Hana Japanese Steak House – Albany, NY – 7/29/2016 Another road trip… Another restaurant… Tonights dining adventures take us to Albany, NY where we would find what surprisingly turned out to be if not the best, certainly within the top three best hibachi dinners I have ever had! Service started out a little rocky as we changed grills from the first table, cleanliness not 100% up to our standards (we’re a little bit more discerning than most people that just “go out to eat”)… For me, dining is an experience to behold from ease of online booking, greeting upon arrival to seating and décor… What comes out of the kitchen needs to be top shelf and passion needs to be evident in each person we encounter… Everything has to be as close to perfect as possible… Our server was new so was off on a couple of things but honestly she tried hard and ultimately succeeded with us. Our grill master chef was one of few words but did a nice job entertaining us. Im not a big one for getting food stains on my clothing so opted out of the customary food toss and Sake fountain… Mo Saki mo happy he chanted as he squirted Saki into my friends mouthes… The fare here is somewhat more a la carts as the Salad and Miso Soup were add on extras and rather than both fried rice and fried noodles, its either one of the other. We ordered one of each and shared them both. There was certainly ample amount to enjoy both this way… The soup was good and the Salad with the ginger dressing was fabulous! You could get it served with balsamic vinaigrette if you wanted to but seriously…? Its Japanese! Save the balsamic for Italian… I usually order the filet and lobster... This meal was crazy delicious! The vegetables… Perfect!... The filet & Lobster... OMG! Cooked a perfect medium with accompanying sauces straight from the gods! The fried rice and noodles… Off the charts! Wow doesnt do it justice… For dessert we shared the fried ice cream… Vanilla ice cream surrounded by a tempura shell and then deep fried before being doused in whipped cream and chocolate sauce… Im telling you it put us into foodie nirvana! This was one incredible dinner. One our palates are likely to remember for some time to come. To say we loved it would be an understatement! If you like a dining adventure like we like dining adventures, add this to your must dine in places list. We loved it and when our bar is set higher than most, its a pretty sure bet you will love it too...

ABSOLUTELY THE WORST JAPANESE FOOD I HAVE EVER EATEN!!! Half of the wait staff does not understand English! I ordered sprite and when i asked for a refill she gave me water. Just because it looks like water that doesnt mean its water! I have eaten Japanese food all over the world so I know my flavor profiles! The hibachi grill was nothing great the portions uneven. I was surprised how blah the food was. Fried rice was nothing but egg and rice no veggies or anything. I guess its more about the presentation than the taste of the food! When we first got there we ordered sushi for 2 to take home -$55.00. An hour later when we got our check it still had not been made. We waited another 30 minutes. I specifically said nothing spicy and no salmon, well i got it anyway. I honestly have gotten sushi at the Price Chopper in Albany and it was 1/3 the price and 100% better! I dont understand how a "specialty" restaurant can make such bad food! Go to KOTOS over by the Desmond the food is awesome and the wait staff understands and speaks English!!

I always used to go to Hanas before as it was newly built and it was great. Today I went with a party of 10. first there were bugs and flies flying and dying all around us and the table and the grills. the service was horrific, the waiter could not remember to bring out stuff, to get water, etc. one of my friends completely never got his appetizer. my other friend celebrated who celebrated her birthday was rewarded with a small cake but no candle. they ran out apparently, and because it was the end of the night they were too lazy to sing her happy birthday, but they only did because she asked for it. the food from the kitchen came out cold. the bills also came out wrong, with everyone being over charged. rather than dealing with it professionaly, the waiter just gave everyone $2 cash from his tip money. when we spoke to the manager about the bugs and flies, she pretended not to speak English and not understand. I would never go back again.

We had a reservation at 7. Sat down at 730. Not a huge problem because It is new years and they seemed busy. Once sat it took 30 mins to get a drink. I was feeling neglected. Our food was good except the noodles. I looked forward to the habachi noodles and so I was disapointed to say the least. They tasted like spaghetti that had been sprayed with soy sauce. The rice on the other hand was delicious. It all went bad because of the drinks. We all had water and a couple sodas and the waitress had to be tracked down by other employees to get us refills. No one else could get us refills other then our waitress but she was no where to be found. When she finally showed up we had been talking to the manager and she half argued with the guy who lost out on his refill. The Manger gave us a $100 gift card for next time which probably wont happen. The manager and the rice are the only reason why this place gets 1 star.

This was my first time at an actual hibachi grill and my verdict about this place was that it was really good. The place was spacious and actually had that Japanese/oriental feel, because everywhere you walked, there would be some kind of Japanese artifacts. Came here with a group for a meeting, so we had a private room. I sampled some of their appetizers and it was pretty good, especially the vegetable tempura. For the main course, I had salmon with noodles cooked in teriyaki sauce and everything was cooked right in front of me. The “fire show” was very entertaining, but make sure you have your eating skills because the chef will cut a piece of cucumber and try to throw it in your mouth with the hibachi grill spatula. I wouldn’t mind going again if I had the chance.

Been there before, but not again. Had the unfortunate experience with new friends to this restaurant just last week, of being told one thing and it being retracted once we were there and then they wouldnt budge on it......they ALSO falsely advertised their happy-hour specials then wouldnt honor that either, once you arrive. Both happened in the SAME NIGHT. Some intro to Hana - huh? Be CAREFUL - they will say anything or apparently will advertise anything - just to get you in there. Food is really just mediocre its the show that can be the fun part - IF you get a good chef -but we have many hibachi restaurants around and we will never go back to Hana now......Theres nothing proprietary about them and then they renege - no thanks. Were done with them now.
