Definitely not feeling the love for this one. We stopped by here when we were in the area, based on the other reviews. My first surprise was that the menu was very limited. But they did have the "Hot and Sloppy" pulled pork sandwich that we read about. We had looked at the menu a bit earlier and noticed that the sandwich was $13. Frankly, thats a lot for a pork sandwich unless it is both large and perfectly done. When it came out, it was on a smaller then average bun. It was supposed to be a foccacia roll, but tasted like a basic bun. When I order a BBQ sandwich, I expect some kind of nice smoky flavor. There was none. It was just pulled pork in sauce. The first bite was a big wad of fat. Thats an immediate turn-off for me. It was liberally distributed throughout the sandwich. Okay.......as long as the sauce is good. Any "Golden Girls" fans out there? Remember the episode when Rose made her famous "Maple syrup, honey, brown sugar, molasses, Rice Krispy" log? If you left out the snap, crackle and pop, boiled the rest down to concentrate the sugar, you would have the sauce that was on this sandwich. I like some sweetness in my BBQ sauce, but not to the point that it makes my teeth curl. It was so sweet that my diabetic hubby had to do an extra run to bring his blood sugar back down. Moving right along....It was supposed to be accompanied by potato salad, one of my favorites. This wasnt a potato salad at all. It had the appearance of chunks of fried potatoes. It was the texture that was interesting. Some of them were undercooked at a bit crunchy, while others had the texture of a canned potato. They were coated with something slightly acidic with an unpleasant aftertaste. The service was good, but there was dust all over the table where we were seated. In their favor, however, the people were very nice. Hot & Soul - Fort Lauderdale, FL, United States. Hot and Sloppy sandwich with "potato salad." Hot and Sloppy sandwich with "potato salad."

We went for the first time this past Wednesday night arriving at about 8:15. There was one other table in the restaurant. An omen? Should we stay or should we go? Having read the reviews, we decided to stay and were glad we did! (other tables came in after us) Feeling adventuresome and a bit splurge-y we decided to try the 6 course tasting menu. Theres a caveat on the menu that the chef would choose the dishes so everyone had to agree to the choices---didnt have to like them, just agree to try them. The chef/owner, Mike, was in the kitchen. Our amazing wait person was Liz who has the uncanny ability to take two tables orders without writing anything down---plus serve them efficiently without ever seeming rushed. The kitchen started us off with a shaved app of cucumber and papaya in a slightly sweet vinaigrette. That was followed by a proper salad of roasted beets with mixed greens and a sliver of pate. Then came the pasta with clams. After that was a healthy portion of red snapper on a bed of ratatouille. THEN! came a moist and tender pork chop on the bone on a bed of potatoes and other veggies. The chop was the only course that we had to share but even then it was too much for us to finish. So we had Liz wrap it up along with the final dessert course to take home. We sampled the desserts at home and found nary misstep with any of them. (We finished them the next night.) Everything was superb and at $45 per person not splurge at all considering the amount of food served. The only mistake WE made was not getting glasses of wine to compliment each course. Cant wait to go back!

This was my second visit to Hot & Soul. My first time back in the spring was sufficient to make me want to see what else they had to offer. Im so glad I did. Dont let the location or decor stop you from a true Foodie experience. On my first visit I was really impressed with the quality of the food, the delicate sauces and overall service experience. I was underwhelmed by the lack of ambiance. If you go, just go knowing that you are going for the food and service. I was there on 6/10 and chose to go with one of the nightly specials. I had the "Hurry get the Curry" Large Key West Shrimp Tikka Masala with a Saffron Basmati Rice and House Made Nann. This was by far one of the best curry dishes I have ever had. There were lots of shrimp and they were large and very fresh. I seriously wanted to lick the plate when I was done. My companion opted for the "Strokin to the Left" Boneless Short Rib Beef Stroganoff with Hand Cut Egg Noodles. This dish blew me away. The tenderness of the beef with the hand made noodles in a very delicate sauce. Again, huge portions and very flavorful! The waitstaff were very attentive sometimes double timing the tables to make sure everything was up to par! I wanted desert but would have to wait for another time! These people know food and it shows! Go for the food and overlook the lack of ambiance!

The best restaurant in Fort Lauderdale. Go ahead and pay an exorbitant sum at some posh bullsh*t restaurant on Las Olas or on the Beach. Do it. You wont have nearly as good a time, youll spend more money, and wont have as friendly service as if you had gone to Hot & Soul. Mike and Christy are the warmest, most friendly, and down to earth restaurant owners youll ever meet. Hidden gem. The digs may not be impressive but the food always is. From the NOLA BBQ Shrimp to the Mushroom Manchego Toast appetizers are decadent. Standard fare as well as constantly rotating daily menus are the inventive and eclectic. Fresh market fish and meats go into the daily menu which ranges from Low country to South American to Southeast Asia to South Floridian Fare (I could go on). Ask for Gil or Kristina to serve you. Sit in the relaxed atmosphere and enjoy the exemplary beer and wine selection. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED.

Flavor. Daily inspired menu (fun menu titles) concentrates on fresh ingredients. Flavor. Creative. Flavor. Executed perfectly. Flavor. Consistently great service. Flavor... And really good cheap beer? Seriously, this IS the best restaurant in Broward County. For 5 de mayo I had the pleasure of tasting the last portion of a Pozole verde that the chef started cooking the day before. It was the most delicious Mexican dish Ive had in a long while!. Their hella zarzuela is the freshest taste of the ocean Ive ever had in Florida. I just dont understand how they pack SO MUCH FLAVOR into anything they do, without ever being unbalanced or overpowering. Every element sings in an orchestra of FLAVOR! Just go, sit down, order a few things for everyone to try, have some beer, and youll know Im not exaggerating. Im a frequent here, and so is everyone I introduce this place to.

Took some foodie friends there last night. We ordered about 4 appetizers and 3 entrees between the 4 of us. Holy deliciousness! Had shrimp remoulade on bib lettuce. The remoulade has so much flavor. Then, Manchego Sherry mushroom sauce over toasts. We ordered TWO of these because it was SOO good. We had squid mediterranean style. I had never eaten squid before. The squid meat was fresh and it cut like butter. For dinner, Chicken Adobo,. Pork shoulder with pinto beans, red rice and jalenpeno slaw and Gnaughty Gnocci. We enjoyed EVERYTHING! I asked the server what makes everything so good. She said the owners come in every day and make everything fresh. For example, if a menu item has Andouille Sausage, the owners will come in and make the sausage that morning! Unique little place, too. Craft beer and wine offering. MUST try this place!!! Highly recommend.
