Edison has a reputation as a bastion of great Indian food. And I dont have an iota of doubt about it. Our group is a batch of 10 people who are connoisseurs and we have been dining in most of Edisons restaurants for almost an year now, and I must admit GONGURA is quite an experience. If you are fan of South Indian cuisine try it and you wont regret. This restaurant is located in a rather unassuming converted warehouse kind of a building that’s quite easy to miss. But you must enter inside to have your taste buds filled with joy. The food tastes like the food that is served in traditional Andhra functions. The spicy curries, the pickles makes you feel like you are eating your mom made food. The best part of all is Tomato Pappu (Dal) out of all. Though the ambiance could be a little better, you can definitely try it out for its authenticity.

This is my first review ever.... Hope you understand my frustration.. Disgusting food.....!!!!!! I just bought food from this place. I wonder who the hell gave good rating for this restaurant. My order was chettinad chicken pepper fry and shrimp fry along with rotis. (They forgot to give rotis. I really thank god for that. I never had to see those rotis n wonder what it is!!) Both chicken n shrimp doesnot look like fried. pepper is not even sprayed by mistake on the chicken pepper fry... its orange in colour with no taste.... shrimp is like just taken out of boiling water. Dont go by the menu and price plssss..... Try your luck elsewhere.. There are very good restaurants in new jersey especially in edison area. God bless..!!!!!

Went with friends for a late afternoon Sunday lunch and their high rating became abundantly clear. Dishes had a rustic home-cooked taste and the buffet spread was very inviting: delicious veg. and chicken biryanis, dosa with sambhar, dal and rasam, nice spread of condiments and a traditional mor in a clay pot (like chaach)... and thats just what i tried. While the presentation left me slightly wanting, the price balanced the picture completely. I and three others had 6 masala chais and non. veg. buffet options and walked away with a $55 bill - tip inclusive. Great call, will return!

Surely dont hv ny other option 2 rate less than this as i dont understand y pple hv gvn positive reviews as i was shocked to c d place when i visited it. Still cudnt understand weather it ws really a restaurant or whattttt. At d terms of food, it ws more than pathetic, nvr evr ate such vulnerable south food in my life. What more 2 say, there ws no service, had to grab d food directly frm the kithchen..on the other terms, it ws a self service directly frm kitchen. Abvall, their ws just 1 lady to take guard everything who ws not able 2 understand d common language-->ENGLISH.

Recently they had started serving breakfast items. I think thats the best decision they had made. All the menu items are delicious, especially the soft idlis are the best. It comes with a nice sambar and freshly made coconut chutney and spicy but mouth watering tomato chutney. I am a huge fan of soft and spongy idli. I was disappointed with saravana bhavan idli sambar. Gongura idlis are the best I have tasted in nj. The price is also reasonable.

The place was empty when we got there and I now understand why. The food selection wasnt appealing but what made us want to leave was the service. The owner was rude and kept the place feeling grimey. The tables felt sticky and the water jugs looked dirty. All of this made my group want to leave before ordering. I cannot attest to the quality of the food.

The delivery person who delivered the order demanded a tip of $25 and used abusive language when denied to give so. It was very insulting in front of the crowd. Also, wrong order was delivered. I had called the restaurant and they said "that is how it is here". I couldnt understand what sort of a response is that. I am terribly disappointed.

Was so excited after reading d reviews. It was kind of disappointing. Very few options where there. If u have likliness for rice sambar and rasam sort of stuff then u can opt for it. Its okay in that sort. For the money u pay it is definitely a big NO. Frozen roti and smashed rice.. Thats nots a real option for the bucks we pay there

We wanted a South Indian restaurant that serves Dosa and found this to be the only one open after 3 PM. So we stopped by on the way from NY. We had wonderful home style lunch and Dosas for the kids with fresh chutney. We packed food for the night as well. It was at a very affordable price. We all loved it!

It was once my favorite restaurant as it serves home made kinda food. I recently visited and had a horrible experience. Now it is one of the worst places anyone can go for food. They served stale food and I could smell it... I left the place hungry by paying 13$. You might even end up in a hospital.

Agree with the review below with this place being a dump. There was no organization and extremely limited food options. The person at the checkout was not forthcoming and extremely short when replying to questions. No attention was given to diners. On a Saturday no less, very disappointing

Delicious food with finger licking homemade taste. You never feel or miss home food if you are regular to this place. The only suggestion to the management is to improve the interior decor which will help them be top contender among other restaurants serving south indian food.

One of the worst restaurants I have ever been too. There is only one person refilling dishes, billing and cleaning the place. Worst thing is I saw the person killing bugs and handling food with the same hand without even washing. Parking is limited and not easy to get a slot.

The place is a dump. Few cheap pieces of furniture no air conditioning or ventilation. Stuffy and no service at all. Its truly a mom and pop shop where there arent even any waiters / attendants / servers. Food is 7/10 but on the spicer side. But not worth the effort. Avoid.

Ambience of street food in India is infinite times better than this restaurant. The place looks really dirty. We got into the restaurant and ran away immediately.Kindly improve ur ambience .That is the first thing needed. This made us feel that kitchen would look worser.

Wait time is excruciating. Chef, sous chef, waiter, server... All are the same person. Hence the wait time. If you are ok with that, the food is very good. Its not restaurant style food, its more homely. 4*s for the food. If the food wasnt good Id give just 2*s.

This place is awful. Theres only one lady who cooks serves and takes orders. Ambience is the worst. There are several words I can drum up to describe the treatment we received at Gongura, but let me limit it to one : disaster!!!! I regret going to this place.

Very authentic Indian restaurant in my opinion especially in this area. Dont expect Luxury dining, the place is very basic. But thats ok! Its not a bad thing, they keep it very traditional and the food reflects the quality of this restaurant.

This Place is hole in the wall. Their prices are rediculous and not reasonable. I ordered Shrimp fry....They Gave me a small container with gravy and 5 tiny shrimps no rice included. Then tried to charge me $12.00. I demanded a refund
