extra vegetables like cilantro and green onions you may see in other pad thais but you can ask them to add it if you wish. I always prefer extra bean sprouts on the side. Whats unusual about their pad thai is they use a larger than normal rice noodle than you typically see in most restaurants. When I first had it I admit I was skeptical, however it seems the later noodles really absorb the flavor and spice better making for a delicious meal. For a restaurant that doesnt consider themselves primarily thai it is overall one of my favorite restaurants in Memphis for thai cooking. Other restaurants may have fancier decor but you will get the real home cooking feel here. I highly recommend it.

This is our favorite ethnic restaurant in Memphis (among many great ones), and there is one vietnamese dish in particular that I have become addicted to. Its called Bun Thit Nyong, and its vermicelli noodles with grilled (they call it BBQ) pork, fish sauce (yummy), sprouts, carrots, cucumber, chopped peanuts, and fresh mint. The spring rolls are great, too, and come with a delish dipping sauce. Egg rolls are HUGE and very satisfying, fried rice is good and they give you a lot for the $, but from our experience and others, its best to stick with the vietnamese and thai dishes vs. the chinese stuff. BBQ (again, not what you might think) duck is really tasty as well, and the half portion is enough for two people (with normal appetites). Other tasty options that I can recommend are: vietnamese and thai curry (both are kind of like a soup and are FANTASTIC), pad thai, and LARB (thai dish). The service is always great (its a family-owned and run business), and although it takes a little while to get your food, its worth the wait (and I honestly like it that way cuz I know its fresh and made to order).

Ah Shang Hai. Our old trusty. Good Chinese and Thai dishes, but the stand-out are the Vietnamese. There are also plenty of vegetarian options. Two of my favorite dishes in the city come from Shang Hai (Im not sure these Vietnamese names are correct, this is from memory) : beef salad - Vietnamese carpaccio - bo tai chanh Acidic, oniony, amazing. Maybe because Im a cracker no one else will make this for me, but Shang Hai serves this one up right. Seafood Salad - goi do bien - Amazing seafood salad Ive only had a Vietnamese peoples homes, until I found it here. Try it. If you dont see the name, just ask for the special seafood salad served at weddings, etc. You can bring your own wine with no corking fee. They serve beer by the bottle. If youre starving, the BBQ meatballs are awesome. They bring your own rice paper and hot water to make rolls yourself.

Nothing to look at from the outside or the inside. Family sitting near the kitchen flipping between English language and Vietnamese (I assume) TV stations. Large Chinese and Thai menus, but I flipped to the back and ordered the Vietnamese food. Had no idea how much I was getting when I ordered steamed spring rolls, pho and a shrimp and pork salad. Turned out to be enough for 2-3 people. Fresh, crisp, spicy and tasty throughout.

Our favorite Asian restaurant in Memphis. Weve been devotedly going here for a decade. The only drawback is that they arent always good about bringing all of the food out at the same time, sometimes one member of your group will be done eating before another gets their food. Tweety and her children are attentive and kind, and the catfish curry is what my curried dreams are made of.

Ate here last Friday, food was excellent, though waitress was less than. She would place herself in corner checking her phone. I sat there several minutes watching her straightening things on table, ignoring me. I finally asked if I was supposed to order at counter. Everything I needed I had to ask for, tea, straw, plate etc.. I guess Ill just use takeout from now on.

I saw that this restaurant had good reviews and thought to give it a try. I ordered takeout for two entrees when I got there the total was $44 completely overpriced and both entrees tasted smoky like i was eating right off the grill. The inside of the building was dirty, needless to say I wont be going back.

Best Thai for the money in Memphis!!! be sure and look at the back page of the menu. Kang Masaman and Pad Thai are amazing. Egg Rolls are something special and made fresh daily. Steer away from traditional chinese menu items for Shang Hai at its best.

In terms of authenticity, this place is so so. But I believe this is the only place where you can get Bo La Lot in Memphis.
