My wife and I received a gift card for Christmas to go here. We typically prefer to go to more unique craft eateries, so we werent expecting to be impressed since this is somewhat of a chain. We were pleasantly surprised. My wife ordered the Hemingway and a bowl of clam chowder. I not being a huge tilapia fan, found her dish to be quite delicious and the clam chowder was spot on. Im a burger junkie myself, so I had the Gastropub Burger. The burger was excellent. The meat patty was nicely seasoned with a perfectly seared crust, a generous amount of melty gruyere cheese and a fresh toasted bun. The fries were great, but they are not the hand-cut fries, that are made in-house, that I typically enjoy with a real Gastropub Burger. The service was great, and the owner stopped by to check on us and boxed up the leftovers. An overall great experience!

Village Tavern was fantastic and our waitress could not have been more friendly. She told us she has worked at the Tavern for 16 years and she was really wonderful. We did not know what to expect and the patio lights were very inviting on a Friday night for dinner. The restaurant was packed and we knew it was popular with the locals from Winston-Salem. We had a cozy table and I had the meatloaf with gravy and my mom had the terriyaki salmom. Both of our dishes were phenomenal and the starter bread tasted like something from Thanksgiving. There are local beers on tap and the wine list was also very good. The portions were plentiful and I can see why this restaurant has expanded all over and even gone overseas. I highly recommend stopping in after a day at the Reynolda House or while in town for football at Wake Forest.

Awesome service. Great atmosphere. But I had stomach cramps and other unmentionables after eating here with my daughter on her birthday on 12/30. This was the only thing I had to eat that day so the process of elimination was easy. In fairness my daughter didnt get sick but I did and I am still sick and its 1/01/2016. I ate the burger on Brioche bun with fries and felt strangely uncomfortable all the way home. Thought I was just full. But the full, bloated feeling never went away. I was up sweating all night. The next day cramps, no appetite, diarrhea. 2 days later still no appetite, cramps, weakness and ...well you know. I am writing this review in hopes that if someone else ate there that day and had the same thing happen I will have confirmation. Cant take the chance eating there again.

Highly disappointed in the quality and quantity of food. . We took some friends there who had never been there before and will most likely never go again. The caprese salad consisted of giant pieces of tomatoes and two tiny pieces of mozzarella cheese. I wouldve sent it back and not paid for it except that we were with some friends and I did not want to make a big deal . The crab dip which we were bragging on to our friends was highly disappointing. I was embarrassed to take them there I hate that because they are new to the city and Im not sure that theyll ever go there I hope that you guys will up your quality of food ASAP.

Have always enjoyed eating at Village Tavern, but after a recent trip (1/1/16) with my parents, wife, brother and his girlfriend, four of us ended up with various stomach ailments that pointed back to our meal here. The four of us either had beef or chicken. I did speak with a manager who was nice and said he would speak with the executive chef to resolve the issue. Appears this was a recent issue on 12/30 as well from the previous reviewer. While I appreciate the managers willingness to resolve the issue, we will not be making a return trip for quite a few months until we are sure the issue is resolved.

Excellent Service, Fantastic Food. Our server Liz was The absolout BEST. She knew what we wanted before we even asked. Really top notch. She was like a Jedi Master Server. Auntys Shrimp tacos flavors were distinct and delicate. The Hemingway with talipa in white wine sauce and capers transported my cousin to heaven helped along by a lovely Chardonnay. My Tavern Salad was filling and enjoyable although the grilled chicken was a little over cooked. All in all a great dining experience. We will be back with friends and family! Thanks again to Liz.

Service was outstanding. Attentive but not overbearing. Two managers checked on us and both the hostess and another server refreshed our drinks. The meal was excellent. Hot crab dip was just ok, I am from Maryland so not up to my standards but ok. The Salmon Hemingway and the Delmonico Rib Eye were outstanding. The rib eye was the best steak I have ever had and my wife said the salmon was one of the best she has ever had. We will definitely be back.

Their positive stars are from friends and family. I posted the truth. Its a pretencious establishment. If I could give them negative stars I would. Want to be judged? Youve found the place. Want to pay more than you should for sub par food? Youve found the place. You cant go anywhere else and be judged more. We will never go back. Judgmental butt wipes.

Not impressed. My waiter was under trained about what was and was not on the menu. Then the manager came out and insulted her own servers. Then I had to settled for and OUTRAGEOUSLY over-priced burger that took FOREVER! Fourteen dollars for a burger with some bacon that was at best mediocre. Not really happy with the service or food I received...

An up scale location in the historic Moravian settlement of Old Salem. Very good food, friendly staff. Come early as it fills quickly at lunch time. Inside can be quite noisy. There is covered and enclosed, comfortable outdoor seating - if you bring children thats the better seating option (more room and much less noise).

Like a number of the other people in this thread, I have always loved the Tavern, enjoyed the great service and friendly people. However, I have also become quite ill (stomach) after eating there the past two times this month. I am wondering what is going on....since it seems to be a theme emerging.

My wife and I at lunch at the Village Tavern today, it was wonderful. My wife had the She crab soup and a Caesar salad. I had the Meatloaf. They were both excellent. For dessert we had the Carrot Cake, it was awesome. Make sure you have time to eat and get there early. It was very busy.

Excellent food , friendly staff and cool atmosphere for a somewhat stuffy area. Kind of gives you a little bit of a Chicago possibly New York city vibe.....just a very small bit. Everything I ordered was far better than expected and will definitely be returning.

Village Tavern was delicious! There was a bit of a wait, but once we got our table, we were greeted and served very quickly. I got the blackened chicken alfredo and my date got the chicken marsala. Both were well prepared and cooked to perfection.

The Village Tavern has excellent food and service, with extensive menu choices, in a very comfortable and welcoming ambience. My family and I have thoroughly enjoyed the restaurant on many occasions, and I highly recommend it!
