Contrary to the other reviews, I believe that The Happy Mexican is by far the best Mexican restaurant in Memphis. I have never been disappointed in either the food or service, even during times when the restaurant is full of diners, which occurs most of the time. As for service, I dont know what these other reviewers are talking about, because I have always been treated well every time that I ate there. During a "rush," the average wait time for a table is five minutes, which is about the same for most restaurants. The wait staff is very attentive and I have never had any complaints. The food itself is delicious, especially the fajitas (the last one I ate had cactus in it, and it was GOOD!). For anyone accustomed to the Tex-Mex restaurants in the Southwest and West Coast, The Happy Mexican might not measure up to the finest restaurants there, but by Memphis standards, it is clearly the best in town, in my opinion. By the way, I have been to a few Mexican restaurants in the West (including a cantina in Juarez, Mexico), and The Happy Mexican can hold its own with most of them. The Happy Mexican is a fine dining establishment that I highly recommend to anyone looking for both great food and a fine dining experience.

I wouldnt recoomend this place to no one! Our waiter Patricio followed us to the car upset about his tip, because he wanted to show his manager how they are being treated. Then he got mad and said we were taking from a college students pocket!!!! No pickles for the advertised hamburger that comes with pickles. As soon as we got there and ordered our drinks we were told that we had to wait for chips and salsa cause the bus boy disappeared and hes the one that makes them.. Really! Get the order right before you worry about a tip! This is a bad reflection on business and word of mouth will not help! Your college problems are not the customers problems! I would never come back!!!

Some of my former co-workers and I decided to try out the Happy Mexican after work recently. I had heard good things about it from two current co-worker and I have to agree. The margaritas were good as was the food and service. The only negative was the heat of the salsa but my friends have tender tongues. We all liked the cheese dip. I had a vegetarian plate with a bean chalupa and cheese enchilada that were quite tasty. My friends had chicken quesadillas and nachos. Everyone was pleased. There werent many people there so that may had made good service easier. I was surprised at the negative reviews. Im sure we will return.

Due to the policy of holding a credit card and your ID while you eat and then demanding that you the customer (instead of waiter simply checking), walk back to your table and present them with a signed receipt while having a "body guard" stand between you and the door is simply reprehensible, and also False Imprisonment, which is quite illegal. I would not have gone were my party not dead set on attending this establishment, and I will never be back. Other than that, the food and drink were of average quality at best. There are simply way too many Latino restaurants in the Memphis area to bother with the hassle of this one.

Folks from work go here on occasion for a quick lunch, and we generally enjoy the food and the prices. Although you can certainly find better Tex-Mex food in the city, the lunch is very inexpensive, and Ive never had anything that tasted bad. The restaurant is fairly large given the number of clientele, so groups of 6 or more can usually find seating without any problems. One of the downsides of the restaurant is that once the street parking is full, the empty unpaved lot across the street is the next closest option. If it has been raining, you might want to opt for walking farther and staying on the pavement.

Sorriest Mexican restaurant in Memphis. The service was slow, waiters less than enthusiastic and food taste like cardboard. Customers seated after us had drink and food orders taken before my party (only 2 of us). One guy even whistled and snapped his finger at the server. Once our order was taken, we had another 30min wait for food. Not once did server check on us. When we stood to walk out, magically our food was ready. The food matched the service, no flavor at all. I was so disappointed. We paid and left. Wont ever return. Save your time and money, dont go here.

They asked to hold your credit card and drivers license if over nine people. The gratuity for nine was thirty dollars. My niece had some people come in she new and sat at their table to conversate with them and when I went to retrieve my credit card and ID, I was told I had to wait until they paid for theirs before I could get my card back and they were not we with us or apart of the nine. The short lady with the long nose very rude. She snatched my receipt from my hand because she got made because I was upset about the whole incident.

HATED IT! The first time? Obnoxious drunk at bar being really feely with a customer. Complained to management. Management did NOTHING. Second time? Sat next to birthday party that was so loud you couldnt speak, cursing, etc. Complained to management. He "said something to them" - which did NOTHING but make them louder. Food was alright - but will not be back until they can figure out how to manage their restaurants. PITIFUL. Avoid the Wolfchase Location!!!!

Used to be my favorite spot for Mexican food in Memphis a couple of years ago. Just left the establishment and left with a horrible experience. First we were charged $4 for tap water for giving some to our dog while we were sitting on the patio. Then, the entire time our waitress was extremely rude and provided horrible service. They will never get my business again and at this rate they will surely go broke soon. Good riddance!
