Poor food and beer selections. I was visiting from New Brunswick so perhaps have different expectations for alehouses. The beer selection is much more limited than it is in New Brunswick. Both are college cities, and New Brunswick is much smaller in population and land area, so I was disappointed in Kilkennys more limited beer selection. There were bottles from mostly typical brands (Heineken, Stella Artois, Sam Adams, Budweiser), a few drafts, but little I was excited to try. And I couldnt find any Kilkenny! (But there was Guinness.) For food, I got a $10 vegetarian mac and cheese dish (not bad price) and added shrimp for $5. This would normally be acceptable, but it was $5 for 5 tiny shrimp. I could get more food for a comparable price at a typical Italian American/Mediterranean restaurant. And it wasnt that flavorful, despite being sprinkled with cajun spice (which I couldnt taste). I also had steak once and was disappointed by the out-of-the-can vegetables. Ive been here twice; fool me twice, shame on me. Im not going back.

This was our 3rd visit to the Kilkenny Alehouse. The food is great and Robert the owner is extremely hospitable and hands-on. I had the vegetarian chili and the almond and cranberry salad. My husband had the game sausages - duck, boar and venison. We had a reunion with friends we had not seen in many many years and Robert went above and beyond the call of duty. He takes great care of the patrons and pride in his establishment. There is street parking and the alehouse has a great community sense. Atmosphere is friendly and the beer selection wide and interesting.

I refuse to review any aspect of Kilkennys as they have the best wings Ive had in my life and have never felt the need to try something else. As a bar, the draught beer selection is pretty good, including Guinness on a nitrogen tap. Service is very friendly and checks up often. The wings here are incredible. They must be from either a turkey or mutant chickens. The breading is very good and they are not at all greasy. The atomic are ridiculous, covered in ghost peppers and oh so burny. We even go here monthly after work just to revel in the wings.

Kilkenny is a great spot in a not-so-great area. Its right on the edge of some bad parts of Newark, but its adjacent to Washington Park and the Rutgers Mini-Campus, so I have always felt alright around there. They have a good list of drinks, good prices, and the wings are very good. I expected mediocre wings from this place and was pleasantly surprised. They are the jumbo gigantic wings with a good crisp fried coating, and they can go about as hot as you can take it. The staff is also great to deal with and is always accommodating for us.

My favorite bar in the Academy area! For starters, the food here is absolutely amazing! It tastes great, the portions are large, theres a good variety. Absolutely no complaints. Staff is always friendly and knowledgeable about both liquor and the food menu. Plenty of alcoholic options. No complaints there either. Its a great place to go with a group of colleagues in between meetings or after work.

This is one of my frequent watering holes in Newark. They have a great collection of beer. This place offers comfortable Irish Pub atmosphere. They have an average selection of food. Prices are below average. This is a great place to hang out with your buddy.

What a great place to eat! We came to Newark to see Celtic Woman, and the food was a perfect fit. We had the shepards pie and a chicken portobello dish. With drinks it was less than $30 before tip. Come give this place a try and see if you do not agree.

Great selection of food. Everything is Super Fresh. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The place itself is clean. They have great lunch specials. How far side with some tables and a restaurant side too. Highly recommended

Place isnt bad. Staff okay. kind of young do you get some immature conversation. Will close before time. Its 10:18 and they are already trying to close when they supposed to close at 12. But okay. know wonder the bar is dead.

Great food and great beer selection for downtown Newark. Its within walking distance from the colleges, the Newark museum, The PAC, and (its a bit of a hike or like a 5min Uber) to the Rock or Penn. Love this place.

Regulars bar by day. College scene by night. The kitchen closes at 9pm most days but the food is always good. If you are looking for somewhere everybody will know your name, this is the place.

Looking for post Red Bull game dinner. Their web site says kitchen open until midnight Thursday to Saturday. Went in at ten to 11 last night (Friday) and was told the kitchen was closed.

Want an Irish pub with a reasonable price ? Seek no more! Best bloody mary - from scratch. Tacos, burgers, wings, dogfish head 90 min, shepherds pie.

Great food makes me love stopping in for lunch, its both quick, satisfying and if youre lucky you can catch some entertaining conversation at the bar.

Being in Newark there are some shady characters that go here. But the drinks are good and fairly priced. Bartenders are also really awesome people

Love Kilkenny. Great times with great friends and love the wings. Great place to watch Sports and never too crowded.

Service is ok, the food and atmosphere are appropriately depressing given the prime location in the heart of Newark.

Best food and drinks. Not your typical bar food. Quality and flair. Recommend anything...even the fish and chips!

Atmosphere is nice for the 25-30+ years old crowd. Good bar food, nicely sized television to watch the games.
