A group of friends and I are visiting the Dayton area and had found, Sima, another sushi restaurant that wasnt very close to the place we were staying. We looked on this site for other sushi restaurants and found this one. We believed the other reviews and were looking forward to the "seaweed salad that was reason enough to visit." We were very disappointed by our experience. The sushi was not only more expensive than the previous sushi restaurant we had tried, the fish wasnt as fresh and the portions were a lot smaller. One of my friends commented on the strong smell of fish when we initially entered, an indication that we should have turned around and walked out the door. The restaurant wasnt very busy when we first arrived and it still took a while for us to even be greeted. We finally got a table and it took another ten minutes to get our drinks. After we ordered our sushi, we were not helped until the sushi arrived and any appetizers that were ordered arrived with the food. I havent been to a lot of sushi restaurants, but this was the first to not serve miso soup and salad before the sushi. I did notice that several tables around us did receive some appetizers so it might have just been our server. In the end, the $15 I spent on a roll of susi and single piece of octopus rendered an average six piece roll and single piece of octopus. This was as much a waste of time as going to the supermarket and getting the sushi they sell there.

Best sushi in Dayon. After living in Hawaii for 4 years and visiting Japan, I cant stand sushi at most places I visit. Akashi was a pleasant surprise as everything Ive tried has been great. Now before you let your expectations get too high, remember; youre in Ohio. Many of the rolls are fried/tempura, covered in sauce, or have non-traditional Americanized elements to them that infuriate the sushi snob. Theyve got to appeal to their local customer base, and no you really cant get world-class sashimi in Dayton. But what they do have is great, and there enough traditional roll choices to appease almost anyone. My personal favorite is the Tropical Roll with toasted coconut flakes... Creative and delicious.

As someone who currently lives in Japan and has lived in Korea, this place is authentic. 10% military discount offered here as well. The western waiter that my table had was also not only very friendly, but also very knowledgeable. She knew the dryness/sweetness levels of the different Japanese sakes they served and offered us the one we preferred. I had the Japanese iced green tea and miso soup as well as the Korean beef bulgogi...all authentic, all were on point. I even asked for gochujang, and not only did the waiter know what it was, but they also had it, which went very well with the bulgogi. 5-stars for great service, authentic food and ambiance. They even have karaoke!

Akashi is a quaint sushi bar with strong authentic roots. The atmosphere makes you feel as if youre actually in Japan and the staff are very friendly. You can see the sushi bar from the dining area or even sit at the bar if youd like. The only downside is that the building is starting to show its age, but the food is great. Our waiter was very knowledgeable and spoke fluent english. I wanted to try something new and spicy, so he asked a couple of questions and recommended bibimbap. It was delicious! I highly recommend Akashi.

Absolutely one of my favorite places for *traditional* sushi. Ive been here maybe a half dozen times. The place is always busy on Fri/Sat nights. The last time we ate there though the service was 1-Star. I hope this is not the new normal. The food was still excellent but it was not timed well. There were 5 of us eating and we all got our meals at different times over a 40 minute period. I watched my Deluxe Sashimi combo sit at the sushi bar to be delivered to me for 15 minutes. It was not good.

Dont let the outside deter you... we have driven by this place many times and never stopped. It looked closed to us. We stopped one Friday evening and am glad we did. Fantastic sushi, great meal (we had the Dinner Boat for Two - more than we could finish but a nice selection and it came, yes, in a cool wooden boat). The server was helpful and patient as my wife had not been to a sushi restaurant. The place was filled by the time we left, mostly with people who were obviously regulars. We will return.

This is my first time having sushi here in Ohio. Im originally from Colorado and my husband and I always went out for sushi. I didnt think any place could compare to the sushi in Colorado. Well my husband deployed and its just me and my 14 month old daughter. I decided to have dinner tonight and I was absolutely impressed with the service and food. The waitstaff are all so friendly and the food blew my mind. Best experience as far as restaurants Ive been to here in Ohio.

Akashis Number 11 Sushi Lunch with Special Hand Roll consists of a Hand Roll, California Roll and 5 pieces of Nigiri Sushi for $10. It is served with a bowl of miso soup and a small salad with orange dressing. If youre looking for the platonic essential sushi, look no further, you have found it. Service is quick and friendly. (They also make a great caterpillar roll)

Ive been an Akashi customer for a few years. They have the best sushi around Dayton at a reasonable price in an atmosphere thats quiet and authentic. Every once in a while theres a loud group of people in there on Friday or Saturday, but especially during the week its nice and quiet. Great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

This is the best sushi place in Dayton, by far--and I am very particular and wary about my sushi places. So many options and very reasonable prices. I came here after Saya lost their best sushi chef and could not believe I didnt eat here sooner. Amazingly fresh sushi, I cannot say enough good things about this place.

Very tiny portions. What we had was good. A little overpriced considering what we got. The uni was very fresh and enjoyable. Spicy chirachi was good just needed bigger pieces of fish. My husband got chicken teriyaki and he literally got only 1/4 piece of a chicken breast. He complained of too much sesame on it.

Very friendly staff, great prices, fantastic food. I have had sushi from all over the area and I think this might be the best. Tuesday they have buy one get one 50% off on sushi rolls and thats a great deal for the quality of rolls they have. Will be making a return trip very soon.
