I had read many reviews, positive and negative, before dining. This is my first time dining at Rue, and I will say this : my experience was nothing but outstanding. I had a reservation at 7:30 on a Friday and was courteously welcomed, coat checked, and seated quickly. The decor was simple, yet elegant, and the lighting was cozy. There were at least 12 other diners in the room with us but it still felt intimate. We did notice that the online menu as well as the menu outside were different than the menu for the evening. To me this is not an issue at all, and in an establishment of this calibre I expected it. Our waiter/server, Andy, was very friendly and engaging. He spent time answering questions and offered great pairings of wine for our courses and appetizers. We ordered cocktails which were quality crafted and came quickly. Bread was served on small plates with home made butter. We followed this up with foie gras, seared salmon and short ribs as the entrees, and toffee pudding with coffee for dessert. All of the food was fantastic. Portion sizes were healthy and presented well. Unique flavors and foods combined with unusual textures, creating a very savory and rich French culinary experience. The foie gras was without question the dish of the evening and I cannot recommend it enough.

We read tita955s review before committing to RFW-- and should have taken it to heart. I agree in every way with the assessment. It took 10 minutes to be seated in a virtually EMPTY restaurant. The guy in charge of "seating" appeared to have great difficulty with the electronic seating chart on a monitor. (Sometimes things are just better when left to paper and pencil.) A party of three ahead of us also had this issue with the "seater". The online menu and the restaurant menu were entirely different. While perusing it, we ordered a drink--which took FOREVER to arrive. By the time the drinks DID appear, we had made reservations for dinner at another downtown establishment. WE finished our drinks, paid and promptly got up and left--never to return! At the second establishment, we were greeted with rose petals on the table and complimentary champagne as we were celebrating our 4th anniversary. The personnel seemed genuinely happy to have our patronage, unlike Rue Franklin. So, due to the snarky help--especially the "seating guy" and, a very limited menu--- we will never again return to RFW. This is very sad for sentimental reasons as it was where we had our first date, and, where we celebrated our previous three anniversaries. What on earth has happened to one of Buffalos finest restaurants? :(

The place is the most pretentious place in our blue collard town. I was so insulted when the hostess (owners) asked me if I was sure not to have dinged the "expensive" cars driven by their regular patrons. I was there for the first time, age 27, looked young Ill admit, but was driving my Volvo SUV! Food sucked, portions were small, and the value sucks. I prefer to going to Montreal and eating real French food, not Buffalo French food.

An outstanding dining experience. Had rabbit for the first time the other night. Three different waiters last three visits. Very professional. Great wine suggestions I might add. The portions may appear small to some, however I had to pass once and had all I could do finish my dainty dessert on my other two recent visits. I left full but not uncomfortably stuffed. Look forward to a visit next week. Maxx M

Rue Franklin has long been my favorite restaurant. The decor is beautiful and the food has been consistently delicious. Unfortunately, the consistency wasnt there on my recent visit. The potato bisque with wild mushrooms had a glue-like texture as if it had been pureed in a blender. The rest of the meal was excellent but when you pay as much as we did for the meal you expect every dish to be perfection.

The staff was friendly and engaging The atmosphere was authentic The patio was superb The ceviche was very tasty and did not have any hints of "fishy" flavors The wine selection was adequate The entrees were of expected size, presentation was fantastic. The entrees tasted great The peach sorbet tasted like a wonderfully ripe and sweet peach.

the staff is extremely low class and have poor manners. They ruined our night. I suggest only going to this restaurant when there is little to no one in it because the servers and bartenders are not able to handle large amounts of people at a time.

One of my all time favorite restaurants. The food and service are without compare. A touch of old world elegance and class in an increasingly rude and crass world. I cannot recommend this dining experience highly enough.

They had us wait over 1 1/2 hrs at the bar, crowded us into a table, served us sub par food and rushed us out. Safe to say this party or 8 will not be returning. The only thing colder than the atmosphere was the fiet

Excellent, sumptious food of normal portions (not gigantic "Buffalo" servings). Beautiful atmosphere. Wonderful service. The proprietor, Didi, is a force of nature and provides a warm welcome.

Nice assortment of appetizers and entrees. Relatively recent addition of 6 course tasting menu. Outstanding wine selections to go with oustanding cuisine.

"Very nice atmosphere, good food, professional service." "Bartender Noel is the rudest bartender I have ever gotten a drink from!"
