Night was going great. Night out with family and friends. Now for my bone picking... Unfortunately for us somehow some girl convinced a bouncer (dont think it took much convincing if you catch my drift) that one of the guys from our group was making them uncomfortable. BOOM Kickked out! Just like that, no warning, no questions asked. We were all standing around, he went up to these girls struck up a conversation, they were all weird and stand offish and so he walked away, we were only a foot away from them the entire time (i think they honestly just wanted to clear some space on the floor). That is the complete story, it lasted all of about 1 minute. We were all confused when 10 minutes or whatever later the bouncer was kicking out one of our crew. It is odd to me that a first encounter like that can actually get you kicked out. Sheesh I guess you should just keep your mouth shut in that place...cant risk someone feeling uncomfortable for a second, meanwhile there are real creapos closing the night up at that place. Wont be going back, dont like how it was handled. They think whats the big deal even if this kid did or didnt do it its better if we tell him to leave, when our entire party was broken up, about a half an hour before we were all ready to leave together, plus it was raining and freezing cold. Some of us were repeat customers. Will not be going back. I appreciate the :if a woman feels threatened rally around her" rule you guys put forward...but as a girl myself you should know that some like to play games..and what happened last night was exactly that. You will eventually have a lot of nice really pissed off men that wont come back because of an incident like this..stories should have been checked, it shouldve been clear to the bouncer something odd was going on..it was to everyone else...guess why thats why theyre just bouncers.

FREE PIZZA with EVERY DRINK! If thats not enough to grab your attention, I dont know what is. Pizza line can be long when the place gets packed, but standing in a line is much easier with a beer and some friends. It may appear from the outside only to be another over-the-top Irish-themed bar, but its not. Good beer selection. Good staff of bartenders and bouncers. Outdoor area is popping during the summertime and occasionally during the winter (with help from heated tents). Two ski-ball machines in the small downstairs area. Decorations are always changing. Thought-provoking quotes and factoids are painted legibly all over the place including in the bathrooms. Music is largely 90s and 2000s pop punk, alternative rock, and "throwbacks". They songs for millennials who dont like EDM at bars and would prefer songs that are fun to belt out with your friends and/or provide feelings of nostalgia. Several bars and somewhat separate areas within Johnny Macs will keep you from getting bored of the same area all night. If The Whiskey Brooklyn in Brooklyn, NY or The Olive Branch in New Brunswick, NJ is your scene, then Johnny Macs is your Jersey Shore bar.

My husband and I just experienced the rudest unprofessional bartender...watch out for this guy on Wednesday nights...this was on August 16th. We stepped away from our drinks briefly and when we returned my husbands drink was gone. When he mentioned it to the bartender the bartender said that anyone couldve taken it and it wasnt him....huh?! A shouting match ensued. Couldnt he just have apologized and said Im sorry sir Id be happy to replace it isnt that what a courteous professional bartender would do? Would it have killed him to be civilized? This guy was just the opposite. We will never set foot in this shabby rude place a again steer clear of it by all means its a horrible place.

I have long enjoyed Johnny Macs and have been a local patron here since it opened. The beer selection is decent and priced fair, along with the added bonus of free pizza. Last night was the first time in my life that I asked for tap water with my beer and was told no, we only have bottled. And trust me I have been to my share of bars in the NJ/NYC area. I find it petty and unbecoming of this bars quirky/dive vibes. So what if I want to hydrate along side each brew? I believe it was 3 dollars, so add that to the cost of each beer. I can see if I just showed up to order water, but come on. Im not sure where this recent policy came from.

Last night I was assaulted by the bouncers at Johnny Macs. I was asked to leave because I asked the bartender a simple question. As I was leaving the bouncer felt it was necessary to put his hands on me and push me out even though i was complying and exiting. My husband asked him not to touch me and the bouncer immediately went for his throat and choked him! Very aggressive and rude to patrons for no reason. Next day I called to speak with the manager about the incident. She was also rude and could careless that I was injured by her staff! AVOID THIS SPOT UNLESS YOU WANT TO GET TREATED LIKE TRASH.

Solid bar. One of my favorites in Asbury Park. The bar definitely had personally for days with funky decor and quotes all over the place. They also have a heated outdoor space with games and skeeball in the basement! Drinks are not too expensive but they do change for bottled water. They make up for it because you get a ticket for a free personal pizza with each drink. You need to wait for the pizza on a line and it gets long on the weekends but its a fun way of making friends. 8

I was very excited to go to Johnny Macs for my birthday. However the bouncers there are rude, sexist and down right awful. I asked where my friends were and he then looked at my breasts and when I called him out on it he said no- I said liar. He then pushed me out into the rain and threatened to call the cops on me. This was in the middle of the afternoon. It seems that they have a problem with the bouncers based on the other recent reviews.

Love this bar!! Anytime I come to Asbury, we have to stop in to grab a drink. The atmosphere is awesome and with every drink you get, you also get a ticket for a free personal Pizza! One other thing I like about this place is the little are a downstairs with skeet ball. They also have amazing quotes and random artifacts everywhere which helps with the awesome atmosphere.
