If you are looking to hold an event in the Akbar Restaurant, you will be disappointed. I just threw an event there this weekend and was very dissatisfied with the service, and the overall treatment of the owner and management. First, with regards to your contract, make sure to delineate exactly what you will be promised because on the day of the event, we were "told" we could have the terrace for ourselves. However, on the day of the event, we found out that two events where held outside. Second, they forced us to use their stained chair covers and were "told" we could pay whatever we wanted for them, come to find out that they imposed a charge onto the final payment for the chair covers. Typically, we would argue that point, however, we were exhausted from the event, and as such let that payment slide. Also, with regards to tipping, their "service charge" is not a gratuity, but a verbal payment for service to "all of the boys and the chefs". The owner verbally asked us for a tip for all of the boys on top of the service charge which we were told was the "gratuity". Now, as a matter of good etiquette, I normally tip the Captain who handles the event if I feel the service was on par. I dont like being asked nor told that my tip is not enough if I felt the service was not on par with what I expected. But, on the day of a special event, I try not to create as much anger and drama as I can. So, please beware and hopefully you will be more steadfast with your beliefs on tipping and contract law than I was. The reason why I felt the service was not on par was because: 1. The air conditioning was not adequate to cool the room for 85 degree weather in the spring. The room was too hot inside until we complained several times before the temperature was adjusted somewhat. 2. We had the event until 330pm, but the staff started to take off linens and chair covers at 230pm. 3. We had to ask several times (at least 4) before we could get table reserved signs for 3 tables. The wait staff worked hard, therefore these service comments are directed to the owner and bartender "Das" (who was also in charge of our event). The food was ok at best, but given that it was a buffet and not sit down, the overall quality was satisfactory (hey at least I didnt end up in the bathroom that night). In conclusion, you may want to try to hold your event in a different venue and save yourself the headache. Especially when you pay the full amount of what is asked by the ownership without haggling the price down. This time, the old adage of "you pay for what you get" did not hold.

Guys if you want to save a headache stay away from this place Ms Malhotra is a thief, a liar, and a beggar. Here is my experience I booked two events with her. Kids are half the price as to Adults but she charged me all for adults for both events and refused to charge the half price for kids. The rate we negotiated was everything inclusive (gratuity, tax, service charges) but the day of the event she started begging I should pay the staff tip. The decoration we talked about she did not provided half of it and gave me the excuse that what I chose was not looking good so she changed the decoration on her own (of course the ugliest and the cheapest stuff she could use she used) On my second event she included the valet parking what a joke the parking is free in front of the hotel and if you want valet the line of cars went around the corner and my guests had to walk in cold with kids to the main lobby because she had only two lazy suckers parking the cars for us how could not move quick enough. And then she wanted me to pay for it what a joke. On our first event when I refused to pay tip because it’s included in the price her high school waiter staff Neil and his brother ripped my dhool that I had borrow from a friend of mine and she wanted me to deal with then not with her. The food was a joke I went with them thinking they’ve been in business for long time and will be professionals but a total waste of money I will not suggest this place to any one. Unfortunately I did not do a Google on Akbar if I had read some of the reviews Ms Malhotra received I would have opted out. Strong caution to all of the folks, who just want to have a straight dealing and a headache free party this place is not for you. After the first party when I did do a Google on Akbar and mentioned her that her name is mentioned on Google she could not answer me and I was so stressed for my second event a day later. Good luck to you all.

We had our daughters Bday party there and the owner, Mrs. malhotra was the worst lady ever... initially when she wanted us to take the place she called us like everyday and last when we decided and finalized the place her attitude was way different.. she troubled us a lot.. from beginning till end.. even while closing the deal she literally fought with us, but we could not do anything as all weekends at other places were booked, so we had to go with her only... in the entire event she did now switch on the AC. we had called the Dj and people were dancing and sweating, but no one even for once switched on the AC, and when u ask them , they had to say its on, but its soo hot outside that u cant feel the AC..the food was cold and naans were soo hard as rock, as i could not eat anything in the entire party, after the party i just took my plate of food.. people were gone by that time and we were wrapping up things, so this heartless lady comes in, sees me eating and says, "Are you going to eat the food for the entire month over here or what" I was soo stunned with this comment that i left the plate and just wanted to leave the place, by family felt sooo bad.. people dont mind paying more if they get what they pay for, but this lady just wants us to pay for nothing.. she just will roam around the whole place and make the environment unpleasant, her speech is worst and such people can never be in public relations.... that was our last party there...after that we have had 3 big parties and we dint even consider Akbar. Dont waste ur money specially when it gets paid off with such an attitude & service

We did a party here and were over charged for many things and was given false promises. That was a special moment for us & were doing a party and the food should be prepared with utmost care accommodating our tastes and should please all our guests; But the food here in the party is so so. These are just a few examples. The only positive thing I can say is that Das the manager and Gita are both very dedicated to there job and will try to help you out as much as they can. While on the other hand the woman that owns the place Mrs. Meenakshi Malhotra does the exact opposite. Till the moment you decide on renting the banquet facility she takes care of all your needs and talks so sweet regarding the arrangements but once you sign on the dotted line her attitude is totally different. This is so strange that they charged me for valet parking for all the guests irrespective of the number of vehicles, and the weird thing is most of the cars were parked by our own guests as there was no valet member. They charged me 18% gratuity and gave me a itemized figure of how much it would cost in total; but at the end of the day she over charged and also fought with us to tip more for the waiters. Please make sure you read the contract fully and include all your requests in writing. Also, try not to pay in full before the event because if things dont go as planned, you will not get a refund.
