Udontastic! Im a sucker for Japanese food. My childhood home was decorated with an assemblage of Japanese-related art and reading. (My father was a martial arts teacher & had a soft spot for Kendo.) When my father got his first college degree, I remember going to the only Japanese restaurant in Cincinnati in the 80s - The Samurai - but I dont remember the food. The Samurai was a Japanese hibachi grill & before we could eat, my grilled both her hands on the table. We made a rush trip to the emergency room. But the allure of Japanese food stuck, and the mystique grew. I learned to love buckwheat noodles. Shabu shabu was my go to birthday dinner when I lived somewhere I could get shabu shabu. Sushi is my friend. So when my Lisa told me that a Japanese restaurant opened in Dent, less than 5 minutes from my mother-in-laws house, I was thrilled. Heres the rundown: sushi is good and standard. The dumplings and the shumai are both must haves, particularly if youre dining on a cold evening; the noodly, porky goodness is perfect to take the chill from ones bones. But the udon is where its at. My Lisa believe that they make their udon in house & I dont know if thats the case, but the noodles taste like theyre made homemade. They are plump and flavorful, without losing their chew. The sauce is light enough so as to not detract from the noodles & the vegetables arent at all mushy. The only downsides to the restaurant that I could see was that the TV over their sushi bar was distracting & they didnt have buckwheat noodles. Small things, and enough to take them from a 5 star to a 4 star in my opinion, but piddling things. You should go here. If youre in Dent (And why wouldnt you be?) this is the place to go. They even have mochi.

Love screaming children, inaccurate prices and poor service? Got the perfect place for you! Service was terrible. Waitress clearly wasnt in the mood for customers. There were two small children who clearly belonged to the chef and waitress were loudly yelling and riding bikes around our table while we were eating. The entire time. When mentioned to chef by other customers he gave an apologetic look but did nothing. Oddly the food was alright. After we checked out (had to find the register because our server had disappeared 20 minutes prior) we noticed the bill was a lot higher than we anticipated. Evidently they updated their prices on the register but not their menus. We had a FIVE DOLLAR UPCHARGE on just one item with several others between $1-$2... So a +$10 difference in total. When we went back and asked why we were charged so much (despite showing listed price on menu) the chef just shrugged and said the register was the right amount. I get that this is clearly a family run establishment but dont punish your customers with awful experiences!

The food is very high quality & the prices are what youd expect for this type of food. Sushi Chef is very good & while we havent tried even half of the dinner menu weve been very happy with the entrees weve ordered. Theyre kind of hidden from the road & have a smallish dining area inside as well as a proper sit down sushi bar. Best thing about this place is the whole menu is available for carryout & it is just as good in presentation and taste as if you were eating there. Very happy to have found them. Small family business run by very nice people!

This place used to be my absolute favorite. Their fried rice is so fresh and amazing as was everything else. The last 5 times my food had declined greatly. 3 times of rubber sweet n sour chicken. Then subpar dried pad tai, lastly, rubber kung pao. I dont know what happened to this place but I really hope they step it back up. Ive reccomended them to so many and it WAS the only place I used to eat chinease. Theyre more expensive, but they used to be worth it. 4 of my family members have also noticed the decline.

Excellent food, atmosphere, and service, however, super overpriced!! The bill was $80 only for sushi !! I believe i could have ordered the exact same amount of sushi at dancing roll and the bill would have been less than half the price. Next time i want sushi, im going to the dancing roll in hyde park or west chester.

Worst sunday morning sushi roll I have tasted. Was made with TUNA and cream cheese and they charge $10.95 for 1 roll. Way over priced and not anything close to the normal Sunday morning made with crab. I will never go back. Very disappointed.

Good quality ingredients, fair prices. The lady was a bit off putting, kind of slammed our plates down and left, but at the same time was prompt with refills. Definitely willing to try again, she might have just been having a rough day.

Best sushi on the west side. Prices are reasonable. Owners are super nice and friendly. They also have a traditional Chinese menu if you are not a sushi person. Try them out!

This is my goto sushi place in Cincinnati. The fish is fresh. I recommend a Cincy Roll or a Seshi roll. If I feel like fresh Sushi, this is the best in Cincinnati!

The noodles are great, but just a little overkill on the onions. Its a tad bit messy and the sushi bar is uber cluttered. The place needs a good scrub down.
