The wife and I was watched a food report on the Kolam Innovative Indian Cuisine: on FOX news. The video was of a well stocked buffet with really good looking foods. On Saturday we called and asked the time the dinner buffet was open. We were told 4:30pm, we arrived at 4:45pm and were told they were still not ready to serve. They were doing the vacuuming but the buffet was not being worked by any of their employees. We were set down in a booth and waited 15 minuets before being allowed to go to the buffet. Well the buffet sure did not look anything like the video we had seen, but since the wife really wanted to try Indian type food we picked up plates and got started looking over the food. I quickly noticed many pans looked like they had been sitting there since lunch, many were about empty. Well we picked out some items, I got a bowl of some type of soup. As we now understand Indians do not eat beef so most meats were chicken. Everything I picked tasted of currie lots of currie and all the food tasted about the same. BLAND real BLAND and warm BLAND food not hot just WARM. Even the cooked chicken was just warm, the wife noticed this item. The soup was pepper water WARM pepper water not HOT pepper water.. The chicken was over cooked and looked like it had been in the pan since lunch. Not once did I see anyone attend the buffet nothing was added I mean they never even stirred anything in the pans. I even gave a few pans a stir just to make it look better for my wife. The desert was some type of cake ball in warm sugar water, they were not a treat to try eating. BAD real BAD. This place has NO ambiance I mean it was BAD real BAD. nothing could make this place a happy place to eat. It was just plain Jane DULL. Bland food and no ambiance. What a bummer this eating out was. The manager I think he was the manager was of no help he just kept walking around talking to his waitresss who were dressed like anything but waitress. I mean this place was not ready for prime time. Now the cost of this meal: Two buffets with two iced "water" we ordered tea with lemon. did get a slice of lemon. Cost $27. The waitress then told us (we did not ask for this timely bit of Info.) That the weekend buffet was their smaller reduced buffet, their in the week buffet was larger with many more dishs to choice from. I could hardly believe my ears when she informed us about this funny deal. what a stupid thing to tell us. I dont know anything about Indian food, but I know when food is NOT hot and looks really left over and has little taste except the taste of CURRIE. And Kolam Innovative Indian Cuisine did not have HOT food and the food was BLAND and tasted of currie planty of currie. Needless to add we wont be returning to this place. EVER.

It is worst. The following reasons: (My they means the owners-managers, there are 2-3 owners!) 1. Below comment from rohit & varsha, is actually very correct. They do not want to switch on their AC in summer & heater in winter. 2.Chai in the evening is same as in the morning. They make chai tea only once a day. Chai is just more of milk, never tastes chai. 3. Tips do not go to the waitresses, they eat all the tips. 4. Rude behavior with customers & staff. That is why I always see different people working there. 5. What we see outside is completely different inside. Completely unhygienic. 6. They do have good cooks, but they do not know how to keep good people in their place. Disrespect, dishonor, disregard are the qualities of owners/managers. They shout on their staff, even behind the curtain & at the waitresses outside. 7. I found bugs in one of the food items in their buffet. 8. I have always found the owner/manager siiting on a single special table eating like an elephant all the time. They both order their staff like, " hey, get me this, get me that." As if like their employees are their slaves/servants. 9. They are Indians (from india), but they dont seem to be having indian values in them. For example: I saw one time how he disrespected his waitress. He should be respecting woman. After all, how can they forget even they were WAITERS in other indian restaurant. 10. They would show good food in the beginning when they open a restaurant, but later they degrade themselves, just to make money! 11. Indian restaurants should have more veggie options, but they are *****. The Chicken that you see orange or red, is merely colored & half cooked. 12. They are zero in quantity. Other 2 restaurants atleast give good quantity, but these people, just loot! The naans we order are just a snack portions for $2. 13. The soup is just red pepper water. The Gulab Jamun is uncooked from the very center of it. 14. They just drive away customers at the closing time. I have lot more to write. Seriously, if I write more, You will literally stop going to that place. Even I have stopped, all my comments are based not only on my personal visits, but I have heard these things by the other people too.

THE BAD: Service is...meh. Food is not pretty, for the most part. Decor looks like a little girl ate a box of crayons and threw up-lots of colors, and ALL THE THINGS! THE GOOD: We had only eaten at one Indian place before, so were not exactly sure what to expect. We were greeted promptly upon arrival and shown to a seat. No instructions were provided for the buffet, so we went to the long hot table first. There were many options. Chicken Tikki Masala, 2 kinds of soup, lentil/beans. There were many, many things we were unsure of, but there was a hand-written sign listing ingredients and name of each dish. Naan was good. Tikki Masala was good, and a little spicy. Chicken not too dry like other places. There was another dish, that looked like bright yellow Thanksgiving stuffing- I forgot its name but ingredients were rice strands, Indian spices, vegetables." It was too bland for me on its own, but really helped cut the kick of the spices in other dishes, which I appreciated. There was a cold table with what appeared to be condiments, but as we were unsure of what went with what, and I was concerned about too much heat, we did not try any. Bill came to $28 for 2 orders w/water. I had to request the check, then wait for it awhile. Nobody came to take my money and bring me change after several minutes, so I was happy not to be paying with plastic. Overall, would go back, but prefer our old standby @ 41st and Skelly.

Unfortunately for me, I have had the lunch buffet at this place too many times. It is a good place if you are just trying Indian cuisine, especially the South Indian Cuisine. The buffet line up is very very standard to the point, I have started doubting if they cook the dishes in bulk on a weekend and reheat it every day. The standard lineup of vegetarian dishes goes like this plain rice, tamarind rice, dhal fry, spinach curry, vegetable koottu, vegetable korma, spinach pakodas, gobi manchurian steeped in red food colour, cabbage poriyal, mushroom rasam, assorted chutneys and sauces, payasam and mango custard. If you are a vegan, I dont think most of the stuff on the menu is vegan though they could be vegetarian. The most annoying aspect however is the loud blaring of music. This place has the potential to become a good Indian dining place in Tulsa, if only they could improve the decor and quality and variety of the menu.
