Ive had Yelp for about 8 years and this is my first review ever - while I stand in the establishment. Bought a ticket for a show, great. It sounded exciting and very targeted to wine lovers right? Wrong. My seats were labeled bar stools which would have been amazing if thats what they were. But I was seated at a high top table with my guest. The table could barely fit four but was set for that amount. I doubted they would seat us here purposely to jam strangers next to us when there were plenty actual "bar stools" empty at the bar, but thats precisely what they did. So me and my guest sat while they slowly added -one stranger, two strangers and just when I thought our teeny tiny table was at capacity, a fifth chair appeared with a fifth stranger following behind. It was the honestly the most awkward thing ever. Bottom line - the food is not good, its okay. The wine on tap is what I freaked out over in excitement and it was horrible. The bathrooms were dirty and out of toilet paper. Youre coming here for the experience, its a beautiful venue. But you really better love the performer if youre here for a show because God forbid you speak. You are in so close quarters to every one around you, a woman at the bar asked me and my friend to stop talking because she heard us. You need to be a very special guest to genuinely enjoy your night here. I couldnt even converse quietly with my friend. I was so excited to come here and really wanted to love it but I am extremely disappointed. I hope they can consider their seating arrangements properly and allow people to enjoy their night out without feeling they must be warped into the on stage performance.

All the usual diner fare, with some fancy extras like espresso/cappuccino etc. Had breakfast here with a friend, at about 9:30am so not during the real rush. Place was busy but not crowded, was scrupulously clean, offered copious refills of coffee and water, and otherwise left us alone and let us sit there and chat for about 2 hours before apologetically saying that they needed the table (which was true -- it was filling up). I had the vegetarian omelette (with onions, peppers, broccoli) and was pleasantly surprised to note that vegetables were fresh not frozen! Will definitely come here again.

Achtung: Nur Cash!

I had a very bad experience with Square Diner. A guy who works there was rude and intimidating, and I dont know for what. They even tried to rip me off when they said that items that were included in the breakfeast costed extra. I think that they try to rip off tourists, since they know they wont return. The food was also nothing to brag about. Im not the person that complains left and right, but this was truly a bad experience. Stay far away from this place.

My wife and I ate here every morning on our honeymoon trip to NYC. The food was very reasonably priced, the staff was quick and courteous, coffee refills are never ignored. All in all great service for an excellent price. The staff got to know us after a couple of days, we traveled from time square each morning to start our day there and very much looked forward to it. Part of what made us fall in love with NYC!

A decent diner squeezed in to the corner. They got all of your basics, except for grilled cheese. Why dont they have grilled cheese? Regardless I go there for soups on cold winter afternoons and get a side of mash potatoes or something. The Decor inside maintains old school diner legacy which I suppose means slightly stiff foamed bench seating with limited leg room but thats all fine, its New York!

This is a quiet but efficient and quite good neighborhood diner at the corner of Leonard where W. Broadway and Varick intersect. A very large very meaty burger and a succulent and ample Egg Salad Sandwich with very good FF. Wine and beer available as well as a wide selection of other beverages. We will certainly go again. Two sandwiches and beverages with one deluxe plate for under $20.

Spiste morgenmad der flere gange under mit 10 dage lange ophold i New York. Kan varmt anbefales, god mad, god betjening, kaffe med refill, rimelige priser, klassisk "Diner".

Anyone who gives this place less than 4 stars is full of bah-loh-ney!!! Some of the freshest produce and nicest service in NYC is at Square Diner! The food is delish and reasonably priced, and the quality matches the pretentious restaurants nearby. The ONLY place I go to in this area. Just the best diner food and service Ive ever had! So glad school is across the street XD

Its a classic dinner feel, a bit tight in terms of seating, I would not go with a big group and expect to sit together. They do however have a great cozy outdoor seating area durning nice weather which I did enjoy. The food is classic dinner, I Really enjoyed their vegetarian mushroom club sandwich. De-lish!

typical diner but the service is really good. Very nice folks, although Im pretty sure my waiter said a curse at me in his language for just ordering a coffee while my buddy got a full lunch. I get that I was a poor customer... but no need to say anything thats audible, but not understood.

Idiot waiter knocked over a glass of water all over me at lunch today. Then made a joke about it. Wet up my sweet suede shoes. Idiot didnt even apologize until later. Manager/owner said nothing except theres a puddle on the floor. Foods okay, service not so much. Youve been warned.

Cute place. Quintessential diner, serves breakfast all day. Nice staff. Only reason they dont get all 5 stars is because they dont take credit cards, but its worth the extra trouble for this place, which is as cozy on the inside as it looks on the outside.

The platonic ideal of a vintage railcar-style diner, which is why its on so many lists of the best diners in New York City. Booths and counter seats. Extensive homey menu. Friendly service. Popular with locals, which is a recommendation in itself.

Great piece of real city history in Tribeca. A refreshing change from all the trendy food spots that invaded over the past 25 years. Sit at the counter for the real experience of what diners were like in the city before the Uber Rich took over.

This is my spot for a good breakfast on summer days. Good pancakes + good service + terrace. One of my 3 favorite dinners in town. Just choose your food wisely, this is a dinner not a brunch restaurant, so dont expect the perfect eggs benedict.

Its a pretty decent place - regular diner food and the wait staff is friendly enough. Their pancakes are great though, probably the best thing on the menu - definitely worth getting. Not really recommended for a date though.

Authentic (as far as I believe) old style diner ...great friendly service. I had breakfast. .2 eggs with their home made corn beef hash. Quick on coffee refills. All Id hoped for in a New York diner experience. Recommended
