I went to this Chinese restaurant for lunch (11:45am). Indeed, it reminded me of a restaurant in China. I lived there for 6 years. I walked in and it was very dark - no lights turned on. No customers. I saw a girl sitting at a table in the back, so I asked her if she worked there. She was busy playing on her phone so she didnt notice me come in; I startled her. They dont greet guests. She said "yea, I work here". I asked are you open? She said yes. I asked why is it so dark in here? She said the owner keeps it like that. I said thats bizarre. She then told me to sit wherever I want. I started to take a seat at a booth but the seat was ripped with large pieces missing. I looked at another table; same problem, then another. I found all of the booths/tables were ripped to pieces. At that time a man came out from the kitchen and I said all of your booths are ripped. He said, yes, I cant find anyone to replace them. I thought to myself what a bogus excuse. Theyre trying to save money. A Chinese trait. I asked are you the owner. He said "I am manager". I said no wonder there are no customers here. Look at this place - dark, ragged...Im afraid to eat here! Both the girl sitting at the table and the manager just continued to play on their phones without concern or interest in hearing anything I had to say. Needless to say, I walked out without eating anything. I had eaten here often from 2000 until 2005 but its different owners now. Theyve Chinesed the place so badly and its obvious in the condition, hygiene and service of the restaurant. You can tell theyre trying to cut corners to save money. I dare not eat here now. I know how Chinese are about quality - they dont care! Everything is about money! The New Red Pepper is nothing more than an old rotten pepper now because the owner(s) dont give a damn about food or service. Its all about the Benjamins. PS. Theyve had the same tacky signs on doors and windows since 2000. This place needs a health and hygiene inspection.

I am very sad to be giving this a low rating. I used to love going to Red Pepper for inexpensive but good food, but now theyre the "new" Red Pepper (I guess theyve changed ownership) and new must mean terrible. Their pad thai is not as good, the sweet and sour chicken is now basically what youd get at a food court (no vegetables or pineapple now!), their fried rice is blah, and their eggrolls are downright awful. They used to have, in my opinion, the best eggrolls around Cincinnati. The only thing that has not changed much are their crab rangoons, but while they are still delicious, they are now TINY, about half the size of any Ive ever seen. I am extremely disappointed, because this was one of the few decent chinese restaurants around. I know its not authentic chinese, not even close, but I also dont want to eat stuff that is what youd find in a mall. Such a huge step down from what they used to be. If you used to be a regular, dont bother going back. If you need chinese in Clifton, might as well just stick to King Wok... Also I dont know what is up with their service, now. It used to be very good with a friendly and professional wait staff, but it took us about 30 minutes to get our bill because our waitress was sitting in a nearby booth with her back to us and playing with her phone. Also the manager (I guess he was the manager) did nothing but yell at the girls working there.

Ive been going here for quite a few years and still think its the best cheap chinese in cincinnati. Like most cheap chinese places, you typically get what you pay for, but this place is tasty enough I keep coming back when Im on a budget. Pros: The Hot and Sour soup is probably the best rendition Ive tasted. The fried rice is tasty and isnt that awful dry premade crap with peas in it most places serve up. General Tsos chicken is also well breaded and crispy fried, with a good spicy tangy sauce. A lunch or dinner special menu is around 5-6 bucks and covers all the typical favorites with a decent size entree portion. Also comes with a soup, fried cheese wontons & choice of rice which is a good deal these days. The inside is subdued and relaxing. Go sit down and grab yourself a bottle of sake or a Tsingtao beer and take a load off. Just dont expect lightning quick service. Cons: Consistency can vary(sometimes watered down soups and sauces). Like most chinese, its not very good delivered. Cant comment on the lo mein/noodle dishes but friends claim its nothing to write home about. They nickel and dime you like crazy for carry out/delivery. The Lady running the register will give you a huge container of sweet/sour sauce and charge you for it unless you actually specify you want a smaller side of sauce with your one little egg roll. lol.

I always loved this place while my friends hated it because i loved their jalapeno chicken. But today i got some lo mein off the lunch menu and it came on a tiny plate with half fried rice and half lomein, with an egg roll on top of it. Then he told me that you always get rice with lunch specials... Then he should have asked me if i wanted fried rice or plain rice right? The spring roll was just placed on the plate, didnt come with a sauce. The taste of lo mein was ok and the fried rice was tasteless.

I left a really good review before because we never had a problem. Well we placed an order for our lunch break and took over an 120 mins to deliver our food. Which we didnt get to eat and if we had, the food was soggy and nasty. I asked if the owner would please call me and never did. Instead they wanted to give me 20% off for a $43 meal that we didnt get to eat! LoL poor management and staff! You should be ashamed of yourself!

Food came quickly but I will never order it again. I got the sweet and sour chicken lunch special. The fried rice was plain and had a weird "old" taste to it. And my chicken was over fried and tasted like the grease was really dirty, even the doughnuts that were deepfried had the same gross taste. My co-workers agree. Ew, never again.

Ive probably been to more chinese restaurants in Cincinnati than most critics. This is a mediocre restaurant. Small portions and very bland food. Ive never sat down in the restaurant so maybe its better, but carryout is awful. A much better restaurant is right across the street at King Wok. Much better quality and portions.

1st rate food! Best weve had since we left Washington, D.C. Singapore Mei Fun (street noodles) had heat and werent greasy like most places. Szechuan green beans were absolutely the best Ive ever had -- crispy, just a tiny bit of char, and spicy!! Great and quick service at lunch. Will eat here again.

First time, last time ordering. Took an hour for the food to get here. Driver was BEYOND rude and nasty. Called the store to address issues about driver and they acted as if it was no big deal. NEVER again. Ill stick with pizza or another place for Chinese food.
