Despite a bad experience in the past with rude management in the Cranberry location -- and a rude, entitled response from Big Burrito poobahs when I complained -- a large party of us let one member talk us into eating at the Robinson location. There are some menu items that I really like here -- potato taquitos, black bean soup, and the chips and salsa. Except, no, there were no chips provided when wed been seated. One of our party reminded the waitress, assuming she had forgotten, and we were informed that there would be none forthcoming. When we collectively pronounced that unacceptable -- shall we say *inconceivable* in a Mexican or pseudo-Mexican foodery -- we were treated to a visit from a manager. Not the kind of visit where the manager comes and makes the customer happy; the kind where he comes and lectures the customers as if they were petulant schoolchildren. In this case, we were treated to a heroic account of the hard-working corn farmer and the in-house salsa artists, and informed that the house "cant absorb that cost." Oh PLEASE! Youre a bar. You make your margins on overpriced drinks. People buy drinks when they are thirsty from eating chips and salsa. Get over yourself. You are NOT delicate geniuses, and this is not Chez Panisse. An average Italian restaurant brings me a basket of good bread. Pull your head out and take care of your customers. Service was generally good, with the exception of the manager intrusively "checking in" on us repeatedly over the next hour -- which would have been an appropriate thing for him to do *once* had he responded to us as if we were his customers who pay his salary the first time. As it was, he would just come over periodically to interrupt an intense conversation, which was supposed to stop while we assured him that we couldnt be happier over not having a friggin basket of complementary chips in front of us. Go Away. However, our party lingered, and after a certain time, we got the freeze-out. Very rude. Didnt make us leave, either, because we knew thats what we were doing, and we were not done with our conversation. They could have sold us more drinks had they not covered our table with the cone of invisibility. The taquitos were good. I ordered the pepita hummus. A plate arrived with warm, perfectly crispy-but-tender grilled pita for dipping -- and a blob of ice-cold pepita paste in the center. Really? Tell me again how everything you do is so fresh and perfect. I bet this blob has never been in a refrigerator for a week, right? Anyway, heres the trick with large parties. Order and pay for ONE bowl of tortilla chips. It is bottomless. Insist on it being refilled as many times as you can stand. I wont be there for a next time, but if you go, hell, bring a tortilla chip tote bag. Also, Mad Mex, turn on the damned lights. It looks like you are trying to hide the dirt, and customers shouldnt have to pull their keyring flashlights out to read the menu.

Ive never been to the Mad Mex in Robinson before but frequent the North Hills location. I was directed there by the manager in the North Hills when planning a surprise party for my boyfriend since they have a party area and can accommodate larger crowds with reservations and a party menu. The whole experience was phenomenal. Jeff (who I believe is the manager) walked me through picking out the menu and deciding what would be the best approach. He was flexible, pleasant, and seemed genuinely concerned about every detail. The crowd was half vegan, and so is my boyfriend, so they gave an all vegan version of the "bueno buffet." There was a ton of food to begin with, then they kept refilling everything for an hour straight. To top it off they actually sent us home with three large trays, each the size of an entire buffet tray, of burritos and quesadillas along with guacamole, salsa, and another large salad tray and extra dressing. I could honestly throw another party with the extra food alone and probably will. Everything was timed perfectly and went better than expected. At the risk of sounding cheesy I"m going to half to say that without the help of Jeff and the Mad Mex staff I couldnt have done it. The location is much larger, waaaay less noisy, and more comfortable than the North Hills location- which is a big plus when you want to have a good conversation at any point after 7:00. I just cant say enough good things about this place, especially for a mixed vegan/non vegan crowd. You cant beat it.

Food is not that great, not that healthy. Its Americanized Mexcian food, if you are a fan of good Mexican, this is not the place for you. If you like Taco Bell, then this is the place for you. Its a small step up from Taco Bell. I think the food is pretty bland, very little flavoring or doing anything other than the very basic ingredients. Anyone would be able to make the same (or better) food at home with a few basic ingredients. The service is decent, sometimes you get a winner, other times you dont. Almost everytime I go there for happy hour, they screw up the bill somehow. The atmosphere is nice, especially when you can eat outside on the patio. The value is okay. You get a lot of food, but its not very good food. The drink specials are great. If you order anything other than a margarita, prepare to be dissatisfied. Its clear the people who work there make margaritas 95% of the time and arent sure how to do anything else. The location isnt that good, its hard to get out of and turn into between 11-1 or 4-7. Overall I just wouldnt recommend it, especially in the Robinson area with dozens of other places to go.

Completely unimpressed. I was really looking forward to some Mexican fare. I had trouble even finding the place because nothing outside was lit. The place was practically empty which should have warned me. I got the steak enchiladas and the steak was stringy, tough, and dry. I kept having to pull it out of my teeth. It was not traditional enchilada sauce, so that was disappointing as well. They do not have refried beans, only whole black beans, which are good in or on things, but not really a side in my opinion. I got my one year old daughter a chicken quesadilla and her chicken was the same as my steak. My other daughter got grilled chicken which she said was good. Despite being nearly empty service was very slow which is rough with an infant, until of course she brought the check, then she was by every 2 minutes. Overall, very disappointing. I will not be back. The one really good thing was the corn off the cob with the kids meals. They also came with brownies and ice cream which was nice.

This place is absolutely HORRIBLE! I travel all over the country for my job, so while Im on the road, I seek out unique places to eat, and against better judgement, I thought Id give this place a try--what a HUGE mistake! To even have the work MEXican in it is totally rediculous. The salsa was more like a tomato paste with some jalapenos and cumin and tasted disgusting; this should have been my cue to finish my beer and go elsewhere, but I decided to ride it out. Not a good decision! I ended up eating about two bites of my chicken enchilada before picking it apart and trying to salvage the chicken out of it just to fill my empty stomach, but the chicken was seasoned with some unrecognizable spices making it inedible. I have an open mind and experienced palate, but I wouldnt recommend this place to my worst enemy! The only positive thing I can say is that the service was good and atmosphere was comfortable. Other than that, stay away at all costs!!! Trust me!!!
