So yeah, the food is interesting. Not great, just...interesting. The "Jew Egg" (think "ramen egg inside a falafel") is a great idea, undermined by undersalting (and $15!) The okonomiyaki with pastrami is *excellent*, but $15 for a wee tiny one. The "lox bowl" (think "chirashi w/ lox-like stuff") has excellent rice, but *seriously* sub-par uni (and is $25) And the list goes on. Everything is ok to good, but around 40% more pricey than it should be In short, interesting, but not worth a second visit (or a first one, quite frankly) (Oh, excellent sake list, fwiw)

I wanted to eat Shalom Japan ever since I heard the name. Hilarious! It has a really nice atmosphere and gracious service. My favorite dishes were the teriyaki duck wings; the scallop sashimi with turnip, Asian pears and shiso; okonomiyaki with pastrami and bonito flakes. We really enjoyed the matzo ball ramen . The texture of the matzo ball was perfect. The Jew egg was nicely executed in terms of technique, but the falafel coating needed more seasoning. The tongue salad lacked the pizzazz of the other dishes.

The five star is for the jew egg, and their version of pancake... The jew egg for being unique and different, taste wise maybe not what I expected, but still not bad. Their Japanese pancake "Okonomiyaki" was so inventive, and so full of flavors, it was hitting all the right spots... From the Bonita fish flakes on top to the pastrami... I would go back just for that. Honorable mentions: Matzoh Ball Ramen with Foie Gras Dumpling, and the seared tuna.

Excellent innovative food, the fusion of the two styles doesnt seem obvious but really works. Visited there from Australia twice, was definitely a place to go back to. Good beer and interesting cocktails, atmosphere is good as well. Tiny bit out of the way from Brooklyn or Williamsburg but definitely worth seeking out.

Exceptional dining experience. Aaron Israel and Sawa Okochi have created a truly special restaurant, with a thoughtful, inventive and delicious menu executed to perfection. The drinks are stellar, the space is cozy and the service is excellent. Shalom Japan leaves you smiling and satiated all night.

We went here for our three year anniversary and the food was impeccable. Got the tasting menu which was a good cross selection of the menu and fantastic service. Made us feel super welcome and loved. Well worth the money. Chefs are awesome and very talented.

Ah-mazing. Each dish was a masterpiece in true fusion. Standout dishes were the okonomiyaki with pastrami, the duck wings, the steak tartare. You dont need the omakaze as a La carte portions are very generous. Truly a gem... Thank you Google maps for the rec!

Great service, food was delicious and presentation was delightful as well. Came here for a special occasion and ordered the tasting menu which was delicious. Will definitely be back to try even more of the menu. Drinks and sake were impressive as well.

Ive been here so many times it ridiculous. The food speaks for itself on the love the two chefs have for it and every dish is well executed but also fun. Have the okonomiyaki, Challah, and the Matzo Ball ramen and youll understand.

Delicious food and friendly service. We got the okonomiyaki and matzo ball ramen and they were both excellent. Server offered to give us extra bowls and plates to share. Low noise levels and simple yet unique decor

Creative menu splicing Jewish & Japanese fare. Beware of the up-sell. We ordered a few items, but the waitress insisted it would not be enough. We ended up having way too much food and had to take half of it home.

Rarely is fusion done right, but this place is spot on. Gorged myself at dinner, on the Okonomiyaki (latke) + a decadent ramen + wings. (I had help!) Not crowded, friendly, quick service. Definitely going back.

I expected the food to be good, but this was world-class. Each dish we got was delicious, and the cuisine was truly unique. The food was comforting and exotic at the same time. Reasonably priced too.

Highly recommend New Year’s Duck, Scallops, Grilled Chrysanthemum Greens & Kale. Youre fine skipping the Lox Bowl. By far the best feature of this place is the Hitachino Nest White Ale on tap

Sadly, no vegan dish is offered where you would expect it. The substitution is nice and the crew really helpful but it seems like a place that should have at least one option.....

Its expensive, but this is one of the few times a fusion restaurant is worth it. The matzo ball ramen, latke, and Jew egg are crazy delicious and as good as youd want them to be.

Very innovative menu and most of the food was delicious. Food was 5 stars, especially the duck wings and tuna. Was a bit on the pricey side given location, hence the 4 star review

Interesting place. Japanese and Jewish for sure, so its definitely mixing flavors to create comfort food. Its not boutique, it is unique, and its worth checking out.

Wow. If you want to experience food that takes you out of what you know from food, this is the place to go. Try their Mild Sesame Ramen bowl with pork.

Very good concept. I just wish they would have more options for brunch. There was none of theirs famous appetizers or the bread everyone talks about.

This place wants to bring the flavors of Jewish food, but theyre not kosher!! And the bread doesnt look or taste like challah bread.

Its a really fun idea with a pretty tasty menu. Start with the Challach soaked in Sake. The butter spread is perfect combination.
