I am glad we stumbled upon this place accidentally before we had a chance to read all the mixed reviews. We had the most wonderful lunch. Even though the place was empty when we walked in around 3pm on a Sunday, it filled in very quickly within 15 minutes. Some of the customers seemed like regulars which is always a good sign. The place has a very nice ambiance, waitresses are friendly, the music is quiet and the decor is simple and pleasing. Their regular menu does not have many items but the Chefs special had about 4 or 5 appetizers and 4 entrees. My husband and I shared chicken quesadilla which was very simple but good, crab cake on a bed of mango and avocado salad was moist and perfectly fried. Tuna tacos came with some green salad and warm cabbage salad which even my husband (who hates cabbage) liked. Tuna was done perfectly, a little raw in a middle, and impeccably seasoned. Since it was Sunday afternoon, they also had Sunday brunch menu so I ordered Bellini, which to my surprise, was very tasty and costed only $5. We finished our lunch by splitting mango mousse cake which was delicious. Their lattes were good too, so all in all I am happy we discovered this little gem and hope it will stay this way because we are definitely coming back. A table next to us ordered lamb shanks and Carne Asada. They both looked and smelled great, so we are planning to go back to try them soon.

WOW! You can always tell when a company has their employees go into Google and rate their restaurant with High Fake stars. HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE...There is nothing authentic about this restaurant at all. Who ever is cooking for them has absolutely no spanish culture what so ever. The servers seemed like they could care less that they are there. I paid over $60 for dinner for 2 on food that had NO TASTE! Sorry if I seem upset, I just could not believe how bad the food was, and then see 4 people give it 5 stars?? Come on now, get real. Go and waste your money at your own risk. When you pay the high bill and walk away feeling like crap (and hungry) remember me!!!

Grouper, paella, and fish tacos all yummy. I liked the guac...but it was slightly bland (which I like...less salt)...service was great....aged tequila, passion fruit, and cucumber martini all good. Stuffed plantain was different... small interior but beautiful outside patio in back. Ate under the stars with twinkling lights. I heard second hand the churros are fantastic but the flautas are not very good. Will come again $40pp drink, app, main // visited, again with a group of 6, sangria was sweet, cocktails loved, food excellent. shrimp, plaintain app delicious and huge ... guac creamy...the like chicken special was out of this world, delicious :) sit outwide!

Maizal is by far one of the very few good restaurants in Staten Island. The environment is very rustic, unique and cozy. The staff is very welcoming and friendly. Ive been here multiple times and every time I go I get the same service, they are great and they make sure that I feel like a valuable customer. The food is delicious, flavor and presentation are amazing and their drinks are the number one reason I come here. I will say its a little pricy, nothing you cant afford, it is definitely worth every penny. Really good place

To the person that commented below me w/ 1 star is out of their mind and obviously doesnt know good food. Maizal is warm, welcoming and absolutely delicious. I cant even count how many times Ive ate there and never once was there an off night. I love the specials which are always switched up every week. The drinks are amazing and the bartender always knows his stuff. Food is great. The place has the most fabulous ambience and I highly recommend this place. I go once a week for almost two years and still cant get enough.

I disliked it mostly because the food was overpriced and NOT outstanding. My wife had the spicy pork enchiladas and was told it would be very spicy it was not and only had 3 or 4 tbsp of meat. My paella was a soggy pile of rice with rubbery chicken, tasteless chorizo and shrimp. I would have complained but we had already had our appetizer replaced because it was cold. I would only go back for chips and salsa and

2/25/12 We couldnt get a table at Beso and we just came across Maizal while driving along Bay Street. We were hungry and GF wanted to try it so we did .We were greeted by a vey friendly hostess which gave us a warm feeling about the place. All in all we enjoyed our meals and decided that we would return here if we find ourselves in the area again. Service was a little slow and drinks a little pricey.

Intimate, rustic setting; perfect for a date night. The food is absolutely and completely amazing. Everything is well seasoned but not overwhelming so no tummy ache the next day. The sangria was perfect. We cant wait to go back for brunch. Some might think its a little pricey but I feel its well deserved; Id imagine it helps keep the quality up. Definitely a hidden treasure.

I am of latin culture and am ecstatic that there is an authentic mexican/spanish restaurant that plays great spanish music and offers awesome tequila tastings for a great price! Food was good appetizers were just ok. Empanadas were bad, guacamole needed more lime and salt. Enchiladas were great! Soup and seafood was amazingly seasoned.

Maizal has probably the best guac I have ever had in my life! All the ingredients are fresh and they make it right in front of you with a mortar & pestle. Their quesadillas are among the best, as well. Went on a busy Saturday night and was seated immediately, ordered and received our food within 20 mins. Definitely a must go!

Food was horrible and so were the drinks. It was extremely over priced. I ordered one of the lemonade drinks and a passion fruit margarita. Then for dinner I had ordered medium rare skirt steak quesadilla, the steak came out salty, over cooked, and burned.

Great Mexican food. A bit expensive. The artesian drinks are great . Guacamole made fresh in front of you is delicious. But expensive. The dishes are moderately sized. We needed an appetizer to fill up. The flan is great. I recommend this restaurant

Very goodfood but too loud people behind us made it not coming back. Management did not care for telling two guys basically to respect others who were trying to enjoy their dinner.

Service was awesome but price wise too expensive for a Mexican joint One person dinner with a appetizer,an entree and a glass of sangria bill was $45 I find it a bit expensive
