First, off they have very good baked goods. Beside, that one of their employees was rude to me. I will not let one employee ruin my experience of what Love Joy bakery has to offer in the form of baked goods. Here is some advice to that employee. Know who is boss. You are in business to service customers needs, and you can only do that if you know what it is your customer wants. When you truly listen to your customers, they let you know what they want and how you can provide good service. Never forget that the customer pays your salary and makes your job possible. Be a good listener. Take the time to identify customers needs by asking questions and concentrating on what the customer is really saying. Listen to their words, tone of voice, body language, and most importantly, how they feel. Beware of making assumptions - thinking you intuitively know what the customer wants. Customers dont buy products or services. They buy good feelings and solutions to problems. Most customers needs are emotional rather than logical. The more you know your customers, the better you become at anticipating their needs. Make customers feel important and appreciated. Treat them as individuals. People value sincerity. It creates good feelings and trust. Customers are very sensitive and know whether or not you really care about them. Thank them every time you get a chance. Your words and actions should be congruent.Appreciate the power of "Yes". Always look for ways to help your customers. When they have a request (as long as it is reasonable) tell them that you can do it. Figure out how afterwards. Look for ways to make doing business with you easy. Always do what you say you are going to do. Know how to apologize. When something goes wrong, apologize. Its easy and customers like it. The customer may not always be right, but the customer must always win. Deal with problems immediately and let customers know what you have done. Make it simple for customers to complain. Value their complaints. As much as we dislike it, it gives us an opportunity to improve. Even if customers are having a bad day, go out of your way to make them feel comfortable. Give more than expected. Since the future of all companies lies in keeping customers happy, think of ways to elevate yourself above the competition. Listen carefully to what they say.

What a cute cafe bakery in the Pearl District! It reminds me of a much nicer Corner Bakery. My husband ordered the Lovejoy Deluxe, while I chose the scrambled egg, ham, and fontina on ciabatta. It was nearly 10am, and we were the only patrons who ordered something that needed to be cooked in the kitchen, and it took a while. The Lovejoy Deluxe was sooo good though and well worth the wait. It comes with a perfectly fried egg, bacon, Bleu DAuvergne cheese, and tarragon-dressed frisee on a ciabatta roll. Lovejoy serves Stumptown coffee, which saved us an out-of-the-way trip to Stumptown on foot. They also have free wifi, which is always a plus when youre visiting from out of town and dont have free wifi at the hotel.

[ATTENSION] Lovejoy Bakers is no longer a bakers. They sell used baked goods and simply sell coffee drinks w/ their menu. If you are looking for quality baked goods I suggest going to a new place instead of this false bakery. I used to be able to go to this place and get high quality fresh baked goods in the morning. Now, the baked goods I have gotten are all old, and it would see the "baristas" are told to lie about the freshness. All their baguettes were the density of blackhole while being as dry as a desert. If you are looking for fresh baked good I highly suggest a quality place like Safeway. And to those of you who run and own Lovejoy "Bakers", you are disappointments. Have fun becoming just another Starcucks.

My husband and I are traveling by car from the South of Mexico, Chiapas, San Cristóbal de Las Casas, throuigh the US and Canada in 3 months. We do this for the second time, because we love the National Parks, especially in the US. We had just strayed in trhe Paradise Inn in Mount Reinier and everything was great except the food. The food was so expensive and so bad that we left withouit breakfast. In Portland a very nice employee of REI sent us to the Lovejoy Bakery and we had the BEST sándwich since we have entered the US 5 weeks ago and everybody was sooo friendly - what a great experience!

Even at 3pm on a Wednesday, there is still plenty of bread, including a few baguettes ($2.95). I took one and a mug for bottomless coffee ($1.50) and found a spot in a corner somehow ignored by the droves packing the tables, stools, and even standing area. The music, decoration, and wifi all make the place a fine spot to stay for a couple hours. Ill be coming back to hang out and munch on bread and coffee, but I wouldnt bother with the meals like the $16 to-go pint of gumbo. Coming from Alabama, a bowl of cold gumbo aint that expensive, and the shrimp probably dont even come outta the Gulf.

Best warm early morning spot. If its summer, you get up early, and have about 20 minutes to kill, this is your spot. Grab a latte go outside the doors and drop everything in one of those big adirondack chairs out front. Maybe even take out a piece of paper and try to make a list of how you want to re-evaluated your life so you can get more time for early morning coffee. Not many spots to grab some coffee, sit outside and feel like youre in Portland - but here is one of them.

Lovejoy is one of my favorite coffee shops anywhere in the world, let alone in my neighborhood. The Stumptown coffee is always super-fresh, the place is bright and lively, and their simply-made breakfast sandwiches using high-quality ingredients are absolutely amazing. As some of the other commenters have pointed out, the prices are on the high side, but not astronomical, and given the whole experience of the place theyre quite reasonable in my opinion.

Terrible coffee probably one of the worst lattes I have had - especially for the price. The customer service was non-existent, as a server myself I was thoroughly disappointed with the staff members. The few staff members I interacted with had attitudes and acted annoyed just to take my order or hand me my drink. Not a comfortable or friendly environment what so ever. So many other businesses around here with way better service and food.

This restaurant is built for Portland summers. Tons of outdoor seating and tables including adirondack chairs. Leisurely environment right on the streetcar line. Large selection of bakery items, coffee and sandwiches. Free wifi that works outside too! The staff even came around with free samples of bakery snacks while I was there. I tend to steer clear of regularly dining in the Pearl district, but make an exception for this place.

The cafe is nice to work in for hours, has plenty of plugs and very bright too at the front part. The mocha coffee is very good --I have them with regular and coconut milk and both are great. I enjoy their French onion soup and I got their sourdough too. Pleasant place to visit and meet friends; not too crowded/noisy. People who are working here are so far friendly and nice. Not sure why some people saying service is bad.
