I have never been more offended in my life. This place has taken a huge dive since my last review. On a return trip to Corvallis to meet my friends, we all decided to go to Aomatsu to relive the experience. We let them know we had 6 people coming. At first the problems were subtle: They only put out 5 placements, even though we said 6 were there. We asked for a second sushi menu right away and they NEVER brought it, never even mentioned it again. They use mason jars for water glasses! Thats fine at a southern style cafe; not at something that should be a fine dining establishment. Thats not how it was last time. They gave us crappy paper napkins, while everyone else in the restaurant had their usual cloth napkins. When they finally brought the 6th place, they brought him a cloth napkin, then laughed about how the rest of us didnt have cloth napkins. They should NOT have mentioned it, much less made a joke about it. And really, I would have passed that all up if I had just gotten my food. My friend and I ordered hot dishes from the kitchen; everyone else ordered sushi. After about the usual wait time, they brought out the sushi. They NEVER brought our hot food. We waited 20 minutes and even called the waitress over using their bell system (she never came). At this point the rest of our party was done eating, and we didnt have our food. I got up to talk to the manager and asked him where our food was. He went back to the kitchen and said it had gotten lost "because one of their chefs was on vacation". He told us it would be another 10 minutes before our food would be out! "Would you like to cancel it?" No excuses or explanations should EVER be used. He should have immediately comped our food. After being completely shocked he offered to cancel our food but NOT comp us, I told him he should comp us. "I cant because our boss doesnt allow us to do that." Excuse me? Youre the general manager! Thats your JOB is to decide when to do that. Think its done? Nope! It gets worse! He told me the boss wasnt in, then as we were checking out he said the boss was "suddenly here"! The boss came out and I AGAIN explained the situation and how we should be comped, or we wouldnt be returning. To spit in our face, he said, oh sure, Ill comp you. How about 50% off? That is NOT COMPING. I was furious. Im never going there again. Just to top it off, we went to the Dairy Queen across the street since we were still hungry. We ordered some fries, and when they came out a size too small, they offered us a free dilly bar. DAIRY QUEEN HAS BETTER SERVICE THAN THIS DUMP. If the management is this terrible, I will not sponsor this establishment, no matter how good their food is. I am truly sorry Aomatsu has taken such a terrible dive. Go to Sada or Tokyo Steakhouse over this dump. Aomatsu cares nothing about their customers. Read my earlier review below to see the contrast. My review 10 months ago: Im really surprised that anyone has had a bad experience here. The sushi is really great. This was the first sushi place I enjoyed after eating at several up in Portland. Sometimes the service is a tad slow, but I think I feel that way only because I can hardly wait for their delicious sushi. This is the first place I introduce to friends visiting Corvallis. My tip: the place is the best 8:30 onward Monday through Thursday. Thats when they have a happy hour, and my favorite rolls are $6 instead of $10 or $12. With prices that good, I can afford to eat here once a week without feeling guilty.

We had an absolutely horrible experience here. Really, just indescribably bad. It took us two hours to get two beers and a couple of really mediocre sushi rolls. Our waitress was nothing short of incompetent. We talked to the owner twice about why everything was taking so long and all he could say was "Were really busy." Yes, they were busy, but what we couldnt get him to understand was that we watched -- literally -- three dozen people get seated after us and leave before us. It was a debacle. There was no apology and no real understanding of the issue we were having. Yes, youre busy and service may be a little slow -- but, service should be uniformly slow. That is, we shouldnt be sitting at our table watching everyone else eat. We showed up at 8:30 and were the last people to leave the restaurant -- at 10:30 when there were chairs stacked up on every single table around us. I have waited tables and I have been a line cook. I know the restaurant business is hard, and I am a very forgiving diner. But tonight was inexcusable. The service was horrific, the sushi was barely average, and the ownership doesnt care. Good riddance.

I was kind of let down by my experience at Aomatsu today, which is a shame because it is usually pretty good. My waitress messed up our order, then never came by to see how things were going so I couldnt correct it. I ended up eating a piece of the wrong order she brought me because I thought I might as well try it in case I do like it, then I wont say anything. I didnt end up enjoying it so I grabbed her when she came by again and explained. She ended up bringing me my other sushi roll a while later, and a long with it the check that charged me for the mistake roll and then one I asked for in the first place. Thankfully she *discounted* the roll for the one piece I ate... Long story short you will probably end up paying for their mistakes as well, unless you like to be confrontational. Not every business goes out of their way for the customer.

0 star for services. Service staff seemed very uninterested the whole time. We decided to go pay at the counter after our waiter passed the table twice without taking our checks. The owner of the restaurant looked very unhappy for some reason. He swiped my card, then TOSSED it on the counter even though he was standing right by it. The card slid across and fell on the floor. He just said "sorry” but I did not feel any sincerity. I wasnt expecting him to pick it up for me of course, but I still would like to see him making an effort to show he was truly sorry. I just picked up the card and left without saying thank you as I usually would. Absolutely my WORST experience as a diner.

Their food and service was really nice ten years ago. Now, they dont care anymore what quality of food you get. I dont go to this place often but only when im in a group and I cant help it. And There were TWO times where I got dishes that tasted so horrible that I could not possibly eat, of which the cold buckwheat noodle had a "broth" that tasted nothing but water, and bibimbap that had rotten mushrooms in it, it almost made me and my friend vomit. I can never understand why this place is so popular and full of people. The new Korean restaurant Koriander is a much better place to go. Im going to boycott Aomatsu.
