DISAPPOINTED!!! Went for the 2nd time tonight. Complete 180 degree experience from the 1st time. I guess mainly because the owner wasnt there tonight. Everything was going well for awhile until the last few members of a six-top came in. They were extremely loud to the point where I needed to ask the waitress (Yessica) to ask them to lower their voices. She winced at the request while looking over her shoulder towards the party of six and responded, "The back room is closed". I then said to her, "I didnt ask about the back room. I asked you to ask that table to lower their voices a bit please." All she did then was shrug and and walk towards the kitchen. A few minutes later, another staffer who introduced himself as the manager Jonathan, came over and said, "I was told that you and your wife wanted to be seated in the back, but unfortunately its closed right now." Once again I responded, "I never said anything of the sort. I was asking your waitress ask that table over there to lower their voices a little. We are sitting five tables away and cant hear each other because theyre too loud." Jonathan responded, "In the past when we tried that it created too much drama." My wife and I were shocked by such an unprofessional response. Lets look at that statement. Was he saying that this has happened before and he couldnt handle it as a manager? Or, were these same people asked in the past to lower their voices and they refused? The fact that he refused to do ANYTHING showed that he is either incompetent as a manager, afraid of confronting a group (3 women, 3 men), or doesnt care about every customers experience regardless of the number in the party. Considering the fact that at the time only 15 customers were in the restaurant, I would think that every single patronage would be valued As I always say, "This is New York. There is no reason EVER to beg someone to take your money for food. There are WAY too many places one can go to spend their dollars." Now onto the food...as someone who has prepared (butchered and cooked) literally tons of steaks, I was extremely disappointed at the amount of fat that was left on my T-bone steak (see 1st picture). Without exaggeration, there was at least 8 oz. of fat that I cut off my steak. Secondly, this steak had absolutely NO sear on it whatsoever!!! Same goes for the filet mignon my wife ordered. At least my cut was cooked to temperature (medium rare). Unfortunately, my wifes steak was undercooked. She ordered medium and got medium rare. The entire meal ran me $186.13 including tip. Mainly because of the lack of respect, poor service and kitchen issues, I seriously doubt I would ever return!!! I only gave one star because its the minimum in order to be able to post this review.

The food was really good, the sangria was not. They also had a live musician who was playing the guitar and singing latin songs. The music was much better than I expected for a background musician in a restaurant. But the service is why I am giving it a 5 star rating. My friend dropped her for on the ground and two waiters, literally, rushed over and tried to pick it up, as if it were a competition. When we would finish a plate, it would be bussed immediately, and we never had to ask for anything - everything was taken care of!

Food was good and tasty, nice place but the staff not very friendly, this guy was so rude when I asked for the happy hour, he didnt give me options, he was super busy talking with his friends at the bar. My friend was asking me why were they so rude. Only this nice busboy who gave us some toasted bread and smiled at us, he saved the waiters tip. Im very friendly and I always ask for averything in a nice way so I think no one deserves a bad answer. But going back to the food, I will recomend it 100%.

Great atmosphere, everything we have ever tried was delicious; Cuban sandwich, ropa vieja, ground beef stew, chicken Madera, mahi mahi and especially chicken soup. The dessert is good and the drinks are amazing! We wish it was a little less expensive so we could go more often but it's fine for special occasions, also yuca fries are great and my favorite is the skirt steak

I have a huge soft spot for this old-school Cuban place. No, its not cutting edge and the drink menu is certainly dated, but the vibe is very welcoming and neighborhoody and the food is super satisfying. This is a place to go on a first date, to take the kids after a softball game, to meet a coworker--it works for Saturday night or Tuesday afternoon or anything in between.

I have dined at Madera regularly since its opening some years ago. They never fail to meet and exceed my expectations. Excellent food, friendly, personable staff, delicious specials, great ambiance and clientele. The owners genuinely care about your experience and comfort. I have never had a bad meal there. And their desserts will rival any. Highly recommended!!

The steak with onions sauce was very good. The steak was well cooked and full of flavor. The rice and beans were average. The service was poor. Took several minutes to find a waiter to give me a seat in the half empty restaurant and several more for them to realize I needed a menu. I was halfway done with my meal by the time I got my water.

Slow service and overly salty food. Couldnt even eat half of my entree which was already a child-sized portion. Waiter forgot about our request for more bread (only asked because appetizer was ridiculously small and food took so long). Wouldnt recommend. Too expensive to be this bad on so many levels.

Decent Cuban spot in the middle of the main drag in LIC. Entrees were a little overpriced for what they were but the flavors were good. Ambiance is cozy - its a good date spot. Service was pretty good too. Overall it is a decent restaurant but has stiff competition from the other spots on the strip.

When you enter the restaurant, the music is lovely and it smells wonderful, like vanilla cuban cigar smoke. Their salad with tropical fruit, grilled chicken, and mint vinaigrette was fresh and delicious. Their french fries are terrible.

Extremely friendly bartender Andres. The mojitos are just right - not too sweet and they also come with a stick of fresh cut sugarcane that you can crunch up. Foodwise the serving sizes are not small and the taste is excellent.

This place is really nice and cozy. Great selection of Cuban food. Not crazy at all. Very comfortable with a larger back room. They have entertainment also I think on weekends. It gets hopping on Fridays.

Some dishes are hit or miss, however this place usually provides good food and excellent, strong drinks (try the classic sangria). Great environment and good service are provided as well.
