We came in on a Sunday night during a major soccer game in the American Cup. That excuse, plus the free tres leches cake they gave us apologetically, is what bumps this up from 2 stars. I was ready for a long wait after reading the Yelp reviews, but I got pretty hangry as we waited 30+ minutes for our app. Eventually someone (a manager?) came out to ask if wed gotten it, and when we confirmed we hadnt, it magically appeared. We also had to ask for silverware, and for drinks refills (repeatedly). No one asked how we were doing or updated us on the wait for food. When it was time to pay, everyone was paying attention to the game, but thats not something that I hold against them under these specific circumstances. I think we ordered poorly, because I was really underwhelmed by everything. We ordered a clam appetizer, which seemed like it was probably from Costcos frozen section. It was really unappetizing but we were so hungry. Boyfriend felt kinda crummy today and wondered if it was related... thats how iffy it was. For mains, we ordered tacos and flautas. The fish tacos were bland and mediocre. Then they brought us fajitas, because they misunderstood when we ordered apparently. There was some huddled communication among the servers, and the manager came over to apologize. He said he would rush the kitchen to replace our order, which we agreed to. So they took away the fajitas and brought flautas, which were fine. Exactly what one would expect. When it was time to pay, they gave us the tres leches as an apology for the wrong order confusion. Overall, I had really high hopes for this place and maybe thats why I was so disappointed. Someone had recommended this place to us as "the best traditional Mexican food in the area," but this is not someplace that I would go out of my way to visit again. Nothing struck me as especially flavorful or fresh, and though I was blown away by the portions of things ordered by the people around us, I thought that what we ordered was not an especially great deal for the cost.

I love Mexican taquerias; I have no clue why they arent more prevalent in the NY metro area given the Mexican population. El Aguila Dorada looks somewhat similar to a Mexican restaurant upstate my family visits upstate (Cancun Inn) due to its 2 room setup, but thankfully the food is much better. Horchata was pretty good, although I prefer mine sans ice cubes. Service was from a member of the owning family, and as youd expect it was very good. The tortilla chips that came out were freshly made and tasty, and went well with a tangy tomato-based salsa. I was a bit disappointed by the salsa verde, which while spicy was very basic otherwise. Of all 3 salsas, the red chipotle salsa was the best; while it couldve been spicier, there was a depth of flavor that wasnt present in the salsa verde. I ordered the shrimp tacos, which included the 3 tacos with a hearty helping of baby shrimp on homemade tortillas, along with pico de gallo. These tacos were pretty tremendous. The tortillas were among the best Ive had on this coast. The shrimp were good, as was the pico de gallo. A grilled scallion, radish, and a piece of cactus came on the side; the former 2 are typical at authentic taquerias like this, and the cactus was a nice touch even if it was just alright. As a whole, this was pretty damn good lunch that scratched my itch for great Mexican food. Youre lucky if you live by this place. I want to go back and try some of the other taco varieties.

I give one star but it deserve zero stars. I know this place and the food is pretty good. Now I want out with my wife and my daughter for dinner and I ordered a cocktail. I did not like it and I request to change the drink with on other one. THEY TOLD US THAT ONVE YOU ORDER SOMETHING YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR IT EVENIF YOU DON T LIKE IT.I couldnt believe it. We go out in many many places and I never heard of a manager telling me that you can t chage a drink or a dish if you DON t like it. Be aware of this place. I had to pay $8.50 for a bad drink that I did not even drink it. I worked in the restaurant business and I never heard of a place that will not change the food or the drink it the costumer is not happy with it. I live in Bayonne and I will make sure that everybody will know about this garbage place. This is unacceptable for restaurant. The food is good but I will never go back. THEY SHOULD HAVE A SIGH TNERE THAT ONCE YOU ORDER SOMETHIMG YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR IT EVEN IF THE BARTENDER MAKES A BAD DRINK. Shame on you guys

As much as it irks me to give such a poor review, I will be completely honest. Ive come here at least ten times, and the first six or seven times was really great and worth mentioning. Unfortunately, these last three visits (including the last one) have been upsetting and questionable. The food —excellent, no complaints at all. The service (and wait time)—abysmal. Ive come in with my family, and a couple would come in a few minutes after us and they would get their food first, while my family and I are still waiting for a miracle, which is unacceptable considering that I spend around $100 (if not more) with every other visit. This was the last time that I go back there. Its a shame really, because the food and atmosphere is good, but the service? Much much much improvement is needed, and its not like I dont tip well or something like that, I always give about $15 and up—thats a lot than most people leave at this place and that is fact.

Dont be intimidated by the location or exterior of this restaurant, trust me. The inside is way better and the food is absolutely great and affordable. For less than $9, you can get three large chicken tacos, lots of salsa verde, and a side of grilled onions and cactus. Absolutely worth every penny. This isnt the greasy cheesy taco youre going to get from those fake, Americanized taco joints. The taco only has chicken, cilantro and scallions. The flavors were great but I just wish there was a little bit more of a spicy kick to it. Im sure they have spicy hot sauce if you ask though!

Let me start off by saying I am a very nice and very patient person and I am not one to complain but the workers that I had this experience with were Rude! Rude! Rude! Bad customer service ! They yell and argue with customers and they do not give refunds if they make mistakes dont ever pay over the phone because if they make mistakes they will argue with you and not give you your money back for the things you did not want/order ... I will never eat or order from this Restaurant again !

Youd never guess from when you walk in based on looks alone youd be served up such a beautiful and delicious meal! The smell is infectious and the food does not disappoint. Service is extremely attentive, friendly and quick! Great recommendations from the staff. They have Wi-Fi for anyone interested in that and a small bar. I cant wait to come back with friends and family to try more of the menu. Everything I ate was so authentic, fresh and full of flavor.
