Let me begin by saying that its a great restaurant, great food and the amount is insane. I go there all the time, so Im going to make it short and sweet. Last Saturday I take my mother for dinner, get my bill which was $94.64 and I graciously left my waiter (Eric) a $20 cash tip, more than the 20%. A few days later Im checking my bank and notice a $124.64 charge on my debit from the Crab Shanty. I immediately call and Im told I need to speak to night manager Peter, which I had to call back more than once. I finally speak to him and he states that he will look into it and he would call me right back, that was on Wednesday. No call back. I call back on Friday and speak to Peter and he says "oh, I meant to call you back but I lost your #", its now Friday evening. He then tells me that I was right and that they had charged someone elses tip on my card, which meant I left a $50 tip and you mean to tell me no one noticed and that this situation has happened before. He graciously offered to give me back the $30 which I could either pick up (as if I dont have a job) or he could mail it. Mind you, I live in Manhattan. I opted for the latter. Its now Wednesday and Im still waiting for my money, its not much but its the principle. This has left a sour taste in my mouth. Dont think Im coming back. All Im saying is CHECK YOUR BILL BEFORE AND AFTER!!!

This place is pretty aweful. First off it looks like a cross between an antique shop, a diner, and an porch. The service there is terrible, partly because the waiters cant actually see into the booths without literally being inside them. I had coffee spilled on me which isnt a huge deal, but being offered no compensation was. The food was the biggest issue. The best thing we were served were the lemons. All the fried food is heavily breaded, yet curiously void of any flavor. The broiled fish is definitly a must if youre trying to kill someone with dissatisfaction, and if you like old tomato paste on overcooked pasta get the linguini as a side. In short this place is beyond bad in every aspect. Stay far away and save yourself some money (yeah its overpriced as well... not that anyone should pay anything for that food to begin with).

King crab legs were good however we became extremely sick the entire 45 min trip home! Called restaurant after we vomited to find out what was in melted butter, only to find out that it was 100% margarine which isnt considered a food! The woman who answered the phone said people are watching their calorie intake which is why they dont put butter out but margarine is one of the worst things for you and she told me that butter is much more expensive than margarine which is why they serve it instead! So when you spend 60 bucks on king crab legs the last thing I would expect served to me is and artificial food do the research.i would never go back! Shame on the owners for penny pinching!

This is probably the most traditional Italian seafood restaurant on City Island. The portions are large and the prices are reasonable. The seafood is fresh and tasty. You get a loaf of garlic bread (lots of garlic) and a pickled vegetable plate for the table. Most of the entrees include soup or salad and your choice of side - french fries, baked potato, or rice. I would recommend getting the soup (clam chowder) because they put a lot of clam in it. Look out for specials since you can find a good deal. The lobster special we got had a whole lobster, baked clams, and shrimp for only $18.99. On your way out, remember to get a free apple in the barrel near the door.

The night I dined here this place was buzzing with activity. Every table was full, waiters flying around the tables serving great American style seafood and garlic bread that was a sponge for buttery garlicky amazingness. They do not take reservations and we had a bit of a wait in a loud cramped lobby with other patrons, even this time was spent in a sort of giddy anticipation. As if to ask, will the experience let us down or surpass our expectations? Are there better restaurants on City Island? Probably. The Original Crab Shanty was great in a since that it true to itself, it did not pretend to be it just was. Did I mention that the menus were shaped like crabs?

This is my first time at city island and this place was recommend by friends. We sat down in the booth and i almost slip down. It was a glass with juice on the floor..So they took 10mins to clean it up. Then we finally sat back down to order. The waitress got my order all wrong. I made it clear that im allergic to shell fish and she said okay.. also i dont eat pork. She bring me some baby back ribs.. i wanted beef ribs by this time everyone is eating and i sitting here look stupid..she told me it will take a long time prepared the ribs.so i decided to get penne pasta with chicken it was so so.. i could of this at home.. smfh.. i will never come back..

robert irvine { restaurant impossible } would have a blast deconstructing, this very dark and dingy place. whats with the hideous lighting, looks like a bat cave and smells a little dirty. wait staff, couldnt wait to take food away { there were three of us ladies, two of us were still eating, one of us paused and SHE was asked " do you want to take that home ??" } it was tuesday around 12;30 PM, NO LINE NO PEOPLE... WHY THE BUMS RUSH ?? FOOD IS ALMOST MEDIOCRE.... BUT THE ATMOSPHERE " ATROCIOUS " SORRY......GOTTA BE SOMETHING BETTER ON CITY ISLAND, MAYBE NOT ????

The food is not too bad, but the services from son waiters are poor. I was there on 03/13/2017.after 4:00 PM I was not able to eat the food due to the treatment I receive from that woman. She was disrespectful, sarcastic and racist. She changed the order, I gave the service anger and making discussion for every thing. I tried to speak with the manager, no one apologies about the situation and I get very sick. I am a customer who always bring with me new customer since 1994. I have the feeling in Crab Shanty is more important to get money than the customer.

I went to Crab Shanty yesterday (Friday night) for my mothers bday. It was not an extremely busy night so we got a booth in less than 3 minutes! The seats were comfortable and spacious. Started off with garlic bread which was spot on. I got one of the Cool Combo dinners which included a lobster tail, 7 crab legs, and 2 jumbo shrimps, clam soup and a baked potato for $43-- definitely worth it!! I ordered everything broiled and it was delicious. The service was great and the wait time was about 15 mins I couldnt be happier. I will definitely be back!

Nothing like it! Me and my wife went for our anniversary and been going almost weekly. We drive from upstate New York and have the best seafood meal ever. We alway get the same meal so we never need a menu lol. The manager is one of the best Ive dealt with in my life always friendly when he sees us coming. If I could post a picture of our meal Id show you what Im talking about when I say the best seafood meal ever! See this weekend hopefully, James Lunsford
