After a too-short weekend with a good friend in Portland, she wanted to send me back to California with good food. So we went to Elephants Delicatessen. Its sort of cafeteria style, where there are different counters, place your order, and take it to the cashier in front. We shopped around for a bit at different souvenirs and local products before placing our orders. It can get chaotic with people going to counter to counter placing their orders (I had to go to 2 counters) and shopping. But its fast. I got the caprese sandwich with sweet potato tater tots to go. The gentleman at the deli area was kind enough to wrap my box in saran wrap for safe travels. I also got a mini sweet potato pie. Because of all the gluttony I committed that day, I wasnt hungry enough to eat it at the airport or during my flight. But I was starving by the time I got to San Francisco that I committed a Muni foul: eating on the bus. I was so hungry that I didnt care. The sandwich was soggy from the trip but still delicious! And the tater tots were very tasty. I ate the pie at home while watching Portlandia. I told myself to eat half, and save the other half for later... well, my stomach said otherwise. I definitely need to come back here and dine inside next time I visit Portland.

I love eating here, especially at the NE 22nd location - so cheerful and lots of choices from salads to deli/bakery or pizza/burgers, even cocktails. I love how its "casual gourmet"-great food without being so fussy. And generous portions! Ive also used their catering multiple times for both business and social/weddings clients and always have been happy. Their catering crew is able to staff difficult locations out in the Gorge, as well as public parks, and other hard-to-service places for me without a hitch. Cheerful and friendly servers, and very yummy Northwest comfort food with Italian and French influences. One of the best things is also their flexibility: sometimes I have a tiny party at my office where I want to DIY everything except the food, and sometimes it is a full-service cater with a tent and a generator out at a winery; either way they are always happy and able to help.

This place is a Portland gem. Everything they make and sell is delicious. (My favorite is the tomato soup). Its very much a deli- multiple counters with no real queues, cramped walkway and seating areas- but after you get the hang of it, this becomes part of the charm. Definitely pricey, but a nice place to take an out of town guest, or to grab one of the best milk shakes around. The bar is stocked with better liquors, the bakery is good, and the catering is bar none. They sell home decor and trinkets in the back; great selection of gifts for foodies and wine lovers. Tip: order your food from the counter, grab your drinks, then go to the register to pay for everything. Theyll stamp your ticket. At that point, find a table and wait to hear them call your name. When they do, go back to the counter where you ordered, give them the ticket, and theyll give you your food.

Little bit of everything here. Pizza bar, sandwich bar, coffee bar, and real bar. They also have a delli and all kinds of other things you can buy. I got the mac and cheese and my buddy got the ruban. Both were really good. The reason why i gave it a 3 was because of the bartender. He asked me what i wanted and i said "i dont know im kinda in the mood for a cocktail with fresh juice" he said "well what do you want" and then recommended a margarita. Ummm no. If i said im in the mood for a cocktail with "such and such" you should then be able to recommend at least 2 or 3 cocktails that match that want.

A really good really straightforward burger with enough time standing around in line to afford you plenty of opportunities to refill your item bag with pokeballs by way of not one but TWO poke stops. I bet you could really buy a lot of candy and junk and stuff too but Id rather have the fish sandwich which is probably the most surprisingly delicious thing that Ive ever eaten. I dont know why I ordered something I thought sounded gross, maybe because I hate myself, but I love that I did it. So much better than a file o fish from those other guys. Speaking of mc donalds the fries here are perfect.

Everyone gets their lunchtime presentation box lunches from Elephants when they can. Soups are excellent, great hot foods and delicious desserts from cookies to lemon squares and slices of cakes. They have a nice assortment of cheeses, meats, prepared sandwiches, salads, and a few knick knack things to go along with a last-minute picnic. Best sandwiches are the roast beef and the Northern Italian (with mozzarella, roasted tomatoes and basil). Prices are steep for most items, but the atmosphere at the NW 22nd location is very nice. Its worth stopping for a cup of coffee and a dessert.

If elephants never forget, then they named this place appropriately because they seem to do a good job of remembering how to make good food. If you are in a hurry, they have pre-made salads and sandwiches. I like the blt+avocado sandwich. They have a cookes, candy and home goods available too. Its worth a drive out there and its particularly nice that they have a parking lot. So youre not spending your time driving around looking for parking in that busy neighborhood. Definitely would recommend and if you like it as much as I do, they cater! #GoogleCityExpert #PDXCityExperts

A bit overwhelming for a person who has never been here. They have a great deli section, lots of pre-made stuff, and many options hot and prepared to order. I had the fish tacos, which were very tasty. If I lived in Portland, this would be my favorite place to eat. Its kind of cafe/market style, where you can seemingly buy anything. We went on a Saturday, and it was busy, but not unmanageable. We didnt have to wait to order and found a place to sit inside. The people next to us bought a bottle of wine with their meal, which looked like a great idea.

The best European deli in the Pacific Northwest with a huge selection of wine, warm foods like lasagna and wild mushroom soup, a sandwich, olive and pizza bar, cold deli and gift shop. The bakery is to die for and known for macaroons, baguettes and cake. Its with visiting at 6:30 p.m. when they have their "end of day sale", which means most hot food, all premade sandwiches, breads and select cold dishes are discounted 50 percent. But there is a line at the warm food display. Theres several locations in Portland now... definitely worth a visit.

I love everything Ive eaten here. The wild mushroom soup is amazing, as is the tomato orange soup. Their premade fare is always fresh and delicious. They have a fine assortment of cheeses, and also desserts. The ambience is eclectic - a sit-where-you-can-find-room deal. Ive never minded sharing a table, and have not found anyone who has minded sharing their table, either. It can be crowded and hectic at lunch, but what restaurant isnt? Ive heard people say it was over priced, but I havent found that to be true. 5+ stars from me!
