This is essentially a Greek-style diner, but serving only breakfast and lunch in a sandwich-shop storefront. Were very happy to have a place like this in the neighborhood, but now that weve been there four times, it must be concluded that the slow service is endemic to the place and not just a feature of their burn-in period. Since the meals we eat here are, almost by definition, fit in around the work day, this is not good. Weve also had to ask for missing things multiple times on all but one trip. The cooking is decent, above average for diner fare but without much in the way of signature originality. Weve tried most of the greek favorites and some standard things off the menu. The reuben and burgers are good, wraps good but quite small, salads the usual non-greenery stuff, and the greek stuff (souvlaki, etc.) is good but not wonderful. The gyros are well above average. Theyre very friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed, so if youre not in a hurry and want homey diner stuff, go ahead. If you have to get back to work, like we do, you will want to time your visits for days when you dont have to get back on time.

I ate here a couple of times. I do remember this restaurant was at one time years ago used be be a old Pizza Hut. I do remember working here when it was a Pizza Hut, which was a delivery/carryout from 1998, after when the Pizza Hut on Altamont Avenue, which was a dine-in that closed down which was a very first one that I worked at (a time when I got transfered here), to until 2009, (when it moved down the street), which was total of 11 years when I worked here, just at this Pizza Hut location alone. Inside of that restaurant, there are booths at one side, and tables and chairs at the other. People who own it have a Greek accent, and are friendly. The facade of this restaurant has changed a bit, and it has a outdoor patio out in front of it. When I set foot inside that restaurant (Union Cafe), everything inside there to me looked a bit familiar at the time when it was a Pizza Hut back when I was working there.

Was publicly humiliated by owner because I requested romaine lettuce in the Greek salad. She felt it was necessary to stump out to the dinning room to yell at me while I was picking up the take out order. Told me to never say to waitstaff that I would like romaine. We were good customers that came 1-2x per week and tipped well. Will never go there again. Im the customer and I was hurt and embarrassed. All but one waitress/waiters are wonderful... the one with the big backside caused the whole issue. Both my children and their family and my friends will not be going there any more either. Besides that the tables are too close, its too noisy and prices are getting too high. Days when they should have been open according to their sign and they were closed. No notice posted!

Went there with 3 other people. 2 gyros a burger and a sandwhich were ordered. We then sat and watched 3 other groups enter, order, eat, and leave before we got our food. We looked over at the counter and our food had just been sitting there. We asked about it and the waiter rudely told us "dont your think i would have brought it out by now if it was ready?" It took 45 minutes after ordering for our food to show up. And then the waiter starts arguing with us over the wait whilst making excuses for why he sucks. Ill never go back. Should have gone to gershons deli.

I was in Sunday for breakfast. The waitress charged my debit card for not only my table but another one as well. She never told me of her mistake. I realized what happened after leaving. I returned to ask and was treated like it was no big deal, was told it would be credited to my account. It is now Tuesday and I am still waiting for the "credit". I understand that mistakes happen, but based on the poor way it was handled, my still waiting for the credit, and having to be inconvenienced by all of this, I will not be returning.

My work has me on the road for most lunches so I eat at a lot of local diners. As I recently said to the owner I now find myself looking for reasons to be on Union Street at lunch time and happily recommend the spot to Friends and take friends there to eat. The staff is friendly and well trained, a waitress recently had to interrupt our conversation and actually apologized for the interruption. The food is great, the rest rooms clean. Just get there early for breakfast or lunch to make sure you get a seat.

Small dining room, so there might be a wait. We were actually seated immediately. There is outdoor seating, but it was raining this morning. Quaint cafe. Friendly staff, and super efficient. Tv to watch. Clean restrooms. Nice menu. I had super tasty fried potatoes with ham and eggs over easy. I think this was the most perfect over easy egg Ive had. Coffee was just typical cafe coffee, but good enough for a refill. The staff is what makes this cafe stand out.

The Union Cafe is a great place for lunch. My husband and I have lunch there every few weeks. He likes breakfast fare while I like the chef salad. The food is hot and delicious, and the servers are friendly and attentive. The owners are often found in the dining room greeting and seating. There is outdoor seating if you want to watch the traffic go by. It is often crowded, so timing is important to find a seat. Enjoy!

VERY impressed with this cafe. The food is absolutely delicious, and the staff is amazing. My friend and I went there during peak breakfast hours one day. The entire cafe was full! We figure that we would probably be waiting a while for our food, but it was out in about 15 minutes or less, and cooked to perfection. I absolutely love this cafe, and I am very sad that I did not get to go there more often before I moved.

Hector, the owner, is amazing. Personally shakes our hand and seats us every time we come in. Such a cute spot and I love it because they serve breakfast all day! Their breakfast items are wonderful and Ive tasted others lunch items (chicken gyro, monte cristo, reuben, etc) and it was all delicious! Also, eggplant fries? Yum. Love this place!

Stopped here for Sunday morning breakfast while visiting Schenectady. Great food, friendly staff, quick service. My wife loved her Belgian waffle ("light and fluffy") and my eggs/home fries/sausage/toast was excellent. Best breakfast sausage Ive ever had. Nice place. Can eat outdoors in good weather. Dont miss this place!

Union Cafe is a very friendly place that I can eat delicious food that is gluten free with no worries about being glutened! They have certain items on their regular menu that are clearly marked as gluten free & cooked separately. I highly recommend it if you have a gluten intolerance or Celiac.

The Irish Eggs Benedict are absolutely amazing but only served on weekends. They are a bit overpriced, and love to charge extra for things like "real" syrup vs fake processed syrup. Otherwise waitstaff is always friendly and food is always hot and good.
