I went to Nuvrei Patisserie & Café in order to purchase some macarons to share at work. Macarons are one of the items Nuvrei is famous for (some have called their version best in all of Portland), and these Parisan style flourless almond based treats are filled with a variety of flavorful creams and custards. What I didnt expect was how utterly sweet and charming the storefront cafe now is, and how inviting it is to want to linger over coffee or tea. I chose to get an assortment of macarons. Their variety of flavors include their Caramel au beurre sale (salted buttery caramel! My fave of what I tried!) Italian pistachio with light vanilla butter cream (my second favorite of the box) Framboise with oregon raspberry preserve Fruit de la passion with vanilla passion fruit custard Citron with lemon lime and orange zest folded into buttercream Rose et Fraise with pure rose and Oregon strawberry preserve Espressio with Coava espressio and white chocolate custard Chocolat with Valrhona chocolate ganache As I was waiting to select my macarons, my eyes kept being drawn to the other wondeful baked items they had showcased. And so thats how I "accidentally" also ordered a Bagel Sandwich. It starts with a choice of bagel here as part of a Fried Egg sandwich that includes fontina, tomato, frisée and dijon butter and cream cheese. I went with the asiago cheese bagel, but other options of their bagel, made with home made pretzel dough, were cheddar jalapeno, honey oatmeal, everything, onion, sesame, salt, poppy seed, or plain. I took a bite and just couldnt put it down and stop until it was all done and maybe shook the sandwich bag for any crumbs or smears to lick the paper clean. There are a variety of other bagel sandwiches, as well as various croissant sandwiches be it for breakfast, which they serve all day, or such as one for lunch that caught my eye that has avocado and Oregon bay shrimp, apricot creme fraiche, dill and butter lettuce. They also have just "regular" croissants (regular, chocolate, almond, or chocolate almond), scones (blueberry blackberry, lemon poppy seed with lemon glaze!), muffins, danishes, cookies, bacon cheddar biscuit or berry brioche, not to mention a whole bunch of other hot and cold sandwiches varying from your croque monsieur or madame to one with roasted and pickled beet with chevre arugula and truffle oil on their bread... My goodness the menu is big enough for a whole tri-fold menu that would rival any restaurant, not a tiny cute cafe with only a couple tables and lovely window counterbar for people watching. And each option is irresistible you will be so torn what to get. Everything is clearly thoughtfully created with love and high quality and European craftsmanship.

Edit since I couldnt find the info on their website: the Macaron bar is Fri to Sun 9-5pm. Came here because my wife wanted macaroons. Cozy shop with good lighting and some great treats. Tried the hazelnut croissant, chocolate walnut cookie, mini canales, and of course macaroons. Canales were soft and chewy, with slight caramel taste. I wasnt a fan but my wife liked them. The chocolate walnut cookie was pretty good, but the walnut flavor did overwhelm the chocolate taste. The macaroons were awesome, we tried strawberry champagne and white chocolate. The hazelnut croissant was amazing, rich buttery flavor with chocolate and hazelnut overtones.

I wasnt a huge fan of their cookies when they first opened. Either I went on a bad day or theyve really turned it around. Their chocolate chip cookies are amazing - chewy and rich and chocolatey with just the right hit of salt. Also, theyve got these interestingly-textured and delicious hazelnut cookies. And of course, you cant go wrong with any of their breads. Ive occasionally had some weird customer service experiences here but I keep going back!

Fantastic place. I opened my own coffee shop six years ago, and whenever I travel Im disappointed that I am unable to find a barista who knows what they are doing. I was walking past this place and was lured in by the delicious smell of pastries. Turns out, my nose didnt lie, and the friendly guys behind the counter actually know how to steam a proper latté. Im keeping this in mind should I ever visit Portland again!

I came here to try the croissant that everyone is taking about. Got there around 10 and got the last chocolate croissant, so get there earlier if thats what you want. I had a chocolate and a regular croissant. The regular was not as buttery as other croissant Ive had but I still like it. The chocolate croissant is not sweet at all which suites my taste. If you like your chocolate bitter then this is for you.

The pastries here are to die for! Its right by my work which is very dangerous. Im looking forward to trying some of the small sandwiches they have. The prices are highish but the quality allows for this. It is very small inside and kind of hard to move around when there are more than a couple people in there. The service leaves something to be desired but I guess thats now the norm in Portland.

I think this is the finest patisserie in Portland. Certainly so for morning pastry. Their berry danish has the single best appearance, taste, and texture of any pastry offered for sale as morning pastry in all of Portland. I like their staff and the owner is an approachable guy. Their coffee and espresso drinks are first rate. When I take an out of town guest to a bakery, I take them to Nuvrei!.

Croissant artistry at its best. Not since Du Pain et Des Idees in Paris have I seen this high level of artistry and finesse. Matcha croissants, rose petal croissants. And some sort of Berry brioche better than any Ive had in France. Doesnt look like much from the street, but if you truly appreciate the quality ingredients of a masterpiece croissant, go visit this place. Also open Sunday.

Croissants treated as works of art. Finding superlative almond croissants in cities we visit has become a minor obsession. The hazelnut and chocolate croissant with (yes!) whole hazelnuts might have even been better yet. We took some back to our hosts for the weekend in Portland and even more for the drive home to Seattle. This is an elite level croissant experience... Not to be missed!

Nuvrei is my all time favorite bakery of all time. I eat here almost every morning. The ham and cheese croissant is one of my staples. Choose anything on the menu and be prepared to feel transported to Paris. The seating is limited and doesnt have lounge seats (a la Starbucks) but the staff is super friendly and a joy to interact with on a daily basis.

Best coffee and anazing pastries! Favorite quick stop place in portland to read the new york tines. Authentic French fabulousness. Bacon biscuit and different varieties of croissants are awesome! Sandwiches are perfect and the coffee divine. My favorite in downtown and fast happy service always.

Good customer service, patient and cool attitude towards newbies to the cafe. The lemon poppy scone is delicious as well as their Americano; SO enjoyed their hazelnut croissant and iced caramel machiatto. This is definitely one of those spots wed come back to when visiting Portland!

There isnt a lot of room to sit, so we took our croissant and scones to go and enjoyed them as we walked home. This place pumps out the smell of their baked goods on the street. Props to people who walk by without getting anything. It is hard to resist.

Best pastries ever [full stop end of story]! Portland is full of incredibly good bakeries but this is by far the best in town. Very friendly staff. Walk by late at night as they are baking to enjoy the aroma coming from the non-descript basement shop.
