STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. WORST EXPERIENCE EVER !!!! After hearing a lot about this place me and my fiancé went there last month to fulfill our craving for spicy Indian food. But the place was a utter disappointment from the beginning, The kababs are not authentic and even not tender as it should be. The entrée ( lamb dishes) was more frustrating. The only dish we liked is the Kulfi (desert). The service was poor too. Based on our experience we gave a bad review on Yelp but did mention about the Kulfi. Yesterday we went back to the restaurant just to have kulfis. The manager managed to identify us from our Yelp review. At first they served us food and then denied to take credit cards for such a small amount. SO we went back to the restaurant to pay our bill by cash and at that time the manager came over and SIMPLY INSULTED ME FOR NOTHING WHILE I WAS PAYING THE BILL. He does not has the courtesy to talk with a lady. He drove us out of the restaurant and out of the blue started to yelling at us like a police interrogation. He asked my fiancé why he had given a bad review and came back for food. He even threatened us to call 911!!! Completely CRACKED and PHSYCHO. He slammed the door in front of us. He is doing business for 24 years but we are eating Indian food for more than 24 years. SO avoid this place until and unless you want to be humiliated and insulted and waste your money. They are just deceiving people. We wrote reviews on Yelp describing our experience but they have deleted those continuously. SO no freedom of speech either.

Worst restaurant near downtown area. The food sucks big time, Onion Nan had a foul smell, we complaint about the smell and the arrogant owner told us that this is how onion Nans taste like. Imagine a Nan with a foul smell of an egg. We told him that this is an honest feedback and you should hear us out, but he started arguing and told us to give feedback to someone else. I am huge fan of Onion Nan and trust me it was a disgrace to Onion nan. Worst Dal makhni ever, they call it Dal Maharani.... what a Crap!!!!! Menu says "Tandoori platter"(between all the veg items), and doesnt says anything about Neg or Non Veg. We ordered Tandoori platter thinking we will be served with Paneer Tikka, Veg Seekh kababs etc.. but they served us with some Non veg Crap. Owner started arguing that we dont know how to communicate :)... Yeah right!!!!! Finally we were served with Veg platter.... Guess what???? Samosa and Gobhi pakoras... Imagine Veg platter having Samosas and Pakoras... Phewww!!! Talk about service, they will not even serve water to you... when we complaint about the service there waiters turned flying bugs with water hugs, they will not let you eat and will come to your table again and again(I know owner told them to bother us). A highly recommended restaurant for your enemies...

Indeed the worst restaurant I have ever been in Houston.Food as well as their hospitality really sucks.Starting with the starters, we ordered Veg platter, OMG, how can they even call it a veg platter. It just had a Samosa and pakora. Restaurant like these are making bad impression of the indian delicacies. In the main course We ordered Dal Makhni and Paneer (which most of Indian vegetarians usually order), I really did not have any words when i saw daal makhni, which tasted very horrible. The Paneer, phew, what to say, I would prefer having paneer in the roadsoide dhaba rather than having it in Shiva restaurant. Coming on to breads, I think now its a high time for chefs in Shiva, to learn how to make Onion Nan and Kulcha. After this experience, I could not dare to try the deserts.Last but not the least, HOSPITALITY, I am really surprised how managers/owners of this type of attitude survive in this industry. When we gave him the feedback for food, we were expecting that he would listen to the feedback and work on it. On the contrary, he told us that we are working in this industry for more than 20 years and know very well that how to cook it. Chef or restaurant owners should believe people, who are eating for more than 20 years rather than making for 20 years.

We went on New Years day for Lunch. The Buffet was in adequate in the number of items. There was no appetizer - I have been to Indian buffets all over the US - The first place with ZERO appetizers was Shiva. The Nans were as thinck as two tandori rotis stuck together. The Tandoori Checken was Cold. The Cauliflower in the Aloo Gobi was undercooked. The only dish which was kind of ok was a chicken saag subzi. The desert was Gulab Jamoon - The apathy with which the Gulab Jamoon was made was evident in the shape of the jamoons itself - Some were Square and some were of shapes that would make a amoeba move away in shame. The Kheer was short on Sugar - Perhaps the economic downturn is hitting the restaurant We went to the restaurant because we thought that a restaurant that has won accolades in the past would be good - Not this pathetic. Maybe all the past accolades has gone to the head of the management and they think that they can get away with anything. This is a place for people who do not know the real taste of Indian food. Any self respecting Indian will never go there - Maybe it is trying to cater to non-Indians who are getting fooled to think this is true indian food. WILL NEVER NEVER EVER GO THERE AGAIN

Old and beat-up restaurant (80’s look and feel) Every Friday afternoon we (office mates) explore restaurants nearby Houston Downtown. This time we went to Shiva Indian Restaurant. One thing which made us visit the restaurant was the location. It is just 2 miles away from our office. We didn’t find free parking. The street was fully crowded. But we managed to find paid parking ($2 per hour) in a stone throw distance. First things we noticed after entering the restaurant is the foul smell. Even though the tables were arranged properly we were not able to avoid the 80’s look and feel. Everything appeared old (fans, fittings in toilet etc.). I see many positive reviews but I guess most of them who gave positive reviews might not have visited other Indian restaurants or never tasted real Indian food. There buffet had very limited choice. I personally feel Mayuri India Restaurant (Westheimer Rd) has lot of options in Buffet. Overall Ambiance – 1/5 Choice and number of food items in buffet – 1/5 Taste – 3/5 Parking – 1/5 Staff – Friendly and responsive – 4.5/5

What I Like: Service - The owner or manager is very attentive, and his commitment to service flows down to the rest of the staff; I also like the hot towel they give you at the end of the meal Food - A wide range of offerings that appeal to traditional Indian food lovers and newbies alike; the naan is the best Ive had in Houston Atmosphere - The neon lights designating the bathroom are far from normal, but the booths offer a feeling of intimacy that you dont find in most small restaurants, and the sometimes erotic paintings on the wall serve as good conversation pieces What I Dont Like: Crowd Control - I usually come here with my wife on weeknights, but the few times I have come on the weekend I have found a horde of people congregating around the entrance without any orderly system for seating or creating a waiting list. I know the staff works hard to attend to those that are actually dining in the restaurant, but people waiting for a table shouldnt be an afterthought
