India Restaurant will always have a special place in my gastronomic pallet. Aside from the authentic menu of Indian food that it offers, this curry country at the heart of Hope Street also gives you an original Indian ambiance which will surely set the tone of your amazing Indian cuisine experience, not to mention the warm accommodation and the service that it offers, from its owner to its line staff. So my first visit here was just really quick. Right after a long drive from Boston, my friends brought me to India to grab some alcoholic refreshments. Like a "non-alcoholic drinker" as I am, my very alcoholic (kidding) friend forced me to have a martini, insisting that I am not really a drinker, I asked them to lessen the alcohol content, and so David [bartender] gave me a "Baby Pear Martini", and surprisingly, I liked it (though I think it still have high alcohol content). And so after finishing the martini, my friend [again] asked David to make a very unique cocktail for us. He made us a a strawberry flavoured cocktail which has lesser alcohol content which I happen to like more! Hes a genius barista, he can make you the drink which is best for you! And so the next day, we celebrated my 25th birthday at India. We had spicy-curried mussels for appetizer, which tastes really good and complements with the Indian bread [forgot the name] that they served with it. For the main course, me and my friends had Kale Salad with Swordfish, Bengal Fish Curry and Shrimp and Crab with Korma Curry in Coconut Rice [which happens to be the chefs suggestion that day]. I am allergic to seafood but having the shrimp and crab as the chefs specialty, I didnt hesitate not to have it. It was so rich and filled, the coconut rice with korma curry and shredded shrimp and crab meat is maybe, the best Indian food I had to date. In addition, the Mango Collada that I had washed off the fullness of the dish which is a nice sensation to my pallet after having a very rich entrée. Towards the end of our very special dinner, I was surprised by the belly dancer dancing on a birthday song with a plate of banana split on her. It was for me! What a good way to end our dinner! Overall, my Indian experience was one of the best experiences I had when I visited Providence, the servers (especially Tiffany), the manager, and the owner, and so my friends made it more special. I highly recommend India if you want to take a day off from your typical American dish, or probably, shift your pallet to having Indian dish everyday!

I love India!! Part of coming to a new city means trying new things, and this was a fantastic discovery. My SO and I found this place while we were heading to a different restaurant. The layout, lights, and expansive (but not expensive) gluten-free menu made it an instant contender-- and then the food itself sealed the deal. Food: My go-to dish is the lamb biriyani, with an appetizer of the pakoras. My SO loves their chicken kabobs, plain naan and the mango chutney. Their drinks are fun, and those desserts... amazing. I generally will get the Cheeky Monkey, and my SO gets the 3 Sins combo (I think thats the name), which lets him try out different dishes. Atmosphere: Fun, romantic, intimate... perfect for date night or relaxing with friends and family. (And dogs! They have a doggy menu, which is cute.) Love the lights and the decorations. Service: Friendly and talented. No mixups to date! Food arrives hot and quick. TL;DR: Weve probably been there 10 times in the past 2.5 months, and have used the grub hub delivery option twice. In short, were big fans.

Fantastic experience is what one would describe of this place. The menu is suited to the American palates cooked to perfection without the usual greasy Indian restaurant offerings one has tasted many times. Our fave is the baingan burtha, pesto naan and the magical mango lassi. Owner Amar has a wicked good sense of decor. The entire place is sensual, the seating in the main eat in area or in the patio where you are transported to the lush Balinese tropics, the use of fabrics, very clever. The wait staff is gracious, attentive and knowledgeable. Many options for the vegans, those on gluten free restrictions and the traditional Indian menu to boot. Sheer genius.Too bad the Warren location closed which was very convenient and had a great patio and upstairs lounge that was amazing. We would eat here again and again.

I really dont know how this restaurant got 3.9.. We went last night for dinner. Everybody were upset with the quality of food and service and importantly the price. Quality of food was worst, none of the dishes were good, tasteless, no salt or spicy.. Biriyani was not even close to Biriyani, waste of order.. Veg Samosa was made out of Wheat Flour baked which was different, but not to be called as Samosa.. We ordered Kicheri, oh my goodness, I was shocked. It had handful of rice which was with no taste, no salt, no spice. All the dishes we ordered were very very bad and no one liked it.. We will definitely not go to this restaurant anytime further... Waste of money is my call... If I can give ZERO STARS, I would give ZERO to this restaurant.

I generally dont give feedback on restaurants and the food but this time I thought I should as I paid for something which was not worth the price. I have been eating in Indian restaurants in the US and some of them are really good where we get a taste comparable to a good taste in India. Visited Providence for the first time to see a tulip farm and decided to have lunch here after seeing the reviews. Not sure if it was a bad day today but none of the items had basic salt and spice to add to the taste. Did not find the samosa, aloo gobi, chana masala and the rice tasty. All were without any salt. Good part was a friendly waiter, ambience and favourite Bollywood music.

I went here especially from Boston, Ma. Had checked out their website and read the reviews. Was looking forward to it. But was disappointed after having dinner here. The food which is the main reason one would go to any restaurant was nothing close to authentic Indian food. It was tasteless and too much raw i.e not cooked authentically. The name suggests this is an Indian restaurant but I would say this is nothing close to an Indian restaurant. It has Indian food items in its menu but the taste and feel of the food is very different. It was also very expensive. The only good thing in the place was its ambience.

We went there last night with a friend. Portions are perfect for a large appetite and the ambiance is inviting. The waitstaff was friendly and the food was presented simply and quickly. We started with the thin crust naan pizza and continued on to the curries; I had the lamb masala curry for an entree, my partner had a swordfish mango curry and his friend had the spicy eggplant curry. All three were excellent. The martinis were fun and tasty and were neither weak nor "boozy". My partner got a complementary henna design on his hand as we enjoyed belly dancing. A great evening for three at around $100 with tip.

Ive been going to India for many years and each time we go to India Restaurant on Hope Street we really enjoy the food, atmosphere and staff. The staff is always quick to greet us and make sure we are comfortable with our seating (outside in the summer is great in the back courtyard), the atmosphere is fun and the food is always fantastic with plenty to eat... The bread basket is always good to start and I try a new dish on every trip with out a disappointment ! A great addition to the Providence RI food scene
