Ive been going here for almost 10 years now, since it was at its old location. They have the best shrimp sauce Ive ever had, very large portions, fun and friendly chefs, and definitely some of the best cooked rice Ive had at a hibachi restaurant. Theyve been around much longer than most of these hibachi places that have popped up lately, and for good reason. Whenever I come back to visit town, I ALWAYS try to go, even though its 30 minutes from home. D - Stir fry and hibachi are totally different things. Quit whining that its expensive. Youre paying for the experience of people cooking in front of you. Im sorry youre too cheap to pay for decent food, but this isnt stir fry. In other places, the food isnt half as good, and the prices start at $18. Quit being a cheapskate. Bythegreen - OF COURSE THEY ADDED TIP TO 50 PEOPLE. 20% is the norm for tipping nowadays, and most restaurants say on their website or menu that any party over 6 - 8 will automatically have at least an 18% gratuity added onto your total bill. If you cant afford it, choose somewhere else. Because youre not just tipping your waiter, youre tipping a chef who cooks in front of you and possibly a sushi bar. Theyre worried that people like you wont tip them fairly because you assume that theres so many people that less is enough. If you actually tip on your pre-taxed meal, shame on you for being cheap and screwing waiters out of their money. Im not really sure how anyone rated the food bad, although I havent had the sushi in a few years. However, I will say that Ive lived by the ocean for years and gotten fresh sushi; that said, Sakura is absolutely middle of the road sushi, so Im really confused how someone can highly recommend that place over Yamato.

I was here once with friends, I cant say everything was bad. The sushi is not traditional sushi like most people would expect, but it also wasnt very good. The service wasnt bad until they were rushing us to get another table seated, we didnt stay long, the chef cooked, they checked on us once, and delivered the checks. I dont blame the servers, more management problems, they all seem like nice people, just not the line of work for all of them. Some looked like they were more comfortable than others. If you have questions about menu items, it might be a good idea to research before you go. Its definitely not the worst like my review might seem, but when youre paying for the food, it should be a little better. The fried rice was just okay, Ive actually had better at a Chinese take-out place. The portions were okay, not huge, but not too small. I just couldnt get over paying $40.00 for the various sushi rolls and sushi we ordered. It just tasted like it was from a grocery store. I definitely should have ordered one or two rolls to try before ordering what we did.

Go to mizu down the street or go to the japanese place in boardman because this place is awful!! I used to come here years ago and loved it. Not anymore. We had a new cook, this american lady who had no idea what she was doing. Burned our rice and onions. She asked for another cook because she felt bad. We waited and he made new rice. But the onion with the zucchini was still burned. We had asked for plain rice for ond of our meals. They did that and charged us for it and through the regular fried rice away. No show whatsoever! Nothing! It was boring and burned. Yuk. I am not a big complainer at all but when you spend 25 bucks on a meal its hard not to say anything. I asked about being compensated...lady argued and argued with me. Wouldnt budge on anything. Never been to a restaurant that didnt care like this place. Save your money people!

The "Service" at this reatuarant is non-existent. I went with several friends, we are all in our mid- 20s not loud or rude. The servers gave us dirty looks the entire time we ate. They are just pain rude, heres your food, and thats about it. The sushi is definitely an aquired taste here, I personally thought it was terrible, but one of my friends liked some of it. Personally I am used to their competitor up the street where the portions are a little larger. But anyway, the service was pretty bad, I cant complain about the entree, although, the portion is a little skimpy for what you are paying for. I recommend looking around and finding a better place to eat. The atmosphere is plain and boring, the servers are rude, the chefs are pretty nice. But thats about it. DONT GO THERE!!!

We went to Yamato for sushi, because our favorite place, Sakura, is closed on Mondays. Well all I can say is if you want good sushi, stay away from this place. It was awful. All the fish is already cut. The chef came out to the sushi bar, put some rice on nori paper, and then left. The owner made our sushi. All of the fish was very stale, tasted old and fishy. The salmon skin was so overcooked, it was hard. The only thing that was almost fresh was the ama ebi (sweet shrimp) that was ordered. The shrimp were defrosted in the sink in a pan of water. So it tasted waterlogged. No stars for this place. Go down the street to Sakura for excellent sushi.

Despite the number of not-so-good reviews I read about this place, I brought my girlfriend here for her 21st birthday. The chef was great, the food was amazing. I actually had a mishap and fainted during dinner causing me to fall backwards and crack my skull on the floor, paramedics were called but everything was fine I just wanted to eat! The manager even had the waitress comp my meal due to my misfortune, which I made very clear was not necessary. Their kindness reflected in my 90% tip. I will DEFINITELY be back! And thanks to the family with 2 nurses that helped me :)!

Wish I could give 0 stars. Rice was hard, and went all over during cooking. I ordered the lobster tail and chef dropped large part of it on the floor. He tried to hide it from me, but I noticed him drop it, and him kick it under the table so I wouldnt see how large it was. "Chefs" were more like "cooks"; they just made the food as fast as possible and skipped the entertainment aspect of teppanyaki grilling. We had the Mexican cook, avoid him if possible. Also, waitress with the crazy colored hair and piercings knew absolutely zero about any of the sushi on the menu.

In general, its a nice place with great food. I was with a large party (20+), so we were sat in the back room. It was great to keep us altogether, however the room was cold and drafty despite the space heaters. Service was slow, but accommodating. It was a busy a Saturday night and it took quite awhile to get our drinks. Our chef was awesome! So entertaining! Once we were finished eating, we waited over 20 minutes to get our bills. Felt like we were there forever.

I have had food poisoning for about 3 days now! When all your raw meat is on one tray and touching that sends up a red flag, this is called cross contamination and can make people very ill! Also the chef did not wear gloves so when he cracked raw eggs and got it on his hands and touched our food it was a great way to spread salomenilla to everyone!! Someone needs to get the health department involved since your putting your customers at risk for illness!
