Overall, the ambiance and decor of the place are the two best things this place has going for it. I chose this place above all of the sushi places in Atlanta. This was my first time trying sushi, so Im no expert. I tried the California rolls, and they were actually pretty good. I decided to stick with sushi for the night, so I ordered the Mexi-cali rolls (a slight variation of the California rolls with tuna tempura). I can say that I was satisfied with the sushi. My friends tried the crab rangoon, the Sea-Salt Chicken, Tuna rolls, and Philly rolls (tuna, cream cheese, and avocado). They all seemed pleased. Also, they have some wasabi potatoes that my friend seemed to enjoy. Im not a fan of wasabi, but the potatoes seemed to be pretty delicious. Dont go here expecting great service. Our server, Meechie (sic) was not very attentive and I had to constantly flag her for attention to the table. We were duped because we had a large party, so her gratuity was included. Theres no excuse for the poor service this place has. Its such a nice place that service tends to bring it down a couple stars. It could have easily been a 3-star if the service had been amazing. The drinks were weak. I had two Patron shots that seemed to be watered down. The mistake in the first place was getting a Patron shot, but I was egged on by my friends as I was the one celebrating my 21st birthday. Also, if the waiter doesnt know a drink; theyll ask you whats in it or look it up for you. I guess thats standard. Food was good, decor amazing, service very poor.

My wife and I came here for years when it was "STEEL". We rather enjoyed it, but we never could really get over the fact that it is slightly more expensive than other restaurants that offer as good, and if not better, Asian fusion options. When the Kuroshio franchise seamlessly took over for this particular location, we were excited to see what might end up changing. What we learned was that very little has changed other than the name. The menu looks largely the same and the prices are sadly still the same. We do enjoy the meals there, and the food is almost always "very good", but we almost always go there with some sort of special or discount being involved. The sushi is definitely good, the Japanese Hot Rock dish is awesome, and their crispy beef is certainly a menu highlight. Sometimes the service is lacking as well... now, I will say they have (unprovoked) provided us with a complimentary edamame dish due to issues with service, so there is a silver lining here, but the service needs to be attentive from the start of the meal and not just trying to make up for a mistake or an oversight. I will say that Kuroshio is better (in almost all ways) than Ra Sushi. And I will say that the ambiance at Kuroshio is modern and aesthetically pleasing. I believe they will have a tough time competing with places like Pho King and Babalu opening up, but if you are looking for something unique and somewhat higher-end, Kuroshio is an adequate choice.

My wife and I went to Steel for the first time recently, despite the fact that weve lived 10 minutes away since it opened. We were immediately impressed with the decor--very modern and stylish but at the same time warm. Our waiter (Daniel) was one of the best that weve ever had anywhere--including 3* Michelin restaurants: knowledgeable, friendly and attentive without being smarmy or intrusive. The menu offers eclectic, pan-Asian fare but I will admit that we didnt sample the regular appetizers because we were too focused on the extensive and innovative sushi menu. The sushi was delicious, fresh and creative (try the incredible "Cowboy Roll") and at our servers (dead-on) recommendation we paired it with sparkling sake. For entrees we had their signature Chilean sea bass, which was grilled perfectly and served with a great dipping sauce, and the Vietnamese "shaking beef". We ate so much that we barely had room for dessert and split two flavors of the house-made Japanese ice cream (green tea and strawberry). Throughout the meal my wife and I remarked to one another that Steel must be one of the best kept secrets on the Atlanta dining scene and we plan to return often. I also noted that it would be an excellent place to host an upscale business dinner because the atmosphere is very cool (plus they have a private dining area) but the prices are noticeably fair. They also have a very solid wine list with good offerings at all price points.

We were excited to try Steel, because its within walking distance from our condo. We are closer to Ra Sushi, but were not to fond of large chains. Service was okay. Food was horrible. My husband loves raw scallops which is one of the main reasons we went to Steel. We noticed that despite ordering scallops he was given raw white fish cut to the shape of a scallops. We know this not only because of the taste, but also because of the color and the fact they had scales. Scallops do not have scales. The restaurant attempted to "trick" us into thinking we were getting scallops. I got a sushi roll and the tuna tower. Something did not taste right about it. The food was not only bland, but did not taste fresh. It was expensive for the quality of food. We normally spend the same amount at any other good sushi restaurant, but due to the quality we were disappointed. We walked back home and as soon as we got inside my husband had to throw up. An hour later, I also got sick. We ended up getting food poising from the restaurant which lasted until the next day. Obviously we will not be going back. Were not the biggest fan of RA either, but at least we dont get food poisoning from them.

The interior of the restaurant is very classy and modern and I really enjoyed my food (would definitely recommend the Honey Teriyaki Salmon!). However, my boyfriend ordered the Sea Salt Chicken and really did not enjoy it - it was extremely spicy, even though in the description it did not say at all that it would be spicy. Also, the dinner prices are a little steep for what we got. But my biggest issue is that when we were first seated, we were charged for an appetizer without even realizing we had ordered it. At the start of our meal, the waiter asked if we wanted some edamame while we were waiting for our dinner - the way he phrased it made it seem as if it was the restaurants equivalent for bread i.e. it would be free. Turns out that we had just "ordered" the edamame appetizer and so we were charged $6 for it. We were not appreciative of that at all!

We came on a Wednesday around 6:30 for their half off sushi special. There were max 7-8 other tables in the whole place when we arrived (I counted) so it was pretty empty, making it perplexing how we waited OVER an hour and 15 minutes to get our food. Ive never seen sushi take so long. Our waitress said that "Its always like this on Wednesdays because everyone orders all at once" -- is that an excuse? As the time passed slowly, she seemed to care less that we had been waiting an hour plus and we were starving. She avoided our table until we finally found her and complained so she offered to bring us some edamame. My salmon was dry and the Thai Brussel sprouts werent good either - kind of undercooked. My boyfriend said his sushi was good, but definitely not worth the wait.
