Ive been going to Lords Bakery since 1970 -- I think I was less than a year old when I toddled in for my first cookie -- and have been going back ever since! Although theres been some turnover among the staff behind the counter over the years, some of the staff has been there as long as I have. More importantly, Im guessing the baking staff has stayed relatively constant, as the cakes and cookies have been consistently great! My favorite daily items -- the black & whites, vanilla cookies with chocolate icing, and the best of all, THE CHOCOLATE BELLS!!! Imagine the best chocolate cupcake youve ever had, coat it with sweet butter cream and cover the whole thing with hard chocolate icing -- pure sugar heaven! More importantly, Ive been going into Lords to get birthday and holiday cakes for every occassion possible. From the "photocakes" with my kids pictures (they always want eat their own face -- whats with that?) to the best Red Velvet cakes in the northern U.S. Ive recently moved to Florida, and one of the things I really miss is Lords. However, I make it a point to go to Lords every time I travel up to New York -- which cant possibly be often enough. If the owner of Lords wants to move to Florida, I hope he calls me so I can tell him where to go!

I went in one day asking to order a German chocolate cake. A slim fair-complexion Black girl behind the counter told me there were no orders for that type of cake and that that flavor would be available on the day that I needed it. Strange, no? I came back 2 days later to get it only to be told assuredly by a fuller-figured Caucasian guy behind the counter that THERE WERE NONE LEFT. I was shocked and extremely upset, so I burst into tears because I obviously needed it and was told it would be there. I asked him what I was supposed to do then, and he coldly shrugged as if nothing were happening. I asked for the manager and he pointed to the other side of the counter. So this manager stood right there and did nothing despite me, a customer, bursting into tears over an issue with my request when they couldve intervened. A different girl handed me tissues to show empathy. Then someone tells the guy that they were not out of stock after all of this! He just goes, "Oh." NO APOLOGY. Nothing. I was disgusted. Despite leaving with the cake I wanted, I had a TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE at this place. The only reason I bought the cake at that point was because I had already promised it to someone. I would NEVER go back there.

My brother-in-law grew up in Brooklyn before he moved to NJ. He bought me a chocolate fudge cake with fudge frosting once 10 years ago, and I have been hooked ever since. Cant find any bakery in NJ, and I have tried so many that cant even come close to the fresh, moist rich, taste of a Lords Cake that was just made.... Jersey bakerys I find puts all their cakes that dont have to be refrigerated in cooled-refrigerated cases, so you never know if they are fresh or not, or when they were made, terrible, not to mention their double in price. we travel from NJ to Lords whenever we need a cake, love their chocolate fudge cup cakes too. Everything taste great. Special ordered Mocha cake is really good if you like Mocha. Hope they stay in business for as long as I live in the Northeast, wish they would open a place in Jersey. Highly recommend, just check out all the positive reviews....

My brother went into ask for a Heart Shaped Anniversary Cake for me and my wife for our 1st anniversary while I was waiting in car outside (busy area no parking). There were two young ladies there at the counter. One was Spanish and the other one was Black. They give him so much attitude stating: "quote on quote we only do heart shape cakes on Valentines Day." He offer to pay extra to get customized and then they started to roll their eyes.... I am not sure what kind bakery this is, but they lost $$$. We went to another Bakery and the lady at the counter was so much more helpful with zero attitude. This bakery is ghetto as fudge!!! They lost my business because I was willing to pay top dollar to get the cake I wanted but it looks like they are only looking sell stale cakes that already made...

TERRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!! They nearly killed my baby by telling me their cakes were NUT FREE ...after a reaction of a rash and hives I called back and was told they use almond paste in all cakes. I asked to speak to a manager who didnt care about her allergy and said ok he didnt mind being held accountable because he wasnt giving his name and hung up on me. Anyone who knows how life threatening and severe a nut allergy can be knows how scary this carelessness can be. They never even apologized !!! Just whatever type of attitude!!!!!! After 10 years IM NEVER GOING BACK

Truly a well kept secret! Lords is fantastic. I have been patronizing them for several years after discovering them while in college, and truly have been extremely satisfied. They did my moms birthday cake, and I absolutely love the Mocha cake- its to die for! Also the Red-Velvet cake is scrumptious, try it! Everything is well kept and clean, there is true service with a smile, and youll begin to salivate when you step in! Grab a cup of coffee and empty your mind of thoughts to prepare for a culinary trip!

Been going there since HS family owned bakery tastes really from their cakes to their currant rolls and many other baked goods. The minimum for their credit cards is really low I think its $4 which is unheard off for small business as such usually they request $7-10. I must say that my mother doesnt like their cakes but the quality is really good. I also love the fact that they hire HS students to give them an opportunity to earn something.

Do not order a cake over the phone from Lords because when you go to pick it up- they are so disorganized!!! Ive ordered from them for years and never had an issue- the one time I order over the phone its like complete disarray!!! They couldnt find the receipt, I told them exactly what the cake looked like and said!!! The one Russian lady behind the counter was extremely rude and unprofessional!!!

I went to them a couple of years ago I needed a bakery who could accommodate me because my daughter has peanut allergies which they did but to pick up the cup cakes they charged my husband more when they were paid for. I decided to give them a second chance because of the allergies but there customer service was horrible & they couldnt accomodate the allergies never again they have lost our services

Red velvety deliciousness. My roommate and I went on a mission, a fantastic dessert in Brooklyn and we were not disappointed. We got two slices, one Red Velvet cake and one death by chocolate type cake. We couldnt eat half of each between us, it was so rich and yummy The Red Velvet cake was the best Ive ever had by far. Go here and you wont be disappointed! Yum yum for your tum tum.
