Highlights: terrible service, expensive, inadequate portions, DO NOT take large (8+) groups here. Review: The way I would describe my experience at this restaurant is akin to if you got a neatly wrapped present for your birthday, but had selected and packed it yourself. You ultimately get what you want, but only after waiting a very long time and when you finally open it, the present is somehow deeply unsatisfying. As it so happens, the 15 person party I was with had this exact flavor to it. The host called ahead about a week in advance for our large group and was told the fish house didnt take reservations. They did however say that they would try to have a table ready for the time we would be arriving. On the day we showed up, we ended up waiting for over an hour to be seated. The staff didnt even interact with us for at least the first 20 minutes, despite the fact our group was blocking the door to the extent it probably created some sort of fire hazard. Most of us headed outside to not crowd the restaurant, but a couple went inside to sit at the bar. There we overheard the staff speaking negatively about several parties seated or waiting to be seated (us) to both each other and to a couple older customers at the bar. Meanwhile, at least 10 parties of 4 or less were seated and waited on while our group was still outside. When we were finally seated (again, an hour after arriving) it still took another hour to get our food despite ordering almost immediately, having plenty of time to study the menu while standing outdoors. By the time the food came, most of us were a couple beers in on an empty stomach. (The beer selection was very good and the bar was very prompt. Kudos to them, and it was all that saved us from bailing early.) The food was indeed tasty, but the portions were laughably small for $15-20 and after waiting 2 hours. I inhaled my fish and chips (4 pieces of popcorn chicken sized halibut) in under 10 minutes. Extremely underwhelming and I left hungry, not wanting to risk waiting another hour for seconds. While seated, the staff hardly waited on us, other than to remove and refill all the ketchup bottles on the table while we were still eating for some reason. They didnt fill waters, or talk to us, and we barely saw them. At the end of the meal, they brought a single check for our party and it took another 20 minutes to split it up. To the waiters credit, he at least understood we would need it split, but the execution was poor. The whole time, the staff was surly, looked very unhappy and disinterested, and tried their best to avoid us. Nobody ever addressed us or apologized for anything, and our group was left with a sour taste in our mouths. All in all, a) the food was good quality but much too small, b) the staff was rude and disorganized, and c) the service was terrible. One more word about the bar: the bar and bartender were great. This was the only thing that worked for us on this visit. Just wanted to point this out because again, the rest of the visit was disgraceful. If you are a large party, stay far, far away from this place. If you expect any service in excess of what you might get at a food cart, eat somewhere else.

Let me start by staying, Corbett Fish House has become our familys favorite restaurant. We go regularly and we bring every one of our visitors that come into town there, and theyve all loved it too. The Good: The food is delicious and hard to believe its Gluten Free. Pretty much everything on the menu is gluten free except the oyster crackers and draft beer. Staff is friendly and helpful in accommodating custom meal requests. They have a nice selection of Gluten Free desserts; not just 1 or 2 like most places. The restaurant is family friendly. They also have a "rewards card" you can earn points on, which adds up to cash savings off your bill. Favorites to Try: Chili-fried Catfish, Fried Sea Scallops, Buttermilk Chicken Strips, Cheese Curds, Beer-Battered Onion Rings. Be sure to try the Jalapeño Tartar dipping sauce -- its delicious! For dessert, try the mocha flavored gluten free cheesecake. The Bad: Sometimes arriving late on Friday or Saturday nights can incur a bit of a wait (usually not too long). Parking is limited, so often times street parking along Corbett and adjacent side streets is all thats available. They are closed some major holidays, so be sure to call ahead.

I came here for lunch with friends a couple of weeks ago and ordered the cod fish and chips, even though Im not generally a fan of the cod. However, I was pleasantly surprised at how good they were, and so were the fries. Our server was friendly and attentive. One person in our party needed to eat quickly, and our server made sure she got served fast. I could hardly believe that there was only one person cooking. The restaurant was pretty busy, and she had a lot of orders to fill. There were 11 at our table alone, and she did a great job. I thought the prices were a bit high; thats probably because of the location. There were plenty of choices on the menu; I dont do gluten free, so that part didnt matter to me, but for others it does and Im good with that. I loved the decor with its nautical theme. Be advised that if youre in a large group like we were, you might have a bit of a wait. And be sure to check your credit card receipt before signing it.

For a neighborhood pub, we might have rated it better on a low curve, but they claimed to have the best "fish and chips in Portland." To that claim, we strongly disagree and instead put them in the bottom half of places weve been. The chowder was worst than store bought (potatoes were mushy) and tasted pasty. The fish and chips (the signature dish?) was bland with odd a taste. Sad to say fast food places have more taste (and that is NOT a compliment). We drove out of our way to come to this Corbett Ave establishment and were not just disappointed, but left with a true bad aftertaste. Note that we ordered different meals for four people and EVERYONE was disappointed.

I want to like this place. I tried their Hawthorn location first and swore Id never return. I love fish and chips. I always like halibut, so I gave it a try again. I got the "jumbo" which is a better deal than "regular" but still way overpriced. The fish was massively overcooked and horribly dry. Now I am officially done here. Maybe they just cant cook halibut. Once again the fries were great, the fish was terrible and expensive. A real shame. I just tried it again, I guess I dont learn, the fish is always cut into these small pieces and it was massively dry again, I didnt even finish it. Terrible, not enough tartar sauce on the planet to get this stuff down.

This place does one thing, and one thing really well: They make you feel like youre actually in Wisconsin eating a super-unhealthy meal of clam chowder and deep-fried fish & chips while watching a game in a local sports-bar or a Packers fans man-cave. Its not necessarily a bad thing, but thats their laser-like focus. Total immersive, 3D, virtual reality experience. My wife and I went twice to use a gift card, but likely wont be back because we like healthier options. However, I will say the place has been packed (no pun intended) both times we were in, so theres definitely a market for the experience described above.
