This is a stereotypical highish-priced hip breakfast place. The first time I went I had a meh time, but everyone talked about it being so fantastic that I gave it a second try. While everyone in my group loves this place, I really just did not have a good experience there. They blast the A/C so much first thing in the morning that I was freezing both times I dined in. The place is shaped like a hallway for diners to sit in, and the a/c fans are pointed down into said hallway-like area, so theres not much escaping it. If you get cold easily, I suggest dining outside. We were the second group there, and there was 7 of us, which I understand is a larger group for such a small place. But I am a night shifter that wanted to eat breakfast and then go to bed so I could go back to work a few hours later. Knowing these two elements, I ordered a single pancake to eat because its a relatively quick thing. Half the people in my group did the same. People who came in far after us, parties of 4 and below, ALL had their orders taken and their food cooked and delivered before we did. People who came in 3 parties After us were already taking their food home to go. It took me slightly over 1 hour to get a single pancake, and 2 minutes to eat that pancake. I get theyre busy first thing in the morning, but when people 3-4-5 groups behind us can come in, order similar food, and receive said food, its annoying. So the whole hour I am waiting, I am freezing, and I when I finally pay for my pancake they overcharged me. The waitress said it was a glitch in their system, which I understand, but it still adds to the negative atmosphere. I basically paid someone to have a genuinely awful time. If you are tired, looking to get breakfast and not spend 2 hours doing it, this is not the place for you my friend. I didnt know any better because the first time I tried, it took a long while (did not time it that time) but not as long as this.. but similar situations of others receiving their food long before we did occurred then too. The food itself? Was quite tasty. The Strawberry buckwheat pancake had a really amazing lemon whip on it, and they had a serviceberry compote on top. I didnt have time to ask for more syrup, I was so hungry by then I didnt even feel like dressing my meal up. The last time I was there I had the croissant sandwich and, again, very tasty. No complaints about the food itself at all. The wait staff were courteous as well, and they could see many of us were annoyed that people were eating ahead of us, and tried to explain that their griddle is small and the pancakes they make are quite large. I appreciated them trying to help put us at ease that our food wasnt forgotten, but as I said before... people long behind us got sandwiches and pancakes no problem. Still, I appreciated the attempt. No complaints about the wait staff either. At the end of the day, my group REALLY loves this place and theyre quite loyal to it. I started going with them after work because they always talk about it so highly... but, I gotta be honest, I dont want to spend $7 on a single pancake after work only to have a genuinely awful atmosphere. There are lots of breakfast places around here, and while the food was great, AVL is fuuuulll of great food and Ive had much more timely service without freezing every time. I dont think its where I want to spend my money going forward. I didnt understand the hype at all. Lots of people like this place though, so if you like these hip little places, youll probably like it.

Over Easy Café is easily one of the worst restaurants in Asheville, bar none. For a breakfast and lunch restaurant (closed for dinner) they’re completely inept. My group visited on a Sunday morning and was the 3rd table seated when it opened at 9:00 am. After waiting almost an hour (50 minutes to be exact) we cancelled our order and left. Our food never came. Drink replenishment was non-existent but attitudes were aplenty from the heavily tattooed and pierced wait staff. Patrons who have marked their bodies in a similar fashion may be served faster. Here’s a hint Over Easy Café; if 50% of your business comes from breakfast you may want to think about having more than two cooks in the kitchen. You should NOT leave food sitting on the prep bar for 30 minutes. And oh, anyone (patron or public) using the bathroom walks within two feet of YOUR food waiting on the prep bar! That is repulsive. Additionally, the “artwork” for sale at Over Easy Café was comical at best. It looked as if it was completed by middle school student being forced to complete an art project they had no interest in. Amateurish papier-mâché bear masks? Seriously? Do yourself a favor, ignore Over Easy Café website’s “green and local” blah blah blah and save both your money and time. For vegan dishes or a REAL taste of Asheville there are better choices. Visit Tupelo Honey Café or Early Girl Eatery; professionally run businesses that care about you as a customer.

First of all, the food was downright amazing! Truly the best Eggs Benedict I have ever had (that is my go-to for most breakfast joints, so Ive had plenty of versions of Eggs Benedict). Oh, and cheesy potatoes werent just your regular old "cheesy potatoes." They were red potatoes and sweet potatoes with butter and seasonings and cheese all throughout the bowl! The combination of flavors and the perfectly browned potatoes could absolutely be a meal in themselves. My husband also loved his breakfast burritos, and LOVED their homemade hot sauce. The waitresses were very nice and attentive, even though we were sitting outside. They genuinely enjoyed some small talk, and we appreciated their attention. The only complaint we would have would be what the restaurant itself cannot control - its other guests. We originally sat inside, but after only a few minutes requested the table available outside. The baby crying in the back of the restaurant and the guy sitting next to us talking to a 12 year old boy about how some woman was buying him drinks at a bar the other night just didnt make for an enjoyable atmosphere. Once we were outside, however, it was perfect. We watched as the town began to wake up and get busier, and enjoyed the morning as the temperature rose and the dew disappeared. It was the only breakfast we ate out in Asheville, and it was just the experience we were looking for.

Heres the down low: the food in incredible. Its an great New York Diner in a very touristy location. Still, I have to say, the food was amazing. The Lavander French toast, out of this world, the sunburst lox - unique and tasty served warm. The service was a little slow, but it was VERY busy. You cant make reservations, but we did have a friend arrive 2 hours early to get a spot for 6. We were celebrating a birthday, and I have to say even though it was a little loud, the atmosphere was very inviting and warm. We finished our meal around Noon, and the payment process was a little slow. In the glow after our meals, and truly enjoying ourselves... were interrupted...and we were told that there was another party waiting and we would have to leave. Now, the delivery was incredibly polite, and we of course stood up and left thanked them for the good service... As we walk out and get to the sidewalk and realize that, there wasnt anyone waiting in line, there were several empty tables, not to mention several bar seats. Im not even saying Im actually upset, all in all, considering we had been sitting there for a while. But Ive just never been asked to leave a restaurant before. So - it just was a little odd, and off putting.
