Lunch time. Waiter has 2 tables other than ours. Restaurant is not visibly busy. My partner ordered a glass of water with his tea because he was rather thirsty and didnt want to have waiter running back and forth for refills. I ordered a tea and chips and salsa as our appetizer. Waiter brought out 2 teas 5 minutes later. No water. No chips. No salsa. We order our entrees (two chimis). 30 seconds later hes back to see if we need refills on tea. We hadnt taken two sips. This is the last time we see the waiter until the check. 20 minutes later the hostess brings out our entrees, we inform her we ordered chips and salsa, implying that we thought we should have had them before the entrees. She (the hostess) brings them right out. We are focused on the entrees and leave the chips to snack on afterwards. We finish our teas halfway through the entrees. No sight of waiter for refills. The food is spicy but we manage to finish entrees without a beverage. The chips and salsa barely get touched, because it is to spicy to handle without having something to drink. We stack our entrees plates on top of one another and sit our empty tea glasses on the edge of the table, hoping someone may notice that we need refills. No one does. We continue to sit there for another 20-25 minutes before the waiter finally comes out and asks if we are ready for the check. Doesnt offer refills. Brings check, collects payment, and makes slight reference to the fact that our chips and salsa to a while to get to us. Needless to say, we wont be back.

*Sigh* I want to like this place. I like Mexican food... and the atmosphere is cool. But thats about where it ends. First of all, the service at this location has been absolutely deplorable every time Ive been there. I mean, really horrible. Waiting 10 minutes just for the server to come over, followed by 5-10 minutes for drinks, then once we ordered it was at least 25 minutes for food, followed by a long wait just to get our check. Im pretty understanding having worked in food service but thats just ridiculous. And while the food is decent, I find it to be overly spicy. And again, I like spicy food! A little bit of spice is good, but when its so hot that I cant even finish half of it, I feel like Im wasting my money. I want to like this place but after having two bad experiences Im not sure if Ill be back.

I do wish there wasnt QUITE so much rice in the burritos - theres no reason for the rice and tortilla to comprise such a vast majority of the dish. But I usually love everything I order here, including the yummy frozen margaritas. The soups are flavorful and delicious, as is anything with guac or the cilantro lime dressing. Good beer selection as well. I like the atmosphere here a lot better than the Oakland location. Music is usually something like Cars or Pixies. Its the kind of place I can go with a friend or take a book and have lunch by myself. I always find myself craving Mad Mex whenever its been a while.

A truly solid place for Tex Mex cuisine. They have a decent set of options for tacos, burritos, quesadillas, and the like. My personal favorite is the Wing-o-rito, which is quite amazing, a must try! Its basically the Tex Mex-ified version of hot wings (though they do also have actual hot wings...). They also have some great salsas, queso (favorite, but can be spicy!), and guac. And if you are interested in trying all three, you can get them in an app trio. Also, be sure to look out for some good happy hour specials, especially if you are a student, but plenty of happy hour Big Azz Margs for everyone else.

Food was good._ABSOLUTELY REFUSED TO PLAY THE SOUND ON THE PENGUINS GAME. There was a bar- full of people ready to watch (and hear) the game, but they preferred to play some wrist slitting slow jams. Stay for Hapoy Hour, get your half off draft and peace out fast! We requested several time any other radio station, the bar tenders couldnt care about that, if we ordered food, if our drinks were empty (mine was for over and hour while and neither even looked at me)... Just, dont bother. You have a lot of options in Shadyside, go somewhere else!

Both times we went here our water glasses had problems: the first time my glass was chipped and I cut my lip, and the next time there was dried lipstick on my glass.... Neither time did they offer a discount or to comp anything. I didnt ask because I didnt want to be that guy, and if they had offered I probably would have declined, but I felt like they should have at least offered. The food was also significantly less than thrilling. Im not a huge fan of trying to make everything "fusion", and this place is a perfect example of why.

Place is usually crowded. The food is okay, but the few times I have gotten a burrito from here, it seems like they just slap the ingredients into their own sections of the burrito, so each bite you only get one taste (i.e. one bite may be all beans and another may be all rice depending on what corner you start eating from). The service is usually pretty good, can be slow during busy times, but they do their best to keep up. The drinks are awesome, and the happy hour specials are advantageous.

The food was good. The atmosphere was ok. We sat upstairs and the lighting was bad. Had to use the light on my phone to see the menu. Prices are a reasonable. The parking was very difficult on a Friday night. I parked in the Eastside parking lot by Chipotle. When I came out of the resturaunt, they had towed my car away! Howards towing had my car in Greenfield, and charged me $200 dollars to get it back.Needless to say it ruined our night out. Do not park in that lot!!!!!!!

I liked Mad Mex. The food was good. I enjoyed the non-pretentious atmosphere. Parking was by a free valet service. The guacamole, salsa, and bean dips were outstanding. The only disappointment was a lack of tamales. Too many restaurants overlook the culinary possibilities with tamales. I can easily imagine blue corn pork tamales. The brownie desert was good, but the serving was much too much. Heres the bottom line: I would gladly return -- especially if there were tamales.

Waited almost 45 minutes for our food to arrive. The waitress kept stopping by and asking if we wanted our water refilled as we were sitting and waiting. After the 5th time of her interrupting us instead of just refilling the water, it became frustrating. She also managed to bump my fork and plate with the water pitcher and flip food off of my plate onto my shirt and lap. She didnt even notice! Bad service, long wait time, mediocre food. Wouldnt go here again.

The seitan wings are delicious, and the ability to choose seitan for the protein in burritos was a delight! Its unfortunate that this is the only Mad Mex where you can get the seitan, but that alone masks it worth coming here. The ambiance is great, the food is wonderful... But the catch is that there is no off street parking, which means having to pay an additional cost to eat there, if you can find a spot if you are driving to get there.
