My wife and I have always gotten the fried selections at this restaurant, though we try to minimize fried foods in out diet. The portions are huge and delicious, even shared. The last visit we decided to go for the broiled. My wife is highly allergic to strong spices like the ones in Old Bay Seasoning. When our first order came out, it was loaded with the "Old Bay" even though it says broiled. I took it back up and the manager put in another order even though it was close to closing time. He came back to our table and offered extra desserts because of the inconvenience. He came back a little later and brought a side salad, and apologized that the staff had made it exactly the same way, and he was going to personally, cook this one, which he did and it was excellent, with just butter and season salt. He went above and beyond to save long term, frequent customers, and I and my wife appreciate this as we run a small business on the side, and strive to provide optimal customer service as this. We have had steamed crab legs and shrimp come out at another high rated seafood restaurant, in the OBX, covered in Old Bay Seasoning, with no apology, no adjustment in the bill, and only an offer to rinse the Old Bay Seasoning off. This is a little too late, with your tongue being on fire already. Thank again for the wonderful service.

I have eaten at the Farmers Market Seafood Restaurant several times but this last time was really a bad experience. While the amount was generous as usual, the quality was so poor we were shocked. The fries were soggy, greasy and falling apart....we suspect they along with some of our fish had been left over from lunch and reheated in the deep-fat fryers for folks coming in before dinnertime. We were there about 4 pm and it wasnt busy. Some of the fish was also soggy and had the warmed over taste and texture. The hushpuppies were lukewarm....actually my whole plate was lukewarm unlike most of the time when it is piping hot except for the slaw. The couple of folks in our group who got shrimp stated their shellfish was cooked very well. The tea always tastes soured as if it new tea is continually poured into the container with the old and the container is never cleaned. Sweet tea in the south should be a an absolute given! Stop warming up leftover food and fix the tea problem. I dont care about the lack of ambience or fancy tables. Good food and drink is your claim to fame.

I dont like to drown my seafood in substandard tartar and cocktail sauces. Im of the seemingly rare breed that likes to enjoy the subtle flavors of the food. Here, food is average. Completely flavorless scallops and catfish. Very small and thin catfish fillets, 2 in the pick 3 platter. No seasoning at all on the fried oysters. Ive literally never tasted such a flavorless batter. However, the mild flavor of the oysters shone through, so theyre okay with good tartar sauce (NOT their tartar). Home fries were undercooked, hard, and DRY - we had to flash fry them at home to make them palatable. Worker didnt know how many pieces of fish came with the combo fried platters that day (as in he inadvertently told us one thing, but we got something else). Even still, theres only a $1.50 up charge per item for adding oysters (or scallops) to a platter, so as long as you dont expect seasoned food, the oysters are indeed cooked well. Prices are okay for a quick fix, just dont expect delicious, flavorful food. Still searching for that perfect fried seafood spot.

I was a bit disappointed, with the seafood, I got broiled platters,to go, Besides being greasy, the flounder was not cooked all the way, so 10 minutes in the toaster over took care of that, the jumbo shrimp was the size of medium shrimp, and the scallops are fake, some sort of shark or stingray, the coleslaw was in the take out box with the hot food, and I do not enjoy a hot slaw, so maybe I should have ordered all calabash style for my first time eating from here, but in the future, I will not be going to N.C. Seafood Restaurant, because for the price, I feel I can get a better meal at Capt. Stanleys or take my $40.00 and buy fresh and fix it myself at the house, at least I will know my scallops are not fake, and the jumbo shrimp are truly jumbo.

Been here quite a few times. Im from Cape Hatteras originally and have eaten seafood a lot. Ive never been very impressed with what comes on a plate here, but I do return now and again when I really start craving seafood and cant get to the coast for a visit. There are some better seafood restaurants around in Raleigh, but this place generally is a good band for your buck. I got the crab cakes last time I was there and have never been so disappointed in a crab cake before. I wasnt expecting much -- it is not like I had the expectations of having lump meat or anything. I just honestly couldnt find a *single* bit of crab in any of the three fried bread crumb cakes they gave me instead.

ThIs place is ridiculous when it comes to portion size! Today I paid $16.79 for catfish and oyster. I got one small catfish cut in half (making it appear to be 2 fish). The fish was not as big as the palm of my hand and when I went back to complain, the owner was rude! They load your plate with huge fried potatoes to make it appear massive but the portion of seafood is extremely small! One small fish cut in half for $17.00 and 10 small oysters. Well, one thing for sure the owners are getting rich selling potatoes! I wish I had taken a picture to prove this review. How we are deceive by rice and potatoes in America and somebody knows it!

Oh my...where do I start? First time here and last. Hot as ever in here first of all and overcrowded. I heard how great the food was and we couldnt wait to try for ourselves. Very very disappointed. They do give you enough food for 3 people when ordering a large, but the shrimp were so small you really needed a spoon instead of a fork to eat them. I believe broken cornflake pieces are bigger. The hushpuppies are good. The home fries could have been cooked longer and the cole slaw looked old and didnt have a good flavor to it. I wouldnt recommend this place to my friends and family, but thats just my opinion.

If you dont know anything about seafood and how it should taste, then go here - you will be pleased. But if you HAVE eaten some good seafood in your life and know how a good crabcake should taste or the best texture for a scallop, then skip this place. If I had a teaspoon of crabmeat in my crabcake I would be shocked Most everything is fried here -- which masks the taste of good seafood anyway. For the value, definitely not worth it. VERY disappointing!!! I will wait to visit the outer banks when I want some REAL seafood.

Great place, great value, cant beat it for the price. If you are looking for a five star zagat rated meal and service you, like some of the other raters will be severely disappointed. Its counter service at the farmers market, not the Waldorf. The fish comes in daily, you can watch it come off the truck. They fry or broil it for you and serve it in styrofoam take out trays with plastic forks. Its a good meal for a fair price and I think the people who work there are nice. They try to serve everyone as fast as they can
