The family and I just returned from a week trip to the Asheville area. We are from New Orleans and know what good food tastes like. While on the trip, one of the many places we bought something to eat was from The Green Sage Coffeehouse and Café in Asheville. My wife and the mother-in-law both eat gluten free items and there are some GF items on The Green Sages menu. Unfortunately, this was the worst dinning experience we had the entire trip. The reasons are multiple: The first reason is that I ordered a Chicken Coconut Curry Burrito. The burrito was served to me without the chicken. When I brought it to the cooks attention, he offered to give me a side a chicken... really? After I hesitated on the offer, he then offered to give me a new burrito. When I received the second burrito, it had rock hard rice, like they scraped the rice from the bottom of a pan, in the burrito which made it uneditable. Furthermore, when I went to put salt on the first burrito, before I noticed the chx problem, I reached for the marked salt container and unfortunately, it container pepper. When my father in law brought the pepper in the wrong container to the staff, the staff blew it off by saying they reuse containers. Yea, that is fine, but please but salt and not pepper in a marked salt container. What made the matter more confusing is that there was another marked pepper container on the table, so the table had two peppers and no salt. (apparently, even the staff did not know the difference). Lastly, my wifes gf bun that was ordered and served on her hamburger was old and dry. When she cut her burger in half the bun basically fell apart. I dont know if the owner is busy with the new Green Sage South and is not paying attention to the one is Asheville but without some new management I will not be eating there again.

After transitioning to a vegan diet I found green sage to be a savior for me. I am a chef downtown, working around 14 hours a day, 6 days a week, it is important that I can grab something for myself to keep me going. The food is okay, it does the job, but it certainly isnt laughing seed. However, the smoothies always hit the spot. For about two weeks I was eating there consistently, and buying at least 2 smoothies a day between my husband and myself. In one week I had spent over $200 there. Sadly, I am extremely allegeric to strawberries. Most of the time I didnt have a problem getting a smoothie without strawberries, but it depended on who took my order. Some people would develop the worst attitude over it, while others were delightful and ready to make a customer happy! The last time I went in I was told they had changed their policy to no substitutions for the smoothies, and refused to make me the smoothie I always get. There is one or two on the menu without strawberries, but I do not care for the flavor profiles of either of those choices. I left without my smoothie or food, and havent been back since. I have shared my experience with several people as I find it absolutely ludicrous to not accommodate allergies, probably because I accommodate them everyday. What made me finally write a review was this morning a reservation popped up for brunch with a gluten allergy, so what did I do? I jumped in the car 20 mins before we opened and went to the store to get GF bread- because we may not carry it or keep it in stock, but Ill be damned if someone is going to walk away unsatisfied or worse.....

Id been camping a while, a bit miserably in all the rain, so I wanted to get into town for a solid breakfast, a sort of pick-me-up. I got myself cleaned up and after driving around Asheville, stopped in here. Seemed like itd be a cool place. Unfortunately, the waitress literally threw that solid breakfast Id ordered all over me. Accident or not, she ruined my favorite shirt and some nice blue jeans with the purple jam that splashed liberally on them. The egg yolks didnt do me any favors either. She was apologetic, which was nice and all, but was I offered a free breakfast, or some coupons, or anything at all? Nope. The waitstaff avoided my table the rest of the time I was there, and I had to not only go spend more money at a laundromat, which didnt clean the stains out, but now Im out a shirt and jeans. Pretty expensive breakfast, Id say, and it really wasnt all that great of a meal anyways, when the second one came out. Kinda greasy, even for a plate of eggs and sausage, wouldnt have rated it higher than a 3 even without the above fiasco.

Honestly the worst food in Asheville. Ive tried giving this place SO many chances over the past 3 years, and its just always nasty. The coffee is acidic, smoothies have terrible combinations or just taste bad, and all the food is inconsistent and tastes awful. Bad combinations of ingredients and sauces/seasonings, undercooked fries, weird ratios of ingredients... They also have poor options for vegetarians - undercooked tofu, hummus on everything, bread that falls apart, warm smoothies... just generally bad. Every dish Ive tried getting multiple times has ALWAYS been different, and theyre all bad in some new way. On top of all of this, the pricing is high and portions are small. There isnt anything here I enjoy eating anymore. I dont know, just make a taco salad or something and dont screw up the beans somehow. Its not that hard? :(

Cold (hot) food! This is a first after coming here many times: cold food! The breakfast burrito looked delicious on the menu, however it was served cold. Even the eggs! The American cheese was not even melted to the eggs! The black beans and sweet potatoes as well as the tomatoes which seemed to come right out of the fridge made the eggs tepid. Even the wrap was not heated up! Though no one was in front of me and there were 5 people scattered drinking coffee, it took over 20 minutes to get this order out. The staff is awesome and friendly here; I enjoyed hearing a couple of them curse from the kitchen while sharing gossip with the chef. I wish the food this morning was as hot as their language. I regret not going to Over Easy right down the street. Green sage: perfect for hot coffee, internet and baked goods....

I have never been here before, my boyfriend has quite a few times and he raved about them. As a first time customer and a very experienced barista myself, I am really disappointed in the service I received. The young man at the register did not smile once. I felt like I was an inconvenience to him. After I ordered and paid, he gave me a number to take to my table, assuming that they bring you your order, whether it be a drink or actual food? maybe I was wrong. When the lady brought me my drink she looked annoyed and insulted that she had to bring me my drink. Sorry for the false assumption? The banana nut bread is good. I ordered a Cafe au lait with almond milk, that tasted like water.
